th_ryu.gif In Street Fighter, Ryu is one of the participants of the World Warrior tournament. After defeating all challengers, his skills earn him the right to fight its host, Sagat. Despite nearly losing against the "Emperor of Muay Thai," Ryu secures a difficult victory, and is crowned champion.

Later games elaborate on the final battle between Ryu and Sagat. In this version of the battle, Sagat nearly beats Ryu into unconsciousness. Ryu, however, having such a strong desire to win, allows himself to be engulfed by the Satsui no Hadou and he strikes Sagat with a nearly-fatal Metsu Shoryuken that not only knocks Sagat unconscious but also marks his chest with a great scar. After regaining consciousness and discovering what had happened, Sagat swears vengeance on Ryu.

ken2.gif Ken is described as a former sparring partner, rival and best friend of the main character, Ryu, who trained under the same master (a character whose identity would later be fleshed out as Gouken).
Ken's super moves consist of the Shôryû-reppa ("Rising Dragon Destroyer"), in which Ken does two or three Shôryûken; the Shinryûken ("Divine Dragon Fist"), a spinning vertical Shoryuken that lacks range, but does greater damage and more hits, especially if the kick buttons are pressed rapidly; and the most recent addition to his move-list since Street Fighter III — the Shippû Jinrai Kyaku ("Hurricane Thunderclap Leg"), which Ken does a flurry of kicks before ending with a vertical Tatsumaki-Senpû-Kyaku (or a diagonally-vertical Tatsumaki-Senpû-Kyaku in Alpha Anthology's port of Alpha 3).

sagat-stance.gif Sagat won the title of Emperor/God of Muay Thai from Nuah Kahn as a teenager, and became a national hero in Thailand. He defended his title from a fighter named Go Hibiki, in a match that cost Sagat the use of his right eye, and cost Go his life. Go's son, Dan, swore revenge on Sagat.
Sagat trained Adon, and held the first World Warrior tournament to prove that he was not only the strongest Muay Thai kickboxer, but the strongest fighter in the world. Only one fighter managed to reach Sagat: a young martial artist named Ryu. Initially, Sagat was able to pin Ryu, and was sure that he was the winner of the match. However, Ryu became desperate to win the fight and was consumed by the Satsui no Hadou and executed the Metsu Shoryuken, grievously wounding Sagat and leaving a massive scar across his chest. Because of this event, Sagat has sworn revenge on Ryu.

akuma-shin-cvs2-stance.gif Shin Akuma, was created as a secret character and boss on street fighter turbo 2.The two versions operate very similarly, but Shin Akuma is faster, deals more damage and can throw two Zankū Hadoken at once. Also, his Shun Goku Satsu is much faster (making it harder to evade), and in some instances, inflicts more damage (e.g. Capcom vs. SNK 2). In some instances, Shin Akuma also has more life-threatening specials as well (e.g. Misogi). Shin Akuma's appearance is very similar to Akuma's except he exhibits white hair and a slightly darker shade of skin. In the Street Fighter Alpha series, Shin Akuma had a purple-blue gi instead of a black one, but retains the red hair.

Guile-hairstylin.gif When Guile was a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, he befriended his superior officer, Charlie and asked Charlie to teach him in his unique form of fighting, which Charlie agreed to do. Guile learned the style, but his hot temper caused him to be not as proficient in the moves as Charlie was (shown in how Charlie can shoot Sonic Booms with just one hand while Guile needs both, also Charlie's Somersault kick hits twice vs Guile's once).
Guile's two primary special moves are the "Sonic Boom", a projectile-based attack, and the "Somersault Kick" (also known as the "Flash Kick"), an anti-air attack.
Unlike every other character since Street Fighter II, Guile has never been given a new special move and has been known to have more Super Combos than special moves. His original Super Combo, the "Somersault Strike" is basically his Somersault Kick with two more kicks added in.
The "Sonic Hurricane" is not a projectile but if it connects, it traps the opponents in and does multiple hits. In the Capcom vs. SNK series he gained another Super Move called "Total Wipeout" which allows him to do consecutive punches that end with a final Backhand punch that knocks the opponent away.

bison2.gif A would-be world dictator, M. Bison's ambition is to control the world's governments.M. Bison wields Psycho Power, an evil energy which manifests as blue or purple flames and electricity.Bison is responsible for the murder of Chun-Li's father, an Interpol agent who was investigating Shadaloo.M. Bison's attire consists of a red military uniform with metal shoulder plates, wrist bands, and shin guards. On his cap is the skull insignia of Shadaloo. Before a match, Bison is seen sporting a grey cloak around his uniform, which he tosses aside once the fight begins. Bison's signature move is the Psycho Crusher, which sends him spiraling through the air while wreathed in fiery energy. His other famous move is the Double Knee Press (also known as the Scissor Kick), a forward flip which sends him barreling toward his opponent.Bison also demonstrates greater mastery over his Psycho Power, able to teleport across the screen and hover in the air.

th_Dan_Stomp.gif Dan is consistently portrayed as an arrogant, overconfident, yet utterly weak character in many of the games he is featured in. He is widely considered to be the comic relief of the series because of his over-the-top poses and battle cries.
Dan's father, Go Hibiki, was a rival of Sagat. Go gouged out Sagat's eye and Sagat beat him to death in retaliation. Because of this, Dan sought revenge on Sagat, training to become a fighter, but was expelled from Gouken's dojo when his motivations were learned. Dan thus developed his own style of Ansatsuken merged with Muay Thai elements and called Saikyo-ryuu, "The Strongest Style," despite the complete weakness of his techniques.Dan believed he had achieved his revenge by defeating Sagat (who had actually thrown the fight), and his motivation switched to promoting and expanding his Saikyo-ryuu school, even to the point of offering exercise videos and correspondence courses. He has seemingly had some limited success promoting Saikyo-style.Despite being the lowest tier amongst the main characters, Dan is still an above-average martial artist when compared to typical fighters. In the first volume of the manga Sakura Ganbaru!, Dan enters a street fighting competition and is shown doing rather well, only losing to Ken, who later went on to win the entire competition.Instead of using both hands to unleash his Gadouken (as Ryu, Ken, and even Sakura do for the Hadouken), he propels it with one hand.Dan has a similar outfit to Ryu and Ken, wearing a traditional Karategi. Dan also wears a black undershirt like Ryo. His head and face closely resembles Robert from Art of Fighting, while his outfit is bright pink, reminiscent of Ryo's orange outfit in Art of Fighting.
Though his fighting stance is similar to Ken and Ryu's, it is more "loose" and animated. Many of his mannerisms directly mirror those of Yuri Sakazaki

th_kim99stance.gif Kim is a master of taekwondo, and also considers himself a fighter of justice. Since Kim was young and during his taekwondo training sessions, he was always reminded to fight for justice, and use the martial art as a way to accomplish this.Kim is the reigning Tae Kwon Do champion of the world. Kim has been able to use this in his favor and fight against the best fighters on the planet. He first traveled to fight Krauser, who was looking for some decent challenges. On the way, he encountered the "Lone Wolf" himself, Terry Bogard. They soon became very good friends, and ever since, Kim always agrees to help Terry in all that he can.One of Kim's defining characteristics is his strong, inherent sense of justice. It is to the point where he has the innate ability to tell whether or not someone is evil or holds dark intentions just by looking at that person. As such, whenever Kim fights against an evil character (e.g. Rugal Bernstein, Geese Howard, etc.) or someone somehow influenced by Orochi or any other sinister power (e.g. Iori Yagami, etc.)

darksideryu.gif Evil Ryu known in Japan as Satsui no Hadou ni Mezameta Ryū (殺意の波動に目覚めたリュウ, Satsui no Hadou ni Mezameta Ryū? lit. "The surge of murderous intent awakened in Ryu").Evil Ryu has more powerful attacks than the original, strikes faster and possesses some of the attacks of Akuma (such as the Shun Goku Satsu).Like Akuma, Evil Ryu has a signature symbol that appears when he performs the Shun Goku Satsu. Evil Ryu has had two different symbols:"Murder" (殺),(滅) for "Destruction."According to the Street Fighter Alpha series, Sagat, the defending champion, crushed Ryu, and then extended his hand to help Ryu up after thinking that he had won. Ryu was so consumed with the desire to win that he gave into the Satsui no Hadou ("Evil Intent" in the American version) and executed a Metsu Shoryuken, scarring Sagat's chest and his pride.

user posted image Violent Ken is an alternate version of Ken.He was inspired by the Brainwashed Ken depicted in which M. Bison induced a considerable amount of Psycho Power to transform Ken into a killing machine. Though Brainwashed Ken has little to do with the Satsui no Hadou, Ken, while fighting against this form in game, wonders if, deep down, he desires this. However, Violent Ken also used purple flames instead of regular ones in his Shoryuken, which is a feature of Akuma's Hadokens and Shoryukens.

zangief_anime1-FromZANGIEF.gif As the greatest professional wrestler in the Soviet Union, Zangief was contacted by a man referred to as Erai Hito (Great Man) to represent his country in the second World Warrior tournament.Zangief agreed and began training in the extreme climates of Siberia. He built his strength by wrestling polar bears, gaining many fearsome scars in the process, concocting his trademark Spinning Piledriver after being picked up by a cyclone while performing a piledriver on a bear. With the assistance of his government, Zangief emerged from his training as "The Red Cyclone", determined to demonstrate Russia's magnificent power to all of the world.Zangief is a close range character as he is a wrestling type. Many of his moves are more complicated to pull off due to the 360 motions input required to perform the moves, making him a character for advanced players. Zangief is one of the slowest of all characters in the Street Fighter games and presents a large target, yet is widely considered top-tier as his evasive techniques (Spinning Lariat and Banishing Flat) can control large amounts of space whilst negating the ability of other characters to do so with their projectile moves, and his Spinning Piledriver can grab opponents out of most ground-based moves.

sf-balrog.gif Balrog is depicted as an African American boxer wearing blue trunks with white trim and a torn white shirt under a blue tank top. He wears red boxing gloves and boxing shoes. His hairstyle consists of short hair cut in an odd pointing style in the front, similar to Mike Tyson's haircuts from the time Street Fighter II was made.Balrog was once a great boxing champion and prize fighter. He was banned from boxing for permanently injuring his opponents and killing one (as well as his illegal maneuvers, particularly his headbutt), so he joined the Shadaloo criminal organization, and worked his way up from the bottom, eventually becoming Bison's enforcer. While running errands for M. Bison,he killed Dhalsim's elephant with a single Gigaton Punch. In one mission, Balrog was sent to terminate Birdie. Although he did not know why, Balrog went anyway. Birdie told him about the Psycho Drive, and Balrog agreed to help him find it, thinking he could make money from it. When the Psycho Drive exploded, Balrog realized that he had not been paid recently. When M. Bison was killed at the hands of Akuma, ownership of Shadaloo was transferred to the former prize fighter. Unfortunately, he ended up running the entire organization into the ground in no time. After the fall of Shadaloo, Balrog became nothing more than a bum on the streets.Balrog's special moves consist mainly of rushing punch attacks.

user posted image Generally a pacifist, Dhalsim fights to raise money for his village, but realizes that it contradicts his pacifist beliefs. The only significant part he played in the overall story of the series was to make Cammy White self-aware.

Dhalsim retired from fighting after the second World Warrior tournament, and continued to roam the world helping those in need.
Dhalsim is often depicted as having pupil-less eyes. His build is that of a normal man who exercises and weight trains regularly except for his abdomen and waist which appear much out of proportion and emaciated. He wears torn saffron shorts as his only clothing attire as well as saffron wristbands and anklebands. He has three colored stripes adorning his head, he wears a turban that he removes before battle. The skulls he wears around his neck are those of village children who died during a plague.
