Evelien, carrying a small basket, made her way to the town bakery. Nothing really big was planned for the bakery, it was just a relaxing place to be. Perhaps she would buy some pastries for her friends.

Things had been going rather well recently. New students had been coming in almost two by two, and at the same time as being overjoyed it was rather stressful. Plus, she had been getting reports that outside the town there was a completely new environment...

Laurence, having felt both peckish and desiring a reward for keeping up with all the new things going on about town, decided that he needed something warm and fluffy. Which probably didn't mean a cat. Instead he'd found a rather tasty spinach pastry in the bakery and sat down in the corner to munch on it slowly.

As the door swung, giving a creak and the ding of the bell that all old stores had above the door, Laurence's head swerved to see Evelein come in. Wrapping his pastry up with its wrapper, we went over to her. "Hello, it's good to see you. How have you been handling? Seems you're getting students by the bucket load nowadays."

Evelien first smiled fondly at her close friend and former teacher, then pulled an eyelid back for a moment in a display of stress. "Yes, indeed. Many students, and quite a few of them don't speak Dutch at all. Honestly, I was mouthed-off the other day by some ruw kind for speaking Dutch! Ridiculous. Some monolingual Irish dwaas student demands and complains that speaking Dutch is unfair to her and others, yet she's here, in a Nederlands town, where most people don't even speak English. Katen was as appalled as I was, if not more."

Lieven was loitering near the back of the bakery, deeply breathing in the fumes from the nearby pies. He looked around the shop for a moment, contently lightheaded, and noticed for the first time that Evelien and Laurence were in the bakery. He smiled, sniffed the pies a little more, then slowly began to approach them, grinning widely.
“Heyy guys! How’s it going? Loving those pies, I am…”

Evelien looked up at the giddy companion of hers suspiciously. He seemed a bit too overly happy. And where the heck had he just come from?

"Bent in orde u, Lieven? U schijnt een gelukkig beetje ook……" She greeted him cautiously, automatically in Dutch.

“Wat? Ik ben groot! Dank voor het vragen!” Lieven replied with a friendly smile, also in Dutch.
“But really, those pies are something….” He looked back fondly at the steaming pies in the back of the bakery, then turned to Laurence. “You wouldn’t happen to have some corn chips with you, would you?”

"Corn Chips, Corn chips?" Laurence dug about in his back pocket. "Sorry I don't have any Lieven. Tell you what, I'll give you some tomorrow, alright?"

"As for the children, some of them need help speaking in dutch, but they're here, they might as well learn. It's not as if anyone but people in this little town speak English. Just their luck I suppose." He probably wouldn't be very kind to those students should they ever take his class. If they wanted to talk to him, he wanted to see them making an effort, even if the started talking in broken Dutch.

Lieven frowned, then nodded in apprehension at Laurence’s reasoning.
He raised his eyebrows and smirked a bit at the talk of ‘children’, most likely students, that didn’t know—or refused to speak—Dutch. “Hmm, a language problem? So, do they not know Dutch, or are they just against it? If they just don’t want to, I guess that’s fine with me… I mean, the little people have to be free to express themselves, right?”
But of course Lieven would say that, having been a bit of a rebel as a child, a victim of a controlling parent. He still was a bit the same way…

"They may have the right to express themselves, but that's pretty hard to do if you can't speak a language everyone will understand. Even you know there's a difference between expression and complete disrespect." said Laurence. "There's not much a use for whatever language they speak if no-one knows what they're saying."

He wrapped a corner of his pastry and took a bite of it. Soon enough, he reasoned, they would all have to learn another language anyway, whatever was out there probably didn't speak dutch.

Evelien listened for a minute to the reasoning, then nodded her head. "True. I agree with Laurence. Lieven, the line between the freedom of expression and disrespect is quite thin. Let me tell you, some of these kids have crossed that line -- Already! Mijn gosh, I quote: 'So unless you're planning on confusing everyone or wanting to turn us all into a cult where we have to conform to your every whim, you can't expect us all to understand you.' Now, she has a point, but that is going a bit too far. We have had some new foreign students, but still the majority of the school is Dutch-speaking. Plus, at least 55% of the townspeople still speak only Dutch."

Katen was on her way to the newspaper joint to visit her younger, but now taller, brother. As she was passing by the bakery, the smell of pastries made her stop. Following her stomach’s orders to go in she turned and opened the door. Closing her eyes so that the smell was stronger, she stood in the doorway enjoying the sweet odor. Not holding the door open it slammed shut into her back causing her to stumble forward. “Eeep! Stom, kwaad, beteken, grote deur! Het zou binnen moeten branden-” she stopped short when she noticed that the other Seyyehn and two of the Three were there.

“Eh, hallo. Wh-welke het gaan?” Katen asked as she regained her balance. She completely ignored the fact that she made a fool of herself and stood proudly.

[First: Stupid, evil, mean, big door! It should burn in-

Second: Eh, hello. Wh-what’s going on?]

Evelien, her attention now set on Katen and her ridiculous act, gave a wide smile to her friend. "Oh, Katen! Blij om u te zien! Kom, bespreken wij het probleem van taal onder de studenten." She radiantly beckoned the three to follow her over to a table, where she took a seat. "En dat herinnert me, jongens eraan. Wij hebben een ander taalprobleem. Katen weigert hier om het Engels te spreken, aangezien u zou moeten het weten." She spoke in clear Dutch, because she knew that Katen always hated it when she spoke in English; especially when everyone she was speaking to knew Dutch.

Lieven frowned again, unhappy that his reasoning was being stomped all over. He shrugged it off, in too good a mood to linger on it, and followed them to the table. He sat down, lounging and putting one arm over the back with his legs spread wide apart.
“Oh ik weet dat maar al te goed. Het is vrij verergerend, vooral wanneer het Engels in stijl is,” he said, annoyed, in Dutch to not make Katen pitch a fit.

Katen, ignoring his tone, she took a seat opposite of Lieven. Her legs crossed and her arms placed gently on the table. “Het Engels is een stomme taal. En zo is het land het uit kwam. Ik zie niet hoe het in ‘stijl’,” she remarked bitterly. Pausing for a minute she thought better. “Ik let niet op als u de kerelsbespreking binnen, ik zegt het durft, Engels. Weet enkel dat ik niet zal zijn,” she added as nicely as possible.

[First: English is a stupid language. And so is the country it came from. I don't see how it is in 'style'.

Second: I don't mind if you guys talk in, dare I say it, English. Just know that I wont be.]

Madho, completely oblivious to the conversation commencing beneath him, snorted loudly and rolled sideways. Clumsy as he was, he heavily fell off the low roof of the bakery shoppe. (((I hope you don't mind me saying Shoppe, I find it more suitable for myself...))) With a loud yelp, he thudded onto the gravel below. Furiously, he shook his head, expelling the sand that had settled onto him after his fall. He helped himself up, grumbling about the roof's hardness and how it had caused him to fall, until he noticed a quad of people sitting before him. He smiled guitily as he realized who they were.

"Ehh, hey guys!" He started...
