Skye stared around herself in distaste. She had never understood the people who frequented this building. Not them, and certainly not their obsessions. What was so good about books anyway? In her opinion, why bother sitting down to read the book when you could get it over and done with in a couple of hours by watching the movie! And the books that weren’t made into movies? Obviously not that good if not a single director had jumped on it to be made into a movie.
So why was she wandering around a library? Now that was a good question. The thing was, the library seemed to be the only place where she could get some privacy. Her manager had decided that having the phone ringing off the hook was a good way of making Skye decide on her next role. And when she had tried to get away from that headache, all she had found was the snapping of cameras in her face.
But not a single soul had noticed her slip quietly into the library at the last minute before the paparazzi had managed to catch up to her. And no one who knew anything about her would even consider that she would be going into the library for any reason. She had never been known to pick up a book in her life. And that was a well known fact. So, here she was, resigned to the fact that the only privacy to be had in this entire city was right here in this oppressively quiet room.
She could practically feel the tension as she walked down the aisle between two rows of tables. Nearly every table was occupied with only one person. Every person seemed to have at least ten books open in front of them, reading, then frantically writing what they had learned.
The pressure was practically unbearable, and Skye wasn’t even the one doing the studying! She couldn’t even imagine what they were going through, how stressed out they must be to get their assignments done on time. A shiver ran down her back at the thought. This was exactly why she had taken up acting and had never gone to college. In her opinion it was much easier breaking into the practically impenetrable world of acting than trying to stuff all of those useless facts into her head.
With a sigh she sat down at one of the few open tables and opened up the script in front of her. She had already agreed to the earlier one that had been sent to her, but apparently they were having trouble finding financial backers. So until the finances came through, Skye’s manager was insisting she chose another role to fill her time. Determination giving her energy, she started in on the first script, hoping that it was something that wasn’t going to make her pound her head on the table.

Skye felt a sigh build in her throat as spoken words interrupted her attempt to read what was turning out to be a mind-numbingly boring script that she would most likely never agree to be in. But, having promised her manager that she would read through them, she was determined not to give up. No matter how much it was making her wish she was banging her head against the table rather than reading the thing.
Her eyes moved up and over the two people standing in front of her. From the look in their eyes, she had been recognized. And to think she had thought that everyone in a library would be too busy studying to notice that a famous person was now sitting amongst them. At least she had managed to make it halfway through the first script before this interruption had occurred. Most days she barely made it two lines before someone found her.
Still, she was sorely tempted to simply wave them off. Perhaps utter a rude sentence that would forever keep them from disturbing her again. Unfortunately, if she allowed that, then the rumors would start again that she was a spoiled rich actress who thought she was better than everyone. Which was pretty much true, but her manager had practically had a heart attack when that article had appeared in one of the many gossip magazines that always managed to keep tabs on Skye when she thought she was being discreet. Not that she cared what happened to her manager. But she absolutely hated the lectures that she always had to sit through. And that one had last even longer than normal as the girl had ranted about how she would lose a lot of fans if she kept throwing objects at bell boys who brought the wrong order to her room.
So she gave a slightly weary smile and motioned to the chairs across from hers, frantically hoping that they were planning on actually doing work and not just talking to her so that they could go and tell their friends how they had ‘met Skye, and did you know her favorite color is orange?’
“Sure. Why not? Wouldn’t want you to have to sit on the floor trying to get your work done!” Her voice came out warm and inviting, surprising even herself at how good she could act when she wanted to.
