Meeting An Old Friend, Adrian

[Adrian Rhymes]

"I don't know," he kicked at a rock on the ground, "I guess I just thought our family had a good reputation, our people seemed to like us, but after we 'died', they just moved on to the next best thing. In our history books it made is seem as if they hadn't even mourned for us. Not even a little! I mean what am I supposed to feel? Happy? Come on dude..." he brought his bag around rustling through them before pulling out a pair of plastic white sunglasses. He had found them awhile back and really liked them, he slipped them on before closing his bag and turning it back to rest on his back.

[Michael]

Michael sighed a bit but not in a bothered or annoyed way. He was unsure how to explain to his young friend what had gone on after his “death.” “People mourned for you.” He finally said. “You’re Mother’s sister took the thrown though and she didn’t allow for too much of it.” He explained further. “What you must understand though is God made humans with strong wills so they could move on. The human race has known so much pain, heartache and lose. If they had not been able to move on …” He trailed out a little motioning around him. ‘None of this would be possible.”

"None of what?" he looked around at what Micheal was motioning too, "This world isn't any better then mine, yeah they advanced but it's...meaner." A simple word, but effective in explaining what he really thought. He didn't like it here, in his time people were kinder to each other, most of the time anyway. He had compassion for those who didn't have his title, or at least he like to believe he did. He never got much of a chance to interact with them because of the hierarchy that was set. "I'm sure this isn't what God had in mind, and if it was...I'd have to question his plan."

Adrian looked up to the sky, "Sorry big guy...but really..."

[Michael]

“It’s freewill.” Michael stated. “I mean life, love and freewill are the great gifts that he offers and truly the only that anyone person will need. He gives you the choice of working or living on the streets. Of being honest or being a criminal. Each person must choice what makes them happy and work with what they have. They may not always do it in a way that I even understand but …” he looked around at the passing people and shrugged a bit. “I don’t have and neither do you. You just have to worry about your own choices. I mean ask yourself, what is better a life of pain and pleasure or no life at all.” Times had changed sense Adrian’s but truly the young man had no idea. Michael had been more than just centuries and the times had more than just changed.”

"But aren't there moments when you just look at all of it and wonder if it was that great of an idea? Look where my free will got me!? I've had moments where I wonder why God doesn't just wipe us all off the face of Earth and start over," Adrian made a wide sweeping motion with his arm before letting one drop to his side and the other grabbing onto the strap of his backpack.

"Maybe I"m just cynical..." he shrugged a bit.

[Michael]

“It’s hard to explain really.” He started to say. “I mean who really measures if you life was worth the trouble or not? Certainly not you or me.” He stopped a second. He knew to trust in God and his plan but he often trusted so much that he didn’t form opinions of his own. As an angel he wasn’t given freewill. He wasn’t given the choice to ignore the pain cause by the loss of grace or wither or not to follow God’s plan. His life was hard in a sense but in another it was also easy.

“None of us really know what God had in mind when he created life and I don’t believe anyone is supposed to …” He trailed off some, a bit for a sigh escape him. “Did you have other questions?” he asked. He thought it a bit more important to get the brothers on the right track then talk about human nature. Truly, it had no answer.

"You got most of them..." Adrian shrugged and looked up at the angel, "So why are you down here? Have you been sent to send someone else to hell? I have to tell ya, you're job sucks, on both ends. Or do you get a kick out of sending people to hell. I mean we all must deserve it if we do right?" Adrian couldn't help but ask that, he had always been curious about angels even as a child, they were depicted as beautiful creatures but they seemed to have it hard. Harder then most thought.

Michael half smiled as the teen said he had no question yet was ready to ask another. He looked on at Adrian though as he spoke and sighed some. A frown on his face. “I don’t enjoy it.” He answered as the other finished as to wither he liked his job or not. “And I also don’t judge them, it isn’t my place.” He never spoke of what he did and how it felt. Honestly, he hated it but he would never say so, he had a job given to him by God, he wasn’t in any place to complain now was he? “As for being here … We go where needed.” He said softly. “Right now there are some people around here that want a war with us so I’m here to stop it before it starts.”

"A war, and they're in San Francisco? You'd think they'd go somewhere..more...I don't know. San Fran just doesn't seem the place to do anything like that. Go to like....oh what is that place...Washington!" Adrian snapped his fingers remembering where this country's powers were. One of the few things he had been able to retain during his droll boring class. It really took all his will power to not fall asleep.

[Michael]

“It is a war on the US.” He laughed. “Just one of God and his ways.” He shrugged wondering how much to talk about. “Really it’s just that this city is filled with doubt and sin.” He explained. “What better place to take on God then where the people feel him the least?” The demons wanted more than anything to win against God and each soul they claimed was another blow against the Father. Freewill allowed the humans to make their own choices and it saddened him how many had been lost so far and how little he could really do. Or rather how it felt he was doing so little. It was hard because he had to try and save them without forcing them and without deceiving them. He could only show them the path; he couldn’t walk them down it.

"It all just sounds stupid, who would want to start any war? And with God no less! Do they really think they'll win? Seriously?" It was the dumbest thing Adrian had ever heard, granted three hundred years ago he would have disagreed but being thrown into the burning abyss of hell could really make you change your mind and beliefs quick. Though he guessed it didn't really matter to him if he just stayed away from it and continued on with his own thing. God couldn't be angry at him for wanting to stay out of trouble right? Even if he did kind of look for it.

The male just shrugged. “Those with too much pride.” He said honestly though it was an obvious understatement. Pride had been what had caused the fall of Lucifer and his followers. He shook his head some and looked towards the sky. “This is a fight that has been long in the making.” He explained and shook his head, his eyes looking back to his younger friend then. “The best thing for you to do.” He said as if answering the boy’s unspoken questions. “Is to remain out of the fighting. God wants you back on his side but he doesn’t need you to fight a war to prove it and besides, in your own and your brother’s own way … You’re helping him to win.”
