A M A R I & A M A S K
It was very early in the morning when Amari had told the wherlings to be there. There wasn't anything that the whers needed to do, so she had asked them to come early before the sun rose. The whers would hopefully be tired enough that they would be calm. She and Amask waited in the lesson area for all of the wherlings to arrive. She was sitting calmly next to the bronze wher, watching the door for her wherlings to come through it. When they did, she simply smiled at them and nodded to the area in front of her. Amask watched avidly, looking very much like he usually did. In other words, like a large ugly puppy.

Good morning, wherlings. I hope you're all awake. Today we'll be going over your whers' anatomy. Whers are much like dragons, but everything about them is designed for living in the dark. Their eyes, while they change colors like a dragon's eyes, are smoothed out. This is why they can't see in daylight.

Amask looked up at his handler happily, then turned his head and opened his eye wide to show it off.

Wher hide is much thicker than dragon hide, and should be oiled as much to avoid cracking. Whers are designed for running, so they have strong legs and two-toed feet.

Amask lifted his foot and looked at it, as if first noticing it.

Whers are capable of flight, but only at night when the air is thick enough to support them even on small wings. They are also capable of flaming, and you will be flying against Thread when you graduate.

With that lecture done, she looked up at her audience. She looked over the four students that should be in front of her. Amask watched her avidly, ignoring the little whers for the most part. Amari stood and gestured her arms out grandly.

Do we have any questions? Anything else you want to know about your new bonds?

((o.O I totally didn't even realize this was here until I read the news post today. Sorry!))

Renlia was a little tired herself as she walked to the lesson with the dozy Renlisk beside her. It was funny how her habits were reversed now. She always went to bed at sunrise, sometimes waking up for a few hours during the day to do errands that required dealing with "daylight" folk, and then she napped again before waking up at sunset for patrols and lessons.

"Evening, Master Amari," she said politely as she arrived at the lesson. Renlisk chirped a greeting to Amarisk, then lay down and curled up, half-asleep. Renlia smiled and stroked the wherling's white hide as she listened to the lesson.

She followed Renlisk's anatomy with her eyes as Amari listed off the information. Some people thought whers were ugly, but Renlia had to disagree. They were beautiful like dragons, just in a different way. She felt a little thrill of excitement when Amari talked about fighting Thread. She couldn't wait to try it.

((So I know I beyond owe this post and I was shamefully proud when I completed it last night and it was a pretty good post for me. And though I posted it last night and double checked to make sure it posted, when I checked today...nothing. It's disappointing and aggravating when my computer keeps doing this. ><))

Derrin was moving rather quickly through the thick night air, not at his top speed but fast enough to distance himself from the still small brown Wher. Which in no way made the small Brown Wher happy. Derrisk felt the urgency in him rise as Derrin managed to put even more distance in between them while running to where the lessons were held, they had wanted to take a quick walk on the Beach before lessons but had ended up staying much longer than either of them had anticipated which was why Derrin was running so far ahead. But Derrisk knew he needed to catch up, if he didn't somethign terrible could happen to his, anything because Derrin never watched where he was going; that was Derrisk's job. But with his body size being considerably smaller and the sun was set to rise soon, the wherlet was having trouble pushing himself forward to catch up. Sooner or later, Derrin was bound to trip and Derrisk needed to be there to catch him before he hit the ground.

It was inevitable that Derrin would fall, which he did and the Brown wherlet had not been able to catch up yet which meant that Derrin hit the ground running-literally. Tripping over his own feet, Derrin slid head first into the ground managing to get a mouthful of dirt on the way down. Not a pretty sight at all. Derrisk halted beside Derrin, planting a large wherlet paw in the middle of his back to keep him down, thoguh the Brown was not able to completely able to hold Derrin down as of yet it was obvious what he wanted and Derrisk was not taking "no's" Worried, he sniffed and whiffled his way around Derrin's body, making sure the boy was alright before stepping back so that Derrin could get up. If Derrisk's not run ahead. Run ahead is bad. Very bad. Derrisk no protect if Derrisk's is too far. Well, we are late for class, I just wanted to get there as soon as possible. Bracing himself so that Derrin could use his body to stabilize himself as he stood, the Wher did a mental eyeroll. Now really late. Fall make us later, stay beside Derrisk. And this was a command, Derrisk was setting the pace this time.

They both entered the room stiffly formal, though Derrin looked like a shipwreck and Derrisk whirling eyes proclaimed that he was aggravated. No matter how Derrisk adored Derrin, when he could have prevented Derrin from getting hurt it angered Derrisk because he should have been able to protect him. But that was not now, now was class and that was what he would worry about. Derrin was not nearly as transparent as he was pretending to be and though he tried to make it to his seat as quietly as possible, anyone who knew Derrin knew that this was impossible for him. Poor Derrin was simply not able to be quiet. From the first frantic wave and hushed hello to trying to scoot to his 'spot' without being noticed which made him all the more noticeable and then he managed to trip on his own foot yet again though Derrisk was there to stop his fall, it was clear teh amount of noise he made was no where near the quiet entrance that he or Derrisk had planned on making. In fact, it was rather conspicuous.

And Derrin could not help but compound on this fact by waiting until the end of the lecture, since he entered as Amari began explaining the Wher hides. "Yes, i have questions. How much is'as much as possible?' And can you oil them too much do you ride them like Dragons? And how much should they eat a day/ Because Derrisk eats A LOT. And I know about how big they will grow but Derrisk looks bigger than average, will he get really really big? And is there any way they can break a bone or pull a muscle? Should they be exercised?" And yes. These were all burning questions for Derrin.

((Aero is a failure and knows she needed to post this earlier. Dx She is sorry.))

So, R'kol had managed to get situated into his schedule now. His role as both a wherhandler and a dragonrider made things a tad bit confusing, especially since both species had adapted to different times of day; dragons, day; whers, night. 'Course, he couldn't just stay up twenty-four hours each day, every sevenday. He wasn't willing to find out what would happen if he did that, so he changed his sleep schedule so that he would sleep during the light hours on days he didn't have Wing practice, and sleep at night on days before the days of Wing practice.... And all this thought was making R'kol a bit confused. He wouldn't admit it to anyone, but Chryonyth was more the brains of the trio and did all that "logical stuff."

Then, there was the matter of keeping the two from getting jealous and.... Wait, did he think about this Sharding stuff before each lesson? His entire mind was going in circles.

Rahsk doesn't know why Rahsk's make self so confused. Just go to lesson, get done, do stuff. The surprising thing was the the wherling wher made a lot of sense for something his age and... reputed intelligence. But R'kol liked him, just like he loved Chryonyth. They were both very special dragons and whers, and he wouldn't give them up for anything....

...Though he'd take the ale and women (or men, if he was desperate) if he had the chance.

Meanwhile, sitting near the Sands, Chryonyth rolled his eyes. Women and ale, as always, he thought to himself. Least he had time to sit and think to himself, as well as wait for more eggs to be laid on the Sands. His was occupied, which made things a little (though, more like a lot) more quieter around here.

Anyway, the wher and dragonrider/wherhandler had arrived on time* for the lesson, though Rahsk seemed a little bit sleepy, but he was still a bundle of energy compared to most others. The little wherling's tail waved around, seemingly of its own accord, and his eyes were fixated on the larger bronze wher who was demonstrating. R'kol listened, nodded to each piece of information, and filed it away to his memory, Rahsk raising his two-toed front foot up as high as he could and leaning to the side as Amari mentioned them.

This lesson didn't seem too bad, and R'kol, being as unimaginative and dimwitted as he was, couldn't really pull any questions out of his head and ask them. He figured he'd learned everything he needed, he supposed, but surely, the four pairs would be doing something today other than sitting and listening. It seemed to be a bit short....

*((Lulz, conflicting with itself. <<))
