Sing for absolution
I will be singing
Falling from your grace

Crystalline blue hues lifting to the sky the swirls of blues, pinks and purples were taken in, signs of sunset and all things that happened afterwards which were only whispered among her human brethren. She had even seen a few people get hysterical when night fell, saying that the darkness was cursed, that people were swallowed up into it. Carina was young though, born into the forsaken world of the aftermath of WWIII. Nevertheless, she was still a happy little soul, even though she didn't have much. Her mother running off long ago and her brother mysteriously vanishing, all she really had left was her father who was hardly ever home, either working or yeah, working. If he stayed too late at work, sometimes he would just stay there, being a believer in the whispered stories of the night. Tonight, was one of those nights and Rina just couldn't stand being home by herself, it was so boring.

Oh! Oh! Lifting her hand to her ear, she giggled as one of her favorite songs came on, a really upbeat song that she could dance to. (the title really has nothing to do with the music she's listening to, more of her personality) Even though she was alone, Rina twirled around and started to sing out aloud to the music playing in her headset, giggling when she almost tripped. As she moved, it was almost captivating, her childish free spirit, her blond locks twirling and twisting as she spun and of course, those eyes just seeming to light up with joy as she just let herself go. This all went on for about well...the song was about 4 minutes long and then, oumf. Rina had playfully flopped over into the grass, her chest rising and falling rapidly, wearing herself out with all those twirls and goofy dance movements. Hmm, look...the stars were starting to come out to play, hehe.

Honestly, Rina had only been out at night alone a few times, her father being strict on her as always ever since her little brother vanished. It was to be expected, as a father he was worried, but to Rina, he was just suppressing her, keeping her locked up from fun. Golden locks brushing against her face, Rina pushed her loose curls back, just enjoying the serenity of laying in the cool grass and watching the night sky. It was so beautiful and peaceful here at night, she just couldn't understand how it was supposed to bring out "evil" as people said.

The sky was darkening, Mat could see that from Serafima's little castle of darkness. There was a touch of color in the skies from the setting sun, but nothing of his kind can avoid. Such colors could be seen as beauty to your average artist, but one of Mat's dispair... all he could see was gray. Horrid, ugly, and bitter gray out of those colors filled with deceit. The colors once use to represent something good, something beautiful, but now it was just a constant reminder of blood... and his inhumane need to feed. Yes, the light was dimming and Mat was going to go out and feed his cravings. At first, Mat resent his urge to feed with a deep compassion, but a thousand years could change one's disposition on such things. Mat was starving, and there was nothing to kill yet another day than a nice hunt. And even though it was slightly light out, Mat could hunt from the shadows that sun casted. Mat had those special gifts, courtesy to the Lady of this house. Or more formerly known as his master.

Mat couldn't have fitted into a better house than Zatemnja. He honored and was in complete fidelity to his Lady, though he preferred to wander the cold and desolate hallways within the bitter interiors of Serafima's house. He seemed to always keep to himself, nothing could ever really break a smile over his lips which seemed to be fused in a small, but cute, frown. Matthieu wasn't the happiest ever to walk to the face of the earth, but those reasons very few actually knew. Matthieu didn't really open up to many people after all. However, the only thing that kept him sane... even in his most un-dead form, would be his music. Such silverly notes fell from his lips when opened. The emotion could tear a human soul into two. However, his song wasn't just used as entertainment purposes in the house of Zatemnja. No no, it was also used as a siren in the outside world. It was his own way of hunting, a very cunning way. It brought the prey to him, such notes certainly couldn't go unnoticed. No matter how quiet and somber Mat was, he was just the type that couldn't escape your eye.

Without further ado, Mat was quite hungry and the sun was nearly gone... because the stars almost shone brightly in the sky. With this, Mat was able to slip out of the dark prison he belonged to, yet loved. During the night was his time, his house's time. It was when they reigned the strongest, for it was their strength. Passing through the shadows of the night was simple, Mat's lanky form moved through the night as though he was just smoke carried through the wind. There was just no knowing where he was going to stop. This time, he made it long past the well-defined lines of the Zatemnja territory. The heavy scent of water gave way to the fact he was encroaching on the House of Vodja. But Mat didn't care, he hasn't quite done anything. Nothing at all, there was no reason for him to be considered a threat at the moment. Nope, what an innocent man Mat was. What a laugh. Really, he wasn't as innocent as he portrayed himself to be. Okay, so his Lady might not like the fact he was hunting outside their territory, so Mat wasn't planning on actually spilling blood on Vodja land. No, just a quick glance around would suffice his curiosity. After all, being stuck in a building wasn't the most pleasurable thing ever. However, his short visit would seem to drag on longer, because a loud song seemed to crash through his thoughts. Well, he wasn't exactly in Xrabrij... so could the term 'curiosity killed the cat' couldn't be effective, could it?

However, it was the first time that Mat didn't turn his talent into a siren for luring young women to him. Tonight he would be the mouse seeking the big piece of deluctible cheese. Before he got there, however, the singing had ceased and Matthieu had to depend on his hunter instincts to continue his way towards the girl. It was dark, but Matthieu could see just fine. Once he came into visual contact with the girl, he slowed down to a normal human pace. He wouldn't just attack her, heaven forbid that. Like stated, Matthieu was a little bit cunning than that. Beside, such attacks brought flashbacks of his former life, and he always froze up. Such a mockery he made when that happen, he was the joke of the Zatemnja house. Needless to say, he has been stooping to more sneaky ways of hunting for some time now. He didn't need the extra attention at the house... he also didn't need a reason to make his Lady angry at him. Coming close enough to see golden locks on a thin frame, Mat kept his distance from there. He would have to play it cool, drag the victim to him. "What are you doing out this late? It's not safe." A simple fact, the soft and almost musical words floating from the immortal's lips though the sound of the blood beating through her heart was simply irresistible.

Can I believe
When I don't trust
All your theories
Turn to dust
I choose to hide
From the All Seeing Eye

Her eyes had closed, only for a moment, listening to a calming song of sad melodies filled with pain and sorrow. Music seemed to effect the girl's mood quite a bit, sad songs calming her and upbeat songs making her want to dance. Isn't that the way it was with most humans? Except, this one wasn't afraid to go ahead and show it, dance around at night and enjoy the night sky that little seemed to enjoy anymore. When she heard someone speak to her, she honestly expected to roll over and see her father...hearing that it was a male voice. So in preparation, she quickly rolled over, hit the button on a flashlight she had with her and lit up her face with it as a cute little, yet mocking "Boo!" made it past her lips.

Crystalline hues studying the figure before her, she immediately knew this was not her father coming after her. Instead, before her stood...a very intoxicating male that may...just maybe had Carina staring in awe for a moment. A soft line of rose spreading across her cheekbones and her nose, Rina sat up in the grass, lowering the light from her face and letting it flicker until it turned off. "Hehe, that's...just what my dad would say." she said in a gentle and in an instant, shy tone. But that all changed in the next phrase..."He didn't send you, did he?" she joked, a soft giggle soon to follow. Of course she knew her father didn't send this man out here for her. If such an attractive man were to make his way on the scene, Rina's dad was the kind of person to try to distract her from the direction of the attractive man. Afraid to lose the only one he had left, it made perfect sense.

Rina was a strange one, a unique one even...she was sitting in the dark with some guy standing off behind her that she didn't even know and she wasn't even nervous enough to get on her feet. She was sheltered and young, she had yet to feel such terror and pain that those that lived through the war had felt. That and...the existence of vampires was nothing more than just a folklore to her. How had someone so naive to the dangers of the night stayed alive so long? Well, that's thanks to dear old overprotective dad...who just couldn't seem to trust his daughter to stay out of trouble for a minute.

Under normal circumstances, Mat would just give a convincing, but fake, smile at her words. The fake smile would be followed by fake and carefree words, joking about how he was sent by her father. An obvious joke, an obvious attempt at a flirt. From there, depending on Carina's reactions, Matthieu could execute several trial and error methods he has perfected over the course of a thousand years. To woo her, or some other method of casually luring his prey into him. A struggle would be such a horrid thing. Let the other be intoxicated by him, let them want to be drowned in his presence, let them willfully give themselves to him because they want to sacrifice so their 'beloved' could live. It was always like such for the guy who really never had been in love. Some call him heartless, but Matthieu was just an animal. He just did whatever he could survive by the only way that he could. But he wasn't without a heart. He knew boundaries, and even though he was only about a thousand years old... he was still relatively young. Such human memories and feelings sometimes surfaced at the most horrid times.

Like the time that Carina flashed her flashlight up to her face in attempts to scare him. That was the exact reason that made this an un-normal circumstance... and the reason that Mat did not sweet talk or attempt to flirt with Carina. It caught him off guard, but not in that scared way. No no, Matthieu did not jump or show any signs of surprise. Instead, all he could do was gape at the girl... the light illuminating the facial features that nearly made his heart stop. Well, actually, it was just one facial feature that made his heart skip beats and his dark brown hues to open wide in surprise. It was those crystalline blue eyes... the same that matched the only other interest of Mat's. Yes, it was the same eyes as those of his Master's. But above all things, it was the same eyes as those of his beloved Katherine. Of course, not in that silly incestual way. It was the only person he fully trusted, even compared to his dear Serafima. The sheer shock seemed to find itself gone quickly from the male's face, perhaps mistaken as 'fright' from Rina's 'scare'. However, the panic that seemed to replace this shock could not be mistaken as anything else. After all... in Mat's eyes, he had to protect his 'Kat'.

Moving, perhaps a bit faster than what a human should, Mat went to grab Carina's arm to 'help' her to her feet. The air way to his lungs seemed to collapse at random times, making the old but young man hold his breath at obscene moments. Kat... she had to go home. She couldn't be out here. It was not safe. The flashbacks of that vague night ran vividly though his mind. Like stated before, it was the most un-natural times did Mat seem to adopt a more human instinct. A faint shadow of who he use to be before his encounter with the almighty Serafima. "You need to go home. It's too late... outside. Go home!" What odd and strange behavior from a perfect stranger, right? Well, wrong. To Matthieu, this wasn't a stranger. In his eyes, locking down on those rare and one of a kind hues of clear blue... at this moment, Mat was speaking to his sister. Give him a break, he has lived for a thousand years... it was okay to be delirious every once in awhile... right?

Declare this an emergency
Come on and spread a sense of urgency
And pull us through
And pull us through
And this is the end
This is the end of the world

It was a good thing that the seemingly young man didn't just play along with her story...it would have been a dead giveaway of his original intentions. Now, she may have said it on a playful whim but something about her subconscious just set verbal traps that she could later pick up. It was weird and a lot of the time, amazing how the mind worked. His first trap was avoided, but his behavior set off another instinctual alarm. He was just staring at her...it was..ehh..weird. Now she knew she was being goofy...but he didn't have to stare at her like that!

Just as she was about to say something to snap the guy out of it; most likely something goofy but it still would have worked; the guy started getting frantic. Once her arm was grabbed, her mouth hung open for a moment before she was being drug away into the darkness with this guy. Ahh, now she got it...all those stories about people being drug off into the night...they were drug away by insane lunatics like this! This guy...had lost his mind! The instant that thought set, Rina's body was quick to follow, well as quick as a mere human's could and she was struggling against his death grip on her arm.

Ahh! It didn't seem like this guy was ever going to let go and out of those crystalline hues slipped the salty tears of a young girl in terror. Oh god, she was so sorry for disobeying her father...he was right! He was so right, and now she was going to be drug off with this guy and god knows what would happen to her! Giving a jerk on her arm, she was flung back like a recoiling gun, her body heading to crash right into the guy that was so set on taking her away.

[Sorry it's so short =( my muse is just short attention spanned lately]

Matthieu wasn't sure what exactly had come over him. It wasn't like him to be so forward or anything, but the one thing that he had lived his life for after the war was his sister. Katherine was Mat's everything, she stood by him to help him even when he couldn't help himself. Kat believed in him, he trusted him, she was everything that Mat had left. Well, had left before she was so bluntly taken from him during a walk home. Which, of course, Mat blamed himself for. It was only human nature to blame himself after such a tragic event... even though he had no idea that those that took his sister was of greater strength then his human strength. He knew better now, but he was still young enough to want to protect Kat. Sure, Mat knew she was dead. Kat was gone, but such crystalline hues were a terribly shock to his psyche. All he wanted to do was to protect what reminded him of something he had once held so dear before all emotions seemed to be pulled from his body and mind.

Mat was basically a loner in the Zatemnja house. He served and spoke to none other than his Lady. So, perhaps the blue eyes had a lot to do with his behavior, but then again being a loner he didn't really know how to handle these situations very well either. Poor Rina. She was just a victim of a victimized killer. Odd, but in a way extremely true. Then there was a horrible fact that Mat was a hunter in the land of humans and vampire, and her struggling was just setting off a chained reaction. In her struggle, Mat's grip on her just tightened. It was a horrible thing, seeing as his grip could eventually break bones, but it was a natural reaction to what she was doing. Little did she know, that the more she struggled, the sooner her life would perish without him even meaning to do so. It was just natural instinct to his kind. Kill the weak, kill the struggling, kill kill kill. Luckily for her, two things happened that would save her life and keep this story from ending before it even began.

One thing was the salty stench that made it's way to Mat's nose. His keener sense as a dead hunter made the salty smell even more powerful than what humans could smell from tears. To be quite honest, it nearly broke his heart just realizing that this girl... the girl with his sister's eyes, was crying. That caused him to loosen his grip on her a little bit, just to enough so her dainty bones would snap in half. It wasn't enough to send her flying into him when she tried to yank out of his grip. Such collision caused him to stumble just a bit, but mainly Mat's overall reaction was to release the girl just so he could go to wrap his arms around her, burying his cold cheek into the mass of blond hair. "I'm sorry... don't cry, please... don't cry..."

Please, please someone help! She kept screaming it in her mind but she just couldn't speak, she was frightened and yet she couldn't speak...or did that make sense? Along with that, she kept thinking of her father's face and how he always scolded her when she wanted to go out this late at night and one time he was so forceful about her not going that he literally hoisted her up and away from the door. She was very young by all standards, only seventeen and not even an adult yet in the eyes of humans and considered even younger if one would compare her age to a vampire.

What...what was going on? She felt a rush of cold skin over her arms, to her waist and even resting upon her head. Before she knew it, in the recoil of her jolt from the man that seemed to be crushing the bones in her arm...she was now deeply intertwined in an embrace. How...how had her assaulter...but he was just hurting her and trying to drag her off into the night? He was freezing cold, the touch of his skin in the night air alone making her feel cold chills. Without even thinking, in her own need for comforting, her arms slowly raised and wrapped around the male as a blush spread across her cheeks and nose. Oh, this was all so confusing...was this guy insane? He had to be something...nothing made any regular person act this way unless they were somehow mentally scared. What should she do in a situation like this? If she started to struggle again, he'd probably just grab onto her arms again and she could still feel the pain from the steel grip he had last time.

Humans were such strange creatures, adapting to changes in their environment fairly easily and their strong survival instincts. Those instincts were probably the only thing keeping them alive this long...well that and the fact that the vampires kept such a large amount of them around for a food source. But, how was she to know that? Carina didn't even know such night walkers existed in the world she lived in. Strange, she didn't even notice it but her tears had stopped as she stood there in thought, embracing this strange and physically alluring man. "Why....why can't I be out here?" she whispered, a question that she wanted to ask her father so many times before.
