Jesse Ed Davis, the late great American Indian guitarist. Can't find too much on him on the web apart from a single site in Japan and wikipedia and allmusic.com entries. Anybody help with this?
They played together with John Lennon, at Concert for Bangladesh and other sessions. Best, Matty -------------------- I took my potatoes

Hi Matty!
I tried to find some info on JED, but pretty much every site I visited had the same biography (the one from wikipedia). On imdb.com it says that he played at The Rolling Stones Rock & Roll Circus as the guitarist for Taj Mahal. I didn't know that, now I have to go rewatch the DVD! ![]() Tory -------------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() Rain, I don't mind |

Thanks for the feedback on Jesse Ed. I picked up a "2 albums on 1 CD" disc recently containing his first two outings as a solo artist, backed up by Clapton, Leon Russell and many of the big guns of the early 70's. Jesse isn't the best singer though it's a rockin' good album with some nice horn sections.
His playing with Taj Mahal is arguably the best stuff he did. Check out Taj's first three CDs if interested. The Rock and Roll Circus set is good. There are 3 extra tracks with Taj and the boys on the dvd. Jesse Ed had a well documented guitar signature which was quite sparse compared to his contemparies (Clapton, Hendrix etc) though impressive and well suited to the song. Getting back to Klaus, however, I see George's "Living in the material world" is up for CD re-release with a DVD of footage from the time. No doubt Klaus will be featured. I read - also - that Klaus plays tenor sax along with Jim Horn on this album! Talented guy! ![]() Check out this pic featuring Klaus third from the left. -------------------- I took my potatoes

Very cool photo Matty...THANKS!
Yes, Klaus also plays sax on a Harry Nilsson song, "You're Breakin' My Heart". You can see the video on YouTube...it's pretty funny... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LduNX_ulJrQ Suzanne -------------------- |

I found out that Jesse Ed and Klaus played together on albums by Ringo, John and George. Also Van Dyke Parks. Probably others. I guess they were part of the same Session Scene.
On the pic I posted from George's gardens, Jim Horn, Nicky Hopkins and Jim Keltner are also pictured. They did sessions with Klaus on various albums. The two Jims also feature on the Concert for Bangladesh. BTW, Klaus - like Jim Horn and Billy Preston - has recorded with all four Beatles. He played alongside Macca on the Ringo album (Paul played synths and sang) and is seen playing beside Paul live more recently on the Concert for George DVD (two tracks: All things must pass and Wah Wah). So now you know! Best, Matty -------------------- I took my potatoes

Great pic! Looks like it could possibly be from George's "Crackerbox Palace" video. Not sure though!!

Notable omissions from both The Concert for Bangladesh DVD launch gala and The Concert for George were - to my mind - Bob Dylan and Leon Russell. No doubt Bob was abroad somewhere on his Never Ending Tour but what of Mr Russell? Given his contribution to The Concert for Bangladesh I wonder why he wasn't at either of these events? I've seen fairly recent footage of him playing with Willie Nelson and the since-departed Ray Charles and he still seemed to be playing and singing as well as ever. These days he looks like a mix between Santa Claus, Saruman and an older brother to Johnny and Edgar Winter, with his long flowing white hair and beard.
Just wondered if anybody had any ideas ... Best, Matty -------------------- I took my potatoes

Good question Matty. I know Leon tours so maybe he had a conflict during those times...hard to say. I hope he's well, though. I loved his performance at the Concert for Bangladesh...
As to his appearance, well....you are so right. Here is a little demo of the four you mentioned...Leon looks like he could be related to all of them! -------------------- |

Ha ha! Great set of pics!
If you needed further proof that Leon is related to the Winter Brothers, here it is: ![]() Anyhow, once again I'm going off on a tangent away from the topic of Klaus, so I'll quit rambling! Adios, Matty -------------------- I took my potatoes

Klaus probably played with bassist Carl Radle. What!? Klaus played alongside another bassist?!
http://www.carlradle.com/ You may know Carl used Klaus's bass for the Leon Russell set at the Bangladesh concert. Also, in the sleeve notes for the re-mastered All thing must pass album, GH talks about the recording sessions with the Phil Spector Wall of Sound. He mentions that one song used two bass players. Seeing as Carl and our hero were the only two credited, that would suggest they played together. Shame Carl burned out young. If you look for 70's performances of Clapton on youtube (e.g. Whistle Test), Derek and Dominos, Delaney and Bonnie (60's or 70's? I dunno), you'll probably see Carl on bass. He also worked for Leon Russell. Matty -------------------- I took my potatoes

Matty, that's interesting.
Ok, this might sound like a dumb question, but why didn't Carl Radle play his own bass for the Leon Russell set? (I mean, I know Klaus's bass is much prettier than Carl's, but....) Also, I'm sure you know that Leon played Klaus's bass during the Bob Dylan set! Thanks for the link...I'll check it out! Suzanne -------------------- |

Klaus also plays on these albums on Apple Records: "Doris Troy" (1970) "Is This What You Want?" by Jackie Lomax (1969) You have already mentioned Harry Nilsson: Klaus plays on "Nilsson Schmilsson" (1971) "Son of Schmilsson" (1972) "Pussy Cats" (1974) "Du It On Mon Dei (1975) "Sandman" (1975) and has also created the cover of his "Knnillssonn" album (1977)... He also performs on the first two Gary Wright solo albums: "Extraction" (1971)-also painted the cover!- "Footprint" (1972) Cristiano |

Cristiano...try this: iheartklaus.com music links
The last link titled ...and more... has a partial Klaus discography. With Klaus, even a partial discography is pretty huge! Lou Reed's Transformer is on the list. -------------------- |

Nicky Hopkins (piano) has probably been mentioned earlier. His connections with Klaus include solo Beatles albums as many of you will know.
I found the following link with some mp3's of tracks Nicky Hopkins played on including his solo work. Klaus is on some of these. Also, for those of you (Tory? Perhaps others too) who like The Who, if you scroll down you'll see some sessions which include John Entwistle. http://www.rocksoff.org/nicky-audio.htm Best, Matty -------------------- I took my potatoes
