Klaus received his first Grammy award for the Revolver cover. If I'm not mistaken, it was the first time anyone received a Grammy for album cover design.

The first Anthology cover. Most people don't realize that the Anthology covers are painted. They are so amazing, they look like photos!

:o That last one is kinda scary. What is that group?

My favorite Anthology cover is also #3. (But I love them all!)

The Bee Gees - "Idea"

Hi,

While Klaus played on the Ringo album, he did not - to the best of my knowledge - paint the sleeve artwork. He did, however, draw the lithographs which feature inside the LP sleeve and CD booklet. There's one for each song and most feature Ringo - or somebody who resembles him quite a bit.

I forget the name of the person who painted the main sleeve. Klaus is pictured in the said artwork and - unsurprisingly - he is seen sketching.

Like the message board - thanks for the warm welcome.

Hi Matty,

Thanks so much for the info about the Ringo album...I appreciate it. I am not an expert on Klaus (as you have guessed), but I do appreciate his art and his huge contribution to the music that I love. Not only that, but he is such a wonderful, amazing person.

We're very glad you're here!

Suzanne,

You seem pretty knowledgable on all things Klaus to me!

BTW, was it you who said you'd seen Johnny Winter play lots of times elsewhere on his board? I'd be interested to hear about this. I saw him play in '99 and his brother Edgar play more recently, perhaps 2004 or 2005.

I understand that Johnny's health has improved lately after problems from the mid-nineties onwards. A youtube video of a recent show which I watched seemed to confirm this - quite a bit of the old fire is back!

Best,

Matty

Hi Matty,

Yes, I have seen Johnny (and Edgar too) lots of times. My very first concert was seeing him when I was 13. I saw him as you did in 1999 after several years of not seeing him and I was shocked and saddened at his condition. But, as you said, more recently his health has improved dramatically and that old fire is returning. His playing, his voice--everything seems to be improving. I believe this has a great deal to do with his long-time manager now being out of the picture. Johnny's new manager is a big fan and really has Johnny's best interests at heart. It shows. I am thrilled that things are looking up.

As to Edgar, I have seen him many times also. I just saw him over the summer touring with Ringo's All Starr Band, which was truly fantastic. Edgar stole the show and everyone was talking about him after his performance with absolute amazement. Edgar is doing really great--he is very healthy and happy and still making records. His second to last release, called Winter Blues, is one of my favorites he's ever done. He is supposed to be coming out with a new CD soon called Rockin' the Blues, so that should be great too.

I always love talking about those Winter brothers. They are both musical geniuses. Johnny is my all-time favorite guitar player and I think Edgar plays every instrument known to man! They are really something!

Have a great weekend Matty!

Thanks for the Johnny and Edgar Winter info Suzanne - apologies from me to the other readers for not posting that question in the General Discussiona area though perhaps there is a link between Klaus's art and the Winter Brothers if we look hard enough!

In fact Suzanne already gave one - Klaus contributed art to Ringo's album(s) and Ringo currently employs Edgar! There we have it.

BTW, Suzanne - Are you the Suzanne who runs or ran a website on the Winter Brothers (was it Winterized?). If so, I think I may have discussed things with you on Winter Bros related threads previously. Perhaps Kirk's Edgar board. Don't remember. Seem to think that that Suzanne and Kirk - in addition to a few other regulars on Kirk's board - appeared in the audience on the Edgar Winter Live at the Galaxy DVD. Perhaps it was you? Bit of a long shot, but stranger coincidences have arisen!

Best,

Matty

Did you know there is a picture of Klaus on the Revolver cover? I found it while looking at the cover of my Beatle vinyl! A picture of him as well as his name and the year are located in the north-east corner of George's hair!

Peter, an updated version of Klaus in George's hair is also on the Anthology 3 album cover in the same spot!

Here are the two together:

To see the two side-by-side is funny!!

Anybody know what the "O.W." stands for?

Suzanne - September 24, 2006 04:11 PM (GMT)
I think the O.W. stands for "Outstandingly Wonderful"!

What do you think? :D

The last RCA album by Nilsson, released in 1977, was titled ....KNNILLSSONN (!!!)

The four-eyed portrait of Harry was shot by Klaus B) :

I don't have this album myself, but Macca's 1999 offering 'Run Devil Run' credits Klaus as contributing some drawings. At least that's what it says on allmusic.com. I don't think it is the main sleeve art; perhaps some drawings in the liner notes/booklet.

Has anybody seen these?

Best,

Matty

Hi Matty,

I believe this is the art that Klaus did for Paul's Run Devil Run album. I remember they mentioned it in the Yahoo discography for Klaus, and then I checked with Wikipedia, and sure enough...looks like this is it. There may be more...I'm not sure.
