Hey there.

I go to install Dungeon Keeper & Deepder Dungeons on Vista.

It installs fine and says restart computer la de da.

Then when i go to play it, it comes up with the Dungeon Keeper screen with Horny on it, then minimizes and closes.

I used to play it in Xp and it worked perfectly, but for some reason I cannot play it, which is really pissing me off, as it is the best game i've ever had, and I still play it 11 years after i first got it!

Also, when i try to use the Official level editor, I cannot seem to edit the CFG. file, i alter the destination path, and vista tells me it cannot create it.

I'm getting to the end of my tether!

Does anyone know how to remedy this?

Thanks ever so much!!

I tried DK1 and Vista on my old Athlon XP-2200+. I'm sure it works.
I logged in Vista as an administrator, and started DK with compatibility mode set to XP SP2.

I made a little video with my Archos AV340 (the picture isn't good, but you'll be able to see).

I have the same problem. I did some searches along the web to see if people had sollutions, and I think some had, but it required to download some sort of windows 95 emulator program for windows vista. I decided not to bother and simply play DK on my PC upstairs with windows XP.

Screw Vista!

Hey, sorry; my other aacount (DarkMisstress) won't sign in for some reason!

The emulator I think your talking about (Dosbox?) I've tried! It plays in a small window which really effects the game.

Has anybody found an alternative solution?

Perhaps EA can issue a Vista patch? Hah, who am I kidding!

Anyone?

Thankyou!

Just read instructions!

DosBox is an excellent tool, which allows you playing _ANY_ DOS game on _ANY_ system.

... but i prefer Win95 version of DK so I'm not using it for this specific game.

Anyway to go fullscreen press alt+enter.

How can I play Dungeon Keeper Gold on DOSBOX?

I mean like, when i've gone to play it through it it just plays Dungeon Keeper.

How do I get the Editor & Deeper Dungeons to play through it too?

Ta.

I press Alt&Enter but it tells me that my system doesn't support this.

& When I go to sort the files out for the editor, I copy everything and then the final step which is the CFG file, it wont let me alter the pah to point to my keeper directory. f***ing Vista.

Remedy?

@ DzjeeAr,

Where have you found these individuals that state you need a Windows 95 Emulator Program?

I only ask because during last summer he was trying to get DK 1 working on his Compaq Computer. Heh, he was angry at me most of the time because I have an XP that can play it icon_biggrin.gif .

I did recall that he had troubles with the CFG file as well, in fact, that was the only problem icon_confused.gif .

Hey, I have a COMPAQ PC. With Vista obviously!

How did your friend manage to edit the CFG file and/or play Dungeon Keeper?

Thanks.

Deeper Dungeons and the official editor are Windows-only, so you cannot play/use them in DOS. This is unfortunate since the DOS version doesn't suffer those stupid CPU-speed-dependent UI timer routine problems (though this may only be due to fewer cycles being available under emulation of the CPU - even dynamic core is going to be appreciably slower than native execution).

But surely if I use the depper dungeons disc instead of DK gold it will play through DOS? As it was released like about a year after DK1?

The CFG file you can open using notepad, then you can edit it. Typically, you should go for a full install by copying the folders Levels, Data, and Ldata from your Keeper CD into your local Keeper directory, and adject the path in keeper.cfg accordingly using notepad.

So far, for me, it works everywhere, except for Vista... I would bother trying to figure out what exactly could work for Vista, if I wouldn't simply stick with the more reliable XP.

Simply run a search on google on the keywords Dungeon-Keeper and vista , and search for messageboards where people ask questions how to play it. You'll find multiple sources advising to use some sort of windows 95 emulator.

@ DarkMisstress,

Excuse my wording, DarkMisstress. By 'he' I was meaning my brother. He, as of right now (I think <_<) cannot run DK 1 on his Compaq PC, so the CFG problem is still persistent.

@ DzjeeAr,

Ever since I called him last night, my brother told me from his research that simply buying another tower with a different operating system to play Dungeon Keeper 1 would be much easier.
