I don't know about anyone else but I'm concerned about the safety at The olympics.

First the security chosen for the job have let down big time. Not only do they need 3000+ of our forces to fill in because they haven't sorted the job, now staff haven't turned up at venues for the olympics and the police have been called in to replace them.

What an absolute shambles of organisation. I truly hope other areas have been better organised. As things look at the moment I am not convinced. I hope this will be sorted and that other organisers aren't going to let down those taking part and their followers.

I'm just glad I'm not going anywhere near the games. I shall watch what I need to from the tv and hope it all goes safely if nothing else. ninja.gif

It was, indeed, a shambles. That's what you get for trusting something as vital as this to a private company. It was always an issue of National security. Not some nice way to allow a bunch of directors to line their pockets. (Which they have now signally failed to do!). Luckily we have our army and police to step in. I'd trust that lot.

I agree, turning it over to a private company was always going to be a disaster

It would not surprise me if terrorists are planning something huge.

That's what worries me regarding terrorists. It's the perfect opportunity. But we can't get better than the army to protect us. Which looking at it in a different light can only be a good thing. And hopefully after the riots last year the police will be in a better postion to defend should problems arise. Last year they were afraid to react for fear of being accused of not doing the right thing. I think they've been given stronger protection now? But I don't think it's rioting we have to worry about. Something even more worrying.

This all sounds so negative so apologies for that, but it is a concern I'm sure many others have too.

Hopefully this will be a lesson as to what happens when private companies are given such responsibilty. From what I have read the security they did get were little more than kids - and not properly checked out either!

I had a conversation yesterday about how lax the checks on those wanting to sign up would be.

That is because private companies dont give a flying fart about anything but the profit. rolleyes.gif

Definitely the case with this company. It beggars belief they've had all this time to sort it. I wonder if they were the cheapest ones!

Not sure if I heard right on the news but I think the security company have sent out uniforms to people not vetted, meaning any Tom, Dick or Harry can don them and do God know's what!

Also I think it was said less senior government members knew of the security problem before senior members did.

Then a 45 min trip for Olympic partakers from the airport took 4 hours instead of 45 mins because the driver's sat nav didn't work properly.

Anyone coming in to take part or see the olympics - Welcome to wacky England and some magical mystery tours. It'll be full of surprises, I promise you pjr-laugh.png

The problem is, just how long has it been before some one decided that it was/is an issue? How many people of suspect have been granted triple A access? How many people have had the opportunity to smuggle in component parts to put together an explosive devise and lets face it, it need only be the one to cause complete mayhem? And how many uniforms have been sent out to all the Tom, Dicks and Harrys?

Unfortunately, it’s the dicks that have been running the security so far. Just another side affect of privatisation.

Exactly ...its a total mess.

I am glad I dont have any interest in the olympics but I do fear for those who will be there.

I pray nothing happens.

Same here, Cam. It's a shame for the organisers and players who have done their jobs well to be let down by those who haven't. It happens everywhere but in this particular case it's too risky for mistakes to be made. Like Ron said, it doesn't take much for mayhem.

I just hope it goes safely if nothing else.

To be honest with you, and it's probably a good job I'm not a huge sports fan, but I wouldn't want to be too near any of the events. That is how much faith I have in the secutity (as it stands at the moment) unless I coud be 100% assured that it is safe.

But, I for one am happy that the military are there in force and just pray they have arrived in time! smile.gif

Yes, I agree. I am glad I don't live nearby. Maybe the army taking over is the best thing really. Definitely safer with them there than not ninja.gif
