With the new rise in prescription charges will people stop taking their meds?
Its something that could well be happening. I take nine pills a day and I am so lucky I am exempt otherwise I simply could not afford them. |

I agree it's getting very expensive, and what was the governments reply to the criticism. Over 90% is subsidised, well what about those that have no help. Those on £6.08, Minimum wage, per hour, struggling to make ends meet. Is it food on the table or medicine?

I'm exempt too, due to my condition, so I'm very lucky. I was listening to a pharmacist the other day saying that he's had people who need three items asking which one they could best leave off as they couldn't afford all three. He said it put him in an impossible situation. How could he make that decision for them?

It must be awful not being able to afford medication.
Another side to this I've seen though is what must be huge wastage of money. My mum and dad both take a lot of medication - and I mean carrier bag full when we collect the lot. However, some medications they have stopped taking or changed and although they keep telling the staff they keep getting medicines they don't need. I wonder how many other people have this happen. Must be thousands across the country. Some people might not take them back to the chemist so they just go out of date. But I'm sure I heard that any medications given out that are taken back, even if unopened have to be ditched. Anyone know if this is true? It makes me wonder overall how much money is being wasted because of lack of management of medication. |

ooer..I knew that we are asked to return any unused medication.I took that to mean that apart from them disposing of them safely they could use those not opened.
