As the title...do you smoke tobacco products..cigarettes et al.

If not have you ever?

Have you ever taken illegal drugs, or smoked cannabis?

I tried Cannabis once, it nearly paralysed my whole body I couldn't move, frightened me to death, never touched it since.. nono.gif

I have tried to quit smoking several times but nothing works.Last attempt was with champix which did work..brilliantly..except I had to come off them due to severe stomach problems. rolleyes.gif I had not had enough to keep me going.

Next attempt...cold turkey..eek. pjr-laugh.png acae.gif

I used to smoke, I gave up four and a half years ago when I was diagnosed with severe asthma. I was watching a programme by that hypnotist...I have forgotton his name now; you often see him on the tele! Anyway, he was trying to help these people to loose weight and he gave them this thing to do which was nothing more than rubbing their thumb and index fingers together and saying "I hate crisps" or whatever it was they were trying to give-up. I did this every time I wanted a smoke and, it worked. I did this for two weeks. However, I will have a cigar on special occasions such as Christmas or sinificant birthdays. Well, we all have to have some weaknesses don't we!?

Going back many years, a friend of mine gave me a roll-up, I only smoked packet cigies at that time, but took it nevertheless. What I didn't know was that it was cannabis. We were in the middle of town on a night out so, I had already downed a few pints. As you might imagine, the stuff had an effect which my friend didn't expect...I froze! I stayed in the same position for about half an hour and frightened the life out of him. Then I just recovered and we went on with the night. He never tried that again. laugh.gif And I have never touched the stuff sinse. I like to be in controll of what I'm doing! smile.gif

I smoked cigarettes from age 16 to 40 and then moved on to slim cigars and finally stopped altogether 6 years ago and never looked back.

Dont miss them at all. ( My mother smoked for 40 years and finally stopped about 10 years ago - but she says she could still die for one sometimes - I'm glad I'm not like that !

A doctor once asked me if I smoked after making love - I said "I don't know, I never looked".

I'm here all week.

I also used to smoke cigarettes, I gave up loads of times ..once even for 5 years and a very stressful situation had me reaching for the fags. It was gonna be that or alcohol and I don't like the taste of that.

Each time I restarted it was even more difficult to stop. Cost didn't factor into it because I live in Spain and up until this year Ciggies were about 20 euros for a carton of 200 so no financial incentive to stop there.

In the end I stopped because I got a horrendous sore throat that just wouldn't go away, they had to perform a biopsy to discover what was going on, and fortunately they found nothing to be of any great concern. It frightened the life out of me and I stopped cold turkey. That was 3 years ago...and although I don't generally miss it from day to day...and tbh I cannot stand the smell of them on smokers when they pass me now.....(embarrassed now that I smelled like that)...I still champion the rights of people who want to smoke, and because I've put on a lot of weight since I gave up smoking which I cannot shift, and if it wasn't almost certainly going to kill me I'm sad to say I would start again tomorrow.

The latest on non smoking from New York is that people are not to be permitted to smoke in open spaces such as parks etc. Now that's taking things way too far IMO...!

I have to agree here. Whilst I no longer smoke, I refuse to become a 'reformed smoker' one of those who set out to condemn all who still smoke. Sure, I know it's not nice, I know it smells awfull and I'm more than aware of the harm it can cause. But, is it not an individuals right to smoke if they choose to? We are too keen to ban things in this country as soon as there is an outcry about it. There has to be a cut-off point somewhere or anything that is classed as enjoyment or recreational will be outlawed! My sister-in-law lives in Australia and whilst over here on a vist and in a pub for a drink, she said that she feels British pubs have lost some of their identity because the smell of smoke has gone! She doesn't smoke and never has. I remember many years ago, pubs used to have 'smoke rooms' where people would go to smoke; and this, long before it became an anti social thing. I will go along with the ban in pubs, because it helps me as an asthmatic but, to ban smoking out in the open is going a bit too far in my opinion. smile.gif

Appologies if I have offended anyone here, it's not my intension. laugh.gif

By the same score, I think to light-up in a pub now would feel just 'wrong'!

I'm an ex-smoker and I gave up because I was worried a bout an issue I had, and it stinks, and makes everything else stink as well.

There are some people I know who smoke - some with diabetes as well - who I wish would stop. I notice also - it happens to be mainly in women - that they eventuality develop smoking wrinkles round the mouth, which ages people somewhat.

The only reason men don't develop those mouth wrinkles as smokers is because they shave daily. It exfoliates the skin and takes the top layer off every day, and they also have the option of growing a beard.

I totally agree Pubs have lost their identity now, but I also agree that smoking shouldn't be allowed in there or any closed in space. I'm not asthmatic thank God but my daughter & s-i-l both are and they have never smoked...but I find myself now when abroad and sitting amongst smokers in enclosed spaces it makes me choke.

When I first moved to Spain 6 years ago you could smoke anywhere, and I mean that. In the supermarket , in school classroom, in the bars, even in the High court where we had to deal with legal documents etc...it was a smokers country.

4 years ago they brought in a ban, which was all but ignored except for the supermarkets. They then told bars that if they had a food area they had to block it off from smokers, and everything would be fine.

On January the 2nd this year Spain with only 4 weeks notice banned smoking in every public place, Bars included, and at the same time raised the price of cigarettes up by 40 or 50%.

Fortunately for smokers, it's quite comfortable to sit outside a bar in Spain and smoke...unlike here in the UK!

I suspect the reason is that men tend not to perk their lips when smoking. Never the less, it shows up on women and you can tell a middle aged woman smoker with out seeing them smoke. tongue.gif

I roll my own as well. biggrin.gif

Exactly jacktar

Why apologise for smoking? I despise alcohol and never touch it but I would never look down on anyone for drinking like we smokers are looked down on.

Agree with your sentiments lifesmate.....

I don't drink either...hate it....but I do not look down on anyone for what they want to do......

It is their choice......

Albeit sometimes it can be the wrong choice......

But who are we to judge one another...

Take care each and everyone on here.........
