The evacuation of residents near Japan's quake-hit Fukushima nuclear plant will be long-term, officials say.

Many of the tens of thousands of people evacuated from the area around the plant are living in temporary shelters.

The announcement came as high levels of radiation were detected for the first time in groundwater near one of the facility's six reactors.

Just goes to show how dangerous nuclear energy is.

I agree, Cam. This should be time to stop such reactors being built, and what we do have scrapped. I know that might sound not right to do for some, but there are safer ways to make the world go round. If a natural disaster can do this, it's simply not worth the risk.
Science is supposed to be clever, so I would tell them to 'sort it'. And sort it fast!

I feel sorry for those in Japan. As if the effects of the tsunami and earthquakes wasn't bad enough for them.
