There are wonderful books out there - literary giants. Books on moral values. Books of wonderful stories about man's constant battle with himself and his situation. But do you ever abandon the search for literary genius and just settle for something ... lighter? I do. My favourite guilty pleasure in book form is Georgette Heyer. She writes historical romance. Mostly set in the regency. Her heroes are upright, strong, manly and romantic. Her heroines are feminine, not always beautiful, clever and independent. He always gets his woman and she always gets her man. Right on!
The books offer an interesting glimpse into the life of the upper classes in England infused with a nice sense of humour. I love 'em. ![]() http://www.georgette-heyer.com/general.html |

Yes definitely...and I don't feel guilty about it either! Norah Roberts has to be a modern day Georgette Heyer from your description! Have you read any of hers?
I like Phillipa Gregory's books, Rosie Thomas, Kate Morton, Robert Goddard....I could go on. I even read chick-lit at times. |

Hmm. Are you saying that light reading implies a 'down'? |
