My Mum was seriously ill with cancer through most of my childhood and my dad is not exactly the best cook in the world, but he reminded us last week of a really quick stew he used to make

2 tins stewing steak
tin carrots
tin peas
tin of potaoes
packet of dry soup for extra taste

all he did was mix it together and serve it up... apperntly we loved it!!!! pjr-laugh.png

what ever happed to fritters?

Sounds good! What flavour soup? My Dad first tried cooking a stir fry when my Mum left and we had no onions, but we did have a jar of pickled onions in the cupboard......

It does sound good Strafin - and so easy, too. I'd never have thought of putting a pack of soup in, I imagine it gives the stew a real added kick. Would it be Beef, Oxtail? Trace unsure.gif

I do a similar thing when in a hurry.Instead of just carrots I add tin of mixed veg.Usually use Minestrone soup that just gives an added twang to it pjr-laugh.png

My mother was a lazy cook.

She used to make us instant mash that had the consistency of custard puke.gif

My father spent a couple of years in India when he was in the armed forces, he brought home a wonderful curry recipe and I can honestly say that I was weaned on the stuff. The smell of a curry cooking reminds me of my father, I miss him terribly. sad.gif

I like the balti curries best. Had a mushroom curry last night, quite partial to that.
