Aaah, Cougnou! This lovely sweet bread (very similar in taste to hot cross bun, without the spices) is decorated with a pink fondant baby Jesus (and sometimes, even a brown fondant baby Jesus) to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

It is shaped like a baby too.

It is only sold in the December months, and either has large sugar "pearls" in it, or sultanas.

Yummy, so if anyone is coming to Belgium, don't forget to try it.

Sorry Bea - I didn't see this post. Now that sounds sweet in both meanings. I like hotcross buns, but not too many currents or sultanas, so I would like them :)
