Title: Arthritis

Gloworm - May 10, 2009 12:33 PM (GMT)
God I'm in agony T-issues

I have an arthritic thumb caused by it being ' double jointed ' also have terrible neck pain which really hurts when I'm on the pc.

I've been taking Glucosamine Sulphate and had run out of it - but didn't really think it helped.

But now that I've been off it for about a week I can really feel the difference - proving that it does help afterall V-ictory

Get back on the glucosamine quick as poss, Glo. I heard that's good - and olive oil too. I also heard certain foods make it worse - all fizzy drinks and some dairy products. C-omfort

Junius - May 10, 2009 01:43 PM (GMT)
I've been diagnosed with arthritis in my left knee and right ankle with degeneration. If I was a horse they'd shoot me.

By the sound of it you've spent far too long on your knees, Junius Chortle

Seriously though, is it oesteo or rheumatoid? Maybe you could try what Glo's doing along with any medication.

Hubby is having trouble with his knee and ankle but hasn't been to the docs as yet. We think he has what's called Planter Heel - he had it years ago and has found wearing an ankle support helps.

We'll go to the knackers yard together Junius 1together6

I usually take the combined tab of glucosamine and cod liver oil - I'll never run out again.

A couple of things that might help Glo are,

Devils Claw Gel applied to the joints is very good, Holland and Barrett sell a very effective one.

I am reliably informed that Rosehip powder tablets are also very good.
You can buy Rosehip Extract tablets 94mg from Tesco. however, it would seem a better option to use Rosehip Herb capsules 750mg that you can get from any health shop.

I take cod liver oil now and again. My dog has glucosamine in her food every day.She started limping a year or so ago, so we took her to the vet.He said it was to be expected as she's getting older, then suggested we gave her glucosamine. My friend also gives some to her dog, and pays about £80 for 3 months supply. The vet told us ordinary ones from the chemist would work, and by heck they have made a difference.I take them sometimes when my knees start to crunch, it really does help.I don't take anything for too long though, it's good to have a break from stuff like that, and vitamins too.

Gloworm - May 10, 2009 06:35 PM (GMT)
Thanks Hammer - I've heard of devil's claw though never tried it but I definitely
haven't heard of it in gel form. Will look for it in our health shop ( we don't have Holland and Barret in Ireland :( )

Good rub before going round the paddock eh Junius - might do us the world of good. The knackers yard can wait Laughing man

Thanks to you too PR - woof woof :D I think I'm at the stage where I will have to take these things on a long term basis - I've tried for years taking no notice and putting up with it - but the pain is getting worse now.

We all need to keep active too - back to the paddock Laughing man

You should be able to get it in a decent health shop Glo.

I have a friend who swears by the Rosehip stuff and he was only taking it for a short while before noticing a great easing of his joint pain.

He now uses both the gel and the capsules all the time. Wether it is in the mind or it really works I couldn't say but it is good to see him a happy lad again.

A relief of pain like this just couldn't be in the mind so I'll try them

............. watch this space - I'll report back. ( though I know the result won't be instant )

Thanks Hammer B-lowKiss

Did you kow that certain foods can make the arthritis worse? My mother in law was told years ago to stay off things like tomatoes as the acidity can make the symptoms worsen.

Shockhorror

OMG PR - I love tomatoes and have at least one a day.

pinkribbon - May 11, 2009 05:16 PM (GMT)
Sorry Glo.But at least you could try giving them a miss, see if your condition improves. :(

Archangel - May 11, 2009 06:32 PM (GMT)
Keep everything moving, no matter how much it hurts. Remember, use it or lose it. If it's in your hand then keep moving it, squeeze a ball but keep the movement going. I'm not a pill popper, I hate the very idea but cod liver oil capsules are okay, they ain't pills.

A diet including oily fish is good too.

Hope all you stiffies get some relief pretty soon.

Gloworm - May 11, 2009 09:54 PM (GMT)
Well I didn't have a tomato to-day and I've been to the shop and got a good supply of cod liver oil tabs along with the glucosamine, have to go to the health shop for the others Hammer, Himself indoors will nip down on his Bonny for them.

That's a good phrase Archie - ' move it or loose it ' I'll remember that.

Though after working for 8 years in the Alzeimers unit in one of the Dublin hospitals I know how important it is to keep moving.
