Title: Windows scam again
sherry - March 12, 2012 04:53 PM (GMT)
Hi Just putting this in here. I've put it in chitchat but not everyone reads it. Don't want anyone to get caught out.
Right - I've had another phone call from the WINDOWS SUPPORT SCAM. Even after my rant only a few days ago.
This time the caller found me in pleasant mood. I calmly asked why he is wasting his time calling me as I know he's part of a scam. He still continues to tell me the danger my pc is in and asks me if I have it on. I tell him no, I haven't and ask how he can possibly know anything about my pc. He says, Look ma'm, I have your windows id number here. If you don't do as I advise you pc could crash in the next few days. I told him they've been telling me that for several months and it's not happened yet. I added that it's costing him money keep phoning me as there's no way I am letting him into my pc. He still carries on as though I've said nothing.
So I tell him my mum had a call whilst I was at her home with someone saying the same things he's told me about her computer - only she doesn't have one and never has. How can you explain that? He went quiet for a few seconds and then continued as though I hadn't said anything. So I repeated again - several times. He ignored it. He asked me to turn the pc on and he would show me he was telling the truth. I said, no you aren't and no way am I letting him into my pc.
He then asked --- How old are you
I said, 'I'm not telling you that - you should never ask a lady her age'
He went quiet a few seconds and laughed. I said, 'Bye and put the phone down
There's no way of stopping these people phoning up. I've tried everything from shouting to cross examination. Now I've had a laugh with him. Wonder when he'kk ring again. Reckon I'll just keep him on the line and say nothing till he hangs up.

Just cut it short with a 'you're lying, I have an Apple Mac' they tend to hang up quick at that point. I've not had another call since then.

Ask them if they are affiliated to Microsoft. I did and they said they were.
I told them I wanted their details so I could check with my Microsoft Account manager.
He hung up ....

Well, surprise, surprise I got another phone call today. In fact he worded it differently. I'm sure he said Microsoft technical department. He has said Windows technical department before.
Anyway I said I don't have a computer. He said - You don't have a computer?
I said, I haven't got one. The line went dead  Think I've cracked it. But unfortunately as there are so many of these tricksters about I reckon I'll keep getting the calls. Always sounds like the same bloke but doesn't have any recollection of ringing me before
