Hello,my name is Clemmy (short for Clementine) they named me that up at Battersea Dogs home.
I was there for about six months,my old owners turned my sister and I out onto the streets of London and we were picked up by the old dog wardens.
I was very thin, and infested with all sorts of things, and I felt quite poorly, and sad.
Then one day I got released and sent down South to my new mum and dad...
Boy!! was I pleased..... trouble is I didn't like strangers much at all,and I trusted no one.
I really wanted to trust and be happy, but I couldn't....not at first.
I have been ill treated you see,in the other home.....but I don't want to go there...don't want to think about it any more.....
My new owners are great...I can see they love me,and I have grown to love and trust them.......I have all the comforts and great meals etc....I get lots of cuddles, great walks/runs, brushing.and tickle tummy's.....but I still cannot trust anyone else/strangers outside,or even them coming into my new home.....is it because I think they are going to take me away.....or could it be them..(the old owners come to take me back) !!
I run and hide till they have gone......
But hey,let me show you all a pix of me....then another day I'll tell you more with other pix.

I am a bit shy....so please be patient with me. See you next time you call in.. h-i-d-e

OMG T-issues Your story has brought tears to my eyes :( But how wonderful to have a loving home at last 4d544553 B-lowKiss A big hug and a kiss for you Clemmy f-lowers And even flowers
Bless her - she is beautiful Caro. I can see she has some lab in her but not sure what else - she has one of those expressive faces and I can't make my mind up if she has great dane or boxer features  I know they are completely different looks but it's hard to tell from the angle of the photo. Whatever she is lovely. I look forward to seeing more pics of her :)

Apologies, Clemmy and Caro  I have just read 'Anatolian Shepherd'
Now that's a breed I have never heard of
voice - February 6, 2011 05:02 PM (GMT)
A lovely dog. I will say the dog is very articulate... let us hear more.
caro - February 6, 2011 05:24 PM (GMT)
Thanks voice and sherry......Clemmy's breed Originates from Turkey...
(Google Anatolian Shepherd ).....but she was born here in England.......her sister Poppycorn didn't make it at the kennels in London...she was found to have cancer in the stomach...and was sadly put to sleep, there was nothing they could do for her... T-issues

Oh, she's a big girl and I can see the shepherd in her now in these close up photos.
Nothing like a lab or the other breeds I mentioned :ph43r: Sorry Caro
She reminds me a bit of our dog in the last photo.

Our Clemmy is so frightened by even the sound of my camera being switched on or off...I have to do it out of the room or where ever, so as she cannot hear it,and take my chances......

I love this one,although thin,she looks quite majestic imo.....like a lioness almost.

There's a definite likeness in some photos to Merlin. It's strange as Merlin can look quite different in each photo as he has an expressive face, which looks to be the same for Clemmy.
There are several pics in here of Merlin  As the older members will know  I'll see if I can find one...........
Oh - he's german shepherd supposedly crossed with border collie, but people often ask if he's leonberger

Another of my favourites of our Clemmy. She loves this spot on top of the stairs,I know it's wrong of her to do this...but she does move when told to...

Sophie...my little Shadow,I say this because she followed me everywhere, where ever I was, there she was.....she passed on last April...I miss her so much...but I promised hubby the next dog would be his choice....hence our Clemmy..hubby loves large dogs....but we both adore our Clemmy,so that was a good choice....although I can't walk her ,she is too strong for me..although she is a gentle walker.
Sophie and Ben are both buried in our garden...

Before I had this dog (Gilly) I had another one - called Trixie - and she passed away when the two girls body's were found (Holly and Jessica); that is how I remember it. I think that was about 2001.

Clemmy is gorgeous Caro, and I so admire you for taking on a rescue dog. We used to foster rescue dogs years ago, and some of the stories were heartbreaking.
I love big dogs, and my nursemaid (because she clings to me like glue when I am not feeling well) is a Dogue de Bordeaux (French Mastiff), Ludo
sherry - February 7, 2011 11:06 AM (GMT)
The small ones were so cute and obviously very loved. All our dogs have been medium to the large size so I don't have much experience of the small ones. What I want to know is - are they easier to look after
I met up with a couple who had a Jack Russell some time ago and they said they'd always had German Shepherds before, and they were quieter and easier to control than the small one
I remember this picture of Ludo , Joliee. She looks very loving and loyal as well as having that gorgeous warm colouring - a cuddly dog!
I don't think we could have a more faithful friend than our dogs, Voice. Having said that, Merlin didn't seem very bothered when he pulled me over last year year - just carried on sniffing the grass whilst I lay nearly comatose on the floor Chortle
Caro - we fed Merlin the Burns dried food for about 8 months, then he went off it and wouldn't have it at any price. We even brought the tinned meat - which was so expensive Shockhorror but it didn't interest him for long. His coat was beautiful whilst he was on it though. It's a good product. Since then we have tried all sorts with him. He gets bored easily with food. Right now he's on a mix of Chappie complete and tinned Pedigree chum, which is suiting him better than anything he's had since the Burns. His coat is really silky and glossy so I'm hoping he'll stick with it.
Will you tell us the story behing Rainbow Bridge, please?
The dog we had before Merlin was called Bracken. We had his mum before him and he had several breeds in him we don't know of, but he did have german shepherd and Doberman in him. He was never any trouble, so well behaved and never ill apart from the old age that took him. But what I was trying to get to say is, I actually saw him a few weeks after he was put to sleep. It was totally out of the blue - he was just there, completley solid and right in front of me, sat looking up.
For a second I forgot he was no longer with us and began to tell him to move so I could close the fridge door - then I suddenly realised and said, 'Oh Bracken', but he was gone again. It was only for a matter of seconds but he was definitely there. I had been as close to our other dogs but he is the only one I have seen come back. Also, he looked younger, a picture of health and his fur was a really rich, deep red - more so than in life. I suppose I could say he looked radiant :)

Joliee Hello, W-ave
Ludo looks adorable.....have just sat and listened to the music from Rainbow Bridge and had tears again for the loss of my little shadow, Sophie last April.
As I said above she followed me everywhere...was always beside me,when I was up sitting in my swing seat in my shady nook in the garden she would sit beside me and fall asleep with the motion of the gentle swinging of the seat.
Even though we have our beautiful Clemmy Sophie will always be beside me in that seat, when ever I sit there now.
I put a white rose bush on top of her resting place from a pot when we filled in her place, with soil, and through last summer it never stopped blooming till the autumn.
When It starts to bloom again this summer I will take a pix and put in my garden hobby thread when I start it on this site. In fact I do have a pix of it from last year,I will start off the thread with that pix later this week.
Take care.....

George sadly got lost last year when some people were visiting us, and we haven't seen or heard from him since T-issues

OMGoodness, that is awful joliee, how very sad..was he not chipped, ?
I wonder where he is, I bet you miss him dreadfully...
I am so sorry.
You know its sad really, when we wanted our Clemmy from Battersea, the woman said there, that not many people take the large dogs like Clemmy, and your George.
Lots went to see Clemmy, wanted her, then changed their minds, and poor Clemmy was left unwanted ,sad and lonely.
As I said at top of the thread, she does not trust people...it took her ages to even approach us..she had been so ill treated...our hearts went out to her...I have never seen hubby love a dog as much as he does our Clemmy...and she's worth it.
She now lays on the floor for a tickle tum,and tosses her twisty bone over her head, she wags her tail now also, which is wonderful for us to see that she is happy with us. Hubby takes her to a large closed in compound and lets her run free, and all the other dogs chase her,but never catch her...she loves to play with other dogs...its just people she will not tolerate.
She is a soft and loving dog, with a beautiful heart....
How could anyone ill treat such a beautiful dog...any dog for that matter.
I feel for your loss joliee.....Take care, thank you for dropping in. :).

Love that photo of your hubby on Clemmy Laughing man The expressions on her face very much remind me of Merlin's. I wish we had places we could let out dogs off lead and run around without being able to get out. We won't let Merlin off manyplaces as if he sees another dog he'll be off to play with it, and they don't all want to play. They go on the defensive when they see him coming at them and have a go at him.
Joliee - I have often wondered about George as I didn't get all the story when you told us about him here when he went missing. It must be so hard to come to terms with, but miracles happen, you never know B-lowKiss

George wasn't chipped, but as most of the pounds over here don't have chip readers then its only if your dog is taken to a vet that the chip comes in handy. He was, however, tagged on his collar with 2 different registrations, the local council one and a national dog register.
We still think that someone must have decided to keep him. Being such a large dog, he was good for a guard dog, although with his personality he wouldn't have hurt a flea!
