Uh.. I'm not against yaoi but I'm not really happy with it.. hmmm.. I feel uneasy.. and a little terrified. So.. Seems like some of you like it.. Can you tell me why? There are a lot of mangas about it and it looks like its recognized properly as well. sooo.. hehehe.. yeah.. that's it...

I like it because of the characters. The guys in manga are usually more outspoken and sarcastic than the girls so while I like regular manga I kinda prefer yaoi.

lol why is this thread so empty still?
Hmmm, well, it's preference, I guess. Other than obviously liking two hot guys together - the dynamics between the couple feels different. Depending on the mangaka, that is.
Some- Well, actually a few too many make yaoi terrifyingly unappealing with the over-the-top emphasis on seme-uke stereotypes;
Uke: "NOOOOO, what are you doing?! S-stop touchi-" Seme: "NO = YES; GET TO IT, DARLING~ <3" Uke: "WHAT ARE YOU-" Seme: "I'll hit you. And you'll like it anyway. *insert dirty talking*" Uke: "Uwahhhhhh - ok. *gives in far too quickly*" *pr0n ensues*
Me: "D8< what. Uke-chan~ BE A MAN. Ditch that b-" cough
Yeah.
But there are mangaka who do it well, ^ becomes epic comedy for one thing lawl.
But it's more than er, pr0n. There's the fact that with social views towards male couples make this romance a little more difficult - and how it affects them and how they get pass that. And personally, for some reason, it feels more... special and dramatic when they've built up their courage to confess. Idk, if I've seen more shoujo/josei manga that can build up the scenes and romantic tension like in yaoi, I might be less biased (pfftright) but so far, only a few non-yaoi/BL titles do that for me. (NANA being one)
I can't blame anyone for being terrified of yaoi though. I was plunged off the deep side of the pool myself on that account and I spent a good long time being traumatized. "CLOUD STRIFE. I-I thought Boys Love Manga was Boys(noun) Love(Verb) Manga(noun). So what are those men doing to you - *flips to next page* *all becomes clear, not just-face shots* ARGH. //end of innocence //BAD END" lol.
How the heck did I get over that? *ponders* ah, slower submersion via Kyo Kara Maoh, now I remember. I watched it, I laughed at everything, aw-ed over the adorable - then caught on slowly "Oh wait, so Wolfram really is a guy. This is not a gender bender. These are men in love! ...But it feels ok. I'm still in love with this anime :0" and yeah.
...I still don't like the "oooh let's torture the uke!"x infinity seme-types though. I don't think I ever will. xD
..Have I gone out of topic? :o

Not at all!!
Now I kinda understand. Its good to know someone's outlook on this. Personally speaking because I know how some ecchi things really goes, I can't just bear the imagination. Sometimes I downloaded a yaoi manga by mistake. I thought it was some romance thing because of the good and interesting title. Then as I read on my
-_- face slowly turned to 0.0.. I got stunned and I felt... OUCH! hahaha..
*shiverrrs* there are really a lot of people who likes yaoi, mostly girls of course. And aaaaaaaarrrghhh.. I really can't take it.. hahaha!

Hm, I'm not really sure myself. Honestly I never thought I would like yaoi. It's not that I have something against gay people, not at all (I think as long as you really love someone it doesn't matter who your partner is. It your choice who to love.) It's just that I thought the drawings will put me off or something. But I tried it once and I like it now pretty much. As to why..? Well I guess it’s always interesting to know the other side of the medal so to speak. And I like all the angst that comes with it as well. It's never easy to be different. Plus all the psychological aspects, inner turmoil... It's deep and complicated and difficult and sometimes heartbreakingly beautiful.
I love to read yaoi with plot and not just mindless smut)

Well the art is usually awesome...remember it's ALL hot guys and some of those yaoi mangaka can really draw men that are drool-worthy. I think I like it because it's romance that's a little more grown up and sexy than what is currently available for girls/women. Can you imagine a josei manga with those kind of sex scenes...sadly, they just aren't out there. (yes, I have a dirty mind...but I'm older and married so it's not exactly shocking to me). I do think it's broadened my mind about gay love though. I 'get' it better than I used to. I think the adultness of the themes allows for some really intense emotions too...I have cried over plenty of yaoi plots...assuming they weren't some gratuitous pornographic oneshot. There are plenty of those around too.

I never thought I would like BL mangas as well. Somehow got around to download it for the fun of it. Some storylines are really quite good as it develops the feelings of 2 men to confess to each other. Kyou kara maou is hilarious and has a really great story to it just a Boys Love kind of manga. For Yaoi mangas just be careful of the hardcore type. Not a lot of people can accept it. :)
