Plot

This land is a small island off the coast of Italy. It was once inhabited by the ancient Greeks, and then later conquered by the Romans. They built a small village there and lived happily. However, when Rome fell the inhabitants retreated and the natives left with them for fear of the native wolves who lived there. Ever since the island has fallen off the map and been erased from history. The island is still watched over by the gods and goddesses of the olden days, and each land is looked over by a certain god and godess. They are called the Canis Dominus, or "The Wolf Masters". They come down from the heavens themselves every now and then in the shape of a wolf to speak with the ancient inhabitants.

The night was dark as an abyss. Thunder rolled and lightning boomed above the world. The sudden glow would light up the rocky terrain, turning the smoky black stone to ghostly white in the flash. Clouds loomed dark gray, a slightly lighter shadow among the black. Small creatures huddled in their burrows, hiding from the onslaught. Rain pelted down upon the land, running in dark streaks as it made its way down the rocks to the bottom, pulled by the magic force of gravity. It hit solid, hard pebbles and boulders, but a part of it hit something different; something softer, smoother, more giving. It was fur, thick fur. Then another bolt from Zeus rained down from above, and the fur took form, not just a clod of pelt. It was dark gray, and moving. It was a wolf.

The Varg's back would normally be lighter than it was now, with the underside a light gray. The red-brown of the merge of the grays was a middle hue in the light. The head was dark, simple, small specks of light fur on the underside, where shadows from the jaw reached. The only part that could be seen in the darkness was the eyes: amber gold in light, yellow-green in dark. The mark of the true wolf, that runs freely, playing the part of true Putnar, hunting at will, for survival of itself and others. That lives in a family, caring for its and others' cubs like they were its own. Only this one would have ones of his own, for he knew, he knew, that he was the very first here. He could smell it, oh yes, but he could sense it as well. He was the only mortal here. There were others, of course. Hades and Persephone, God and Goddess of the Western Provinces.

He paused, sniffing the air, casting the dark rain-stained muzzle about for a scent, and finding none. Thorns flicked front, back, side, side. Nothing. Only the boom of thunder and slackening flash of lightning to alert his senses. Good. He needed to be alone for this. Taking a breath, his head rose, lips curling back from the maw, exposing flashing white pearls. Mouth opened, and the lips dropped again, forming an O-shape. Throat convulsed once, and a haunting song came forth, pouring from its hiding place in the wide gullet of the beast. To many, it was simply a wolf song, with no meaning. To those of his kind, the notes formed words, phrases, sentences. A plea, asking. A plea to the gods themselves.

“O Hades, Lord of the Dead, and Persephone, Queen of the Dead, I ask of you that you would allow me to lead, under your name and direction, the Menacing Mountains. Please show me if I am fit to rule, or if I am naught but a Sikla, destined to be under all forever." With the final notes, the song stopped, head down. Eyes narrowed, blinked, closed fully, in a silent bow, awaiting his master's arrival.

Persephone gazed down upon the large mountains that lay below her domain. If it were up to her, she would be in a happier, more welcoming place with her mother, but of course she had long ago fallen for Hade's curse, and was now destined to live here forever. Suddenly, a movement caught her eye and she peered down upon the intruding Dragga curiously. She listened attentively as the animal called up to her and Hades. So he wanted to rule the Menacing Mountains, eh?
She sent a small mental message to Hades, calling him down to meet the newcomer. She sent herself down slowly, letting her brown paws hit the ground softly and without sound. She lifted her maw to the heavens, cursing the storm and forcing the thunder and lightning to stop. A soft rain still fell upon the land, but her coat magically stayed completely dry.
The godess came upon the Dragga and sat before him, watching him curiously. "Hello," she muttered quietly. "I am the godess of these lands, Persephone. And who might you be?"

The dark God of the Mountains listened curiously to Persephone's call. So, a new Dragga had finally wandered into these lands? He traveled quickly down to the dangerously rocky earth and padded quickly across the mountains to meet where Persephone had already met the newcomer. He stood above the godess and let his golden eyes wander over the Dragga. "And I am Hades," he added, nodding slightly in greeting. "And what do you want?"

Head was cast about in wonder as the thunder and lightning stopped suddenly, leaving a slackening rain. No doubt the work of the god and goddess, most likely somewhere nearby. He would have to keep watch for them. As he stepped forward again, he saw another shape, much like his own, on a hill before him. Lips curled and skull lowered as the Varg leaped from the rocks and landed before him. Soon another one joined the first, coal black, with piercing amber orbs. He was about to release a guttural snarl when his eyes lighted on the faint divine glow surrounding the two. Charred lips lowered and head bowed in a flash as he made the connection. Eyes close tightly for a heartbeat, then opened with the rising of his crane.

"Forgive me, my Lord Hades and Lady Persephone. I am Dommic Shakiro, simply Dommic if you prefer. I come to ask for leadership of the Menacing Mountains, if you will allow it. I am willing to go through any tests you have set in place for would-be Draggas and Drappas." Perhaps he shouldn't have said the part about the tests. Hades was known to set mortals through impossible quests for something rather simple, which could only end with the Varg in question's death or otherwise destruction. Already he could see a slight glint in the obsidian brute's cold eyes, contemplating this new part.

The godess cocked her head slightly as she peered at the Dragga. "Tell me, Dommic," she muttered, "have you ever ruled a land before?" Persephone could tell that he had not, but he definitely had the capability to. However, she sensed must darkness in his past, and she didn't like it one bit.

While the godess was having second thoughts, Hades was smiling as his amber eyes gazed upon the lone Dragga. His dark past obviously showed that he had the strength and charisma to rule, so why not? He stepped forward, blocking out Persephone's words and muttered, "You've been through much pain already, Dommic, so I know you're strong enough to be an alpha, but the question is: are you capable to control your strength and let others rule prosperously below you? As god and godess of these lands, we want the population to grow, and soon." He grinned slyly as his eyes gazed undauntingly and intimidatingly at this newcomer.

Persephone sniffed angrily as she was pushed out of the way. She growled deep in her throat and moved back into eyesight. "What we need to know is if others will be safe below you. The last thing I need right now is more conflict." As she said this, she turned and glared at Hades, but he ignored her as usual.

The gray creature had to think upon their comments for a moment, before proceeding with what could be his end.

"You've been through much pain already, Dommic."
Clearly Hades could see through the flesh to the dragga's mind, noting his struggles and pain. He most likely saw the murders, too, of his own brother and leader. But they were good marks, weren't they? Of strength, courage, bravery. Willing to face the consequences of his actions. That had to be a plus, right?

"Are you capable to control your strength and let others rule prosperously below you?"
That could be tricky. His natural inclination was to kill any males he saw on sight, but cajole the femmes to be his mates. He'd have to put that aside, treat them all the same, to be a leader. Of course, he could do that until the pack was a good size, then go on with his habits. Without the dragga killing, of course. that'd be off-limits, unless one really got on his nerves or he fought with one. Then, the bloodlust would rage uncontrollably, until he'd slaughtered the creature that had challenged him.

"We want the population to grow, and soon."
Oh, it would, Hades. He'd make sure of that. Whether through newcomers, or cubs, preferably his, the population would grow. He wouldn't need to worry about other packs. He could always steal from them, if they ran short of drappas or cubs. That part would not be a problem.

"Lady Persephone, I have not ruled a land before, but was beta of the Balkar in my homeland. Six packs, entirely of fighting draggas, meant to protect the lands beyond the forest. I am not sure if that is enough, but I am sure that I would be a good leader. Hades, my Lord, I am quite confident that I would be able to put aside my wants and needs to make sure that the pack flourishes. Accepting all who come and are ready to follow my leadership. Only those too weak to withstand a life in the mountains would be driven out. All others welcomed. The other packs, when they come about, will be left alone until something truly devastating happens, which will not be brought about by me. I will search the Claiming Grounds often, looking for those who have no home, and offering mine to those who search. The population, if all goes well, will swell like the ocean before it breaks upon the sand, rising and growing in number, until we are a clan that you can be proud to have under your lordship." He finally stopped his speech, unsure of how the god and goddess would take his rant, but rather sure that they would recognize it as a sign that he'd put thought into his quest.

Persephone was still scowling, but at Hades, not Dommic. She nodded to the Dragga, but her sourness did not disappear. "If you agree to our terms, then I see no reason to dissuade you from claiming this terra."

Hade's smirk remained on his lips as he continued to size up the Dragga before him. "Well spoken," he muttered, referring to the Dragga's words and nodding as well. He took a step forward and added, "We'll be looking out for your progress, Dommic. I expect great things from you." Hades's smile grew teasingly, and then with a great gust of air and a slight cloud swirl, he and Persephone had both disappeared leaving the new alpha to his lands and himself.
