Jonno has informed me that Westcolour Graphics has closed down.

There is still CFL in Erina for slide film.

That's a pity.

Sorry to see Westcolour go.

However, Robert, the last time I checked with CFL they were no longer doing Slides and referred me to Vision Graphics - you can find them at http://www.visiongraphics.com.au

If you take slides to St Leonard’s it will be back the next day - at Redfern there is a same day service - about a 2 to 3 hours turn around. Last time I had some done I posted them in and received back in about four days.

There are a couple of other places, however thery are a bit dearer.

Even though I no longer shoot slides, I am also sorry that Westcolour has gone. They were "nice" guys and it is a great shame that yet another business has been made redundant by the march of "progress".
My second thought was "what is the future for slides within camera clubs? Not only our own small circle but what will happen to the "SLIDE" category for the Interclub comps?
There is no prize for guessing the answer to this question. It is rhetorical as we all know what will eventuate. The unknown is "WHEN".
Many (most?) of us have a collection of slides tucked away in boxes. I have a goodly number that date back to the 60's and 70's which was probably the high point for consumer use of slides. I believe that they were popular, not just because we could bore our visitors to death with the dreaded slide nights of our most recent trip but because they gave better colour than most colour prints then available and were "better" than the black and white images that we could get from the local Chemist shop. Especially when you remember that most of us were using cameras of some design that were one step up from the Brownie Box. And then colour print film technology surged ahead and that was probably the death knell of slides.
Of course, digital has been the hammer hitting the nails into the coffin.
Shame, but just as farmers are generally no longer using horses to round up the stock, a sign of the march of technology.
But still a shame.
However, I must get my collection of slides down out of the cupboard and have a peek at my previous life!!

Does this mean I have to find a magic lantern and some glass plates?
