CREDAI Kochi is a new face of the Kerala Builders Forum and it works towards the real estate development in Kochi. The developers and builders in Cochin are included in this forum. Besides their main functions of promoting changes and reforms, rationalizing duties and taxes, representing issues and proactive policies before the government and encouraging the development of new techniques in the field of construction, the group has also taken up many social initiatives.
One of their initiatives is the solid waste management. In 2007, when the garbage crisis menaced Kochi the idea of solid waste management germinated. With the high rise in apartments it became difficult to focus on health, hygiene and safety measures. It was at this time that CREDAI Kochi came forward with a far sighted solution of an eco-friendly solid waste management system to curb the crisis. A committed team was set up to execute the action plan and the necessary funds were raised. CREDAI Kochi implemented a trail action in some of the selected apartment complexes. The method of aerobic microbial composting system for solid waste management was implemented in the eco-friendly waste management technique. Awareness campaign is another initiative of CREDAI Kochi. With the aid of audio visual presentations an awareness campaign was initiated in many apartment complexes in order to enlighten the residents. In spite of the initial reluctance, the system gained wider acceptance for the unique social initiative. Today this scheme is applied in about 70 percent of the apartments in the city of Kochi. |
