Here's the strategy we used:

Party: PLD MNK THF/RNG BLM SMN BRD

Run in, buff up. I will Soul Voice at the beginning of the fight. Barstonra+Earth Carol should minimize damage from his spells and earth-elemental specials.

Mireille will Earthen Ward us initially, then keep Garuda out for the whole battle.

Fight normally for the first 10% of HP. Wait for me to Finale his Stoneskin before the initial SATA, or it won't do much damage. Wyrms like Ouryu have a tendency to Spike Flail if someone behind them gets hate when they have TP, so later in the fight do separate SA and TA, and Ulamine at least should stand on his front foot like at Fafnir.

I doubt Elegy will stick even with Soul Voice on (or Slow even with ES), and I think we should avoid DOT debuffs so we can Sleep him on the ground. Blind and Paralyze should be useful, though. Arolek will be main healer for most of the fight, but I'll help out as much as I can.

It looks like Ouryu takes off for the first time at about 90% HP, be ready to Aerial Blast immediately. This will pull hate onto Garuda, who can easily tank him in the air. While he's flying, Ryaa can hit him with ranged attacks. While Garuda is tanking, the rest of us should stand back to avoid all the AOE pain.

Two Aerial Blasts will bring him down to about 70% and force him to ground, where he will quickly kill Garuda and Ales will take over tanking again. At this point we Sleep him (Lullaby, wait 20 secs, Sleep II) and recover HP/MP, then do a 3rd Aerial Blast just before Astral Flow wears off.

At this point (~60%) Ulamine, Arolek and Alesander 2-hour, and Arolek starts casting Freeze, leaving Mireille and me to handle healing. Freeze and Hundred Fists should be plenty to bring him down to 30%, where he gives up. When he takes off again (~50%) Ryaa uses a Mistmelt quickly to make him land.

--------------------------------------
and my observations:

Total damage: 6283
Garuda: 2460 (39.15%) -- most of which was 3 784-damage Aerial Blasts
Ulamine: 2085 (33.18%) 72.41% acc
Arolek: 828 (13.18%) -- Freeze for 680, Aero II for 148. Mostly he was being main healer.
Ryaa: 512 (8.15%) -- it seems like Ryaa wasn't meleeing except for SATA. Ryaa, being /RNG doesn't mean you can't use your daggers, too...^^
Alesander: 326 (5.19%) 77.78% acc

It seems like Carol+Barstonra did help with the AOEs; Alesander almost entirely resisted Geotic Breath (22 damage, rather than the 700 I've read about it doing). We also usually took 60% damage from his Stonega IIs.

I thought that we had also resisted Bai Wing, but looking more carefully at the logs I think that was the effect of Stoneskin. Garuda did resist (60% damage), which fits with other people saying that it's an air-elemental move. I still think earth resist is the better option, since most of his attacks are earth-based.

When he landed due to damage he used Touchdown, for 109-140 damage. Either none of us resisted it, or we all resisted it at the same level; I think the variance is from Shell and Magic Defense Bonus. Garuda took 140, the three /WHMs took 109, the others took 120. He didn't use Touchdown when we forced him down with Mistmelts.

The other WS he used was Absolute Terror.

He does instant-cast Stoneskin which is important to Dispel/Finale; it ate all of Aro's first Freeze before I Finale'd it. He started casting Slowga once, but was interrupted.

Lullaby and Sleep stuck consistently (5 times), and were handy for getting HP/MP up.

Arolek stuck Silence the first time, but later it was resisted twice. Slow and Elegy were resisted, as we expected.

I mostly had Madrigal on the melees, which seems to have been the right choice with Ulamine eating meat.

We ended up using two Mistmelts.

Garuda tanking worked well, except that Alesander pulled hate back with a Provoke and some cures. Fortunately the second Aerial Blast was ready soon after.

Couple of my notes

Ranger, White Mage, Black Mage, Summoner, Paladin, Dark Knight.

Stoneskin was not a bother, litterally tore through it in seconds (waters day btw), between the dmg that Rangers barrage and WS + the Darks tearing through it it dropped in seconds. We did fairly good at resisting his spells, only had to sleep the monster once. Zelfire our black mage, had 94 int (he said he was going for pimp) and non of his spells were resisted freeze did 816 damage. The only time we got in trouble is when the dragon took off and did his breath attack. Only Ravane took damage, but it was a whole WHOLE lot about 650 dmg total. But my benedict (which didnt get stopped by invincible) fixed that. The summoner as you suggested only got one of her two hours off, we had to break in the middle to get mp back, but she helped me heal and it was all good. We used the HNM dragon strategy where everyone hides under the left or right wing while the paladin stands directly between his feet. This makes it so everyone can grab mistmelts whenever need be, and keeps everyone out of all the AOES except stoneaga II.

Ps. we identified every dragon that was there they all map to HNM dragons in game

::Copied from This run ::

I just want to put out a big thank you for those who helped. To me this seems to have been the hardest fight yet though I know some that come after can prove to be a formidable challenge to that. On that note, I would like to point out my experience as a Thief for this fight because I had a few questions myself when preparing.

My first plan was to set myself up with acc/racc gear like Woodman’s and Jaeger rings, Drone earrings, and hume RSE shoes. This worked well for my plan and I was satisfied with my ranged accuracy. Only times I really saw much in the way of missing was when he blinded me. This could have been easily remedied if I had brought eye drops. I stuck with my attack dagger, Corsair’s, so that my melee dmg was at least doing something and my cyclone dmg was decent at around 90-100 points. Food was squid sushi.

The opening SATA Hide did not work all that well unfortunately, but not for the reasons I had expected. First time the tanks position in relation to the mob did not allow me to be in range. Do to the mobs large size the range at which I could melee was very small so by standing behind someone I was effectively out of range. I did ask the tank to try to be closer but this proved to be fatal because as I was lining up Ouryu spun around a little and when I did land SATA decided to use spike flail sad.gif . If you can setup fast enough and not have Ouryu agro someone other than the tank in that time it would probably work, however the risk seemed too great to try another time. Last thing to try I guess is to just do a SA Hide from the front. Damage wouldn’t be great enough to pull hate from the tank, only 120 by my estimate, and would add a little spike from the start.

Last thing I was thinking about was the matter of the gun. I found my range accuracy was good enough for the possibility of a gun being used for this fight. Eye drops would be needed to keep the misses down when he blinds everyone. Though there is also his slowga and the need to use melt quickly could rule out the slowness of the gun.

I would just like to add an annotation and say that COR sleep is very strong in this fight. As long as he's on the ground COR sleep (light shot) was very effective giving use a minute at a time to rest and regroup. Even if he did wake up before we were ready the shot would usually be ready to put him back to sleep again.

So if you ever run into this fight and have a COR available, it's something to think about.

Wish I could have done this fight properly, as it seems really fun.

On my run, it was the usual sleep + nuke then two hour the hell out of Ouryu so we could all go back to sleep. ; ;
