Hey!
Glad you could join us. I'm Crystal, and this is the down and dirty guide to getting a fully registered character at Hexing Hogwarts, plus a few tricks on how to get yourself completely involved in the roleplay.
But we'll start from the very beginning!
Questions...You're probably going to have a lot of questions before you register, maybe there's a few things you don't understand, or would like cleared up. I'd suggest you take a really good look through our
Rules & Information forum, because not only does it hold the sacred laws of Hexing Hogwarts- it's also got some great information on things that can be done here. But if that fails you, do not fear! We've got a special
Help Me! forum in
The Welcome Centre just for those sorts of questions!
Don't be afraid to ask about anything, cause there are no stupid questions - just people too afraid to ask.
Registration... Most important part, is you creating your account. We recommend you do this pretty early on, because if you do have a problem you don't wish to discuss on the boards - you're then able to send questions to Admin and myself via PM. We do ask that you register under the first and last name of your character, and try not to take the same first name as any other character on the board. It just makes life simpler for us.
We have four types of characters.
Students are obviously the characters which attend the school, and are roughly 11-18 years of age.
Professors [/B are the characters who teach the students, and can be anywhere from 23 years of age and up. [B]Residents (or Adults) live in the towns , and aren't necessarily magical at all. They can be any age - and can own shops or whatever takes your fancy.
Visitors are characters which could be family or friends of other fully registered characters on the boards, and are only played little bits at a time to help storylines. Please note that to have a Visitor character, you must have a full character as well.
Applications & Introductions... We all know that the applications for HH are not small, but believe me when I say that it does help to understand your character, and for everyone else to have a good idea of what they are like. Don't be offended if we need to ask for adjustments, because this is an Intermediate-Advanced board, the requests are there to assist you in creating a bio which is balanced and realistic. Sometimes we will ask for edits if your character sounds very similar to another character we have, so please be flexible. We do have a policy that states we can't completely refuse an application - which means that we can request changes that will allow you to be accepted into the roleplay, but we
can't flat refuse without reason. While you're doing your application, you might want to pop into our
Introductions forum, and introduce yourself to the waiting crowd. We look forward to seeing new members, and I'll vouch they've been watching you cruise about HH, and they want to know who you are! Don't worry, they're a friendly bunch!
We try to get to applications as soon as possible, and at this point in time they're done on a same-day basis. Don't fret if it takes a little longer, it will get done.
Playing... So, by this time - you've got a registered and sorted character. What now? Well, this is the part where most people get lost. But we've got some resources there to help you on your way!
Splotting is HH's official plots forum, where you can create a storyline for your character, and get others involved. If you've got something specific in mind, you can put up a request for other characters to join you, or add yourself to someone elses plot.
Splotting also has a list of
Open Posts Available, so you're free to throw your character into anything that's listed there. It also advertises some openings for characters that other members would like to see on the boards, you might want to check those out too!
The Academy of Graphics is the home of HH's image making services, and you can request custom signatures and avatars there. The work is brilliant, and well worth a look!
So there you go, and I hope that helps. If not, remember our Help forum is in the Welcome Centre as well... I look forward to seeing you about the boards!
~~ Crystal.
