My nephew was born an hour ago so no detailed commentary on this one. I like the top panel but I kind of fail to grasp the meaning here. It seems almost as if Darin is talking through his memories though, as if to say his point is to demonstrate what Sam and Hiate already witnessed and that the scientist is trying to destroy them all. I only just realized Sam never really explained what happened up there to anyone, as far as I can remember.
"THERE WAS THIS CRAZY SCIENTIST DUDE AND THEN DARIN WHEN ALL SUPER SAIYAN AND I GOT TO HUG- I MEAN HELP HIATE. YEAH." Then he blew up the city. Damnit Sam. ... Snowy is still sexy. -------------------- |

I think this page represented a choice. I wouldn't call it a good choice or a bad choice, and not because it's a middling mediocre choice, but because I really don't click with the idea of reducing all the vast range of creative freedom down to a one-dimensional scale of quantity of "good". There are different things you can do and they might have a few objective pros and cons compared to one another, but in the main they offer something different, and I feel the choice this page stands for is such a case. The comic could have stayed tighter and faster moving at this point, or it could have slowed down and let the weight of things happening sink in, give us time to properly bask in the atmosphere of what's going on, rather than just understand the basic information. A choice was made, and some people might be more inclined to one style, more the other, but I think that any decent fan will recognise the freedom of the artist/storyteller's choice regardless of if it matches their own most ideal preferences. Personally, I prefer the choice made, as I can really immerse myself in stories to an intense degree, such that sometimes it does slow my writing down in pace a lot. But even if I didn't or if the other choice had been made, I'd still be supportive of it
Artistically, I love the panning shiny luminous blueish cast shot of the first panel, and I like the call back style of the red shards in the second, they look a bit more polished up than I remember -------------------- |

The band never had it explained to them, at the very least, especially since half of them weren't present for the event - Snowy and the kids were, and Mark arrived on Bobo at the very end. Aside from that, I figured that with all of the revelations regarding the mysterious doctor's actions and motives since these words were last said, they would hold a bit more weight to the reader at this point than they did then, or at least a different kind, so it seemed like an opportune time to get the band up to speed on their own primary nemesis.
That is exactly what this entire chapter has been. -------------------- |
