[Professor Luna Darani-Hamren]

"Professor Hamren." The Headmaster grinned his yellow, crooked smile at the school psychologist one evening. "I had hoped you'd actually be working, but since you're free, I have a few things to discuss with you. I assume there won't be a problem if we speak privately."

The man continued talking and slid into the office before Garrin had a chance to say otherwise and took a seat behind the desk, leaving Garrin with a choice of one of the student chairs in his own office.

"Luna submitted her papers for maternity leave today." He said, something in his tone revealing that he was less than pleased.

"Don't expect a raise, because you won't get one. I was of the opinion you had enough children. I was of the opinion you had enough children FOREVER. They certainly run you ragged here at school. They're little magnets for trouble, aren't they? Maybe the sorting hat will save us the time, and sort your youngest into detention." He chuckled to himself, rather amused at his own joke.

"I wasn't pleased with decorating job your sons bestowed on the whomping willow, you know. In my day they'd be hanging in the dungeons by their ears. Instead they'll be cleaning out the thestral stables with Hagrid, every week from now until they graduate."

"Why can't you control your children?"

Garrin's jaw twitched almost immediately, but he drew in several slow breaths, calming himself (he had become quite good at this over the years).

"For the very same reason, Sir, that no parent can control their children here at Hogwarts. I'm sure you're quite aware that mine aren't the only ones that wreak their havoc. So, instead of attacking me, why don't you consult their Heads of Houses, because the last time I checked, here at school, I am responsible for the discipline of only one of my children, as I am the Head of his House.

"Or, if you are now to hold each parent responsible for everything every child here does to break a rule, then why not do away with detentions and House points? Just write to their parents and blame them. God forbid we hold the students responsible for their own actions!

"You haven't any business at all of how I raise my children. Your only business is, and ever will be as long as you're Headmaster is how I do my job as Head of Hufflepuff House, and counselor of this school. So kindly, retain your professionalism, and you have my word, I'll do the same."

"That's wonderful, let's jump right in, then. I was rather hoping we'd get to the subject of how you do your job. I received from Head of Slytherin house, a rather nasty report regarding an incident between a Slytherin student and your very own Hufflepuff prefect in the Hufflepuff dorm."

"Your children aren't the only ones who get in trouble, Professor Hamren, but I can't say that we've ever had a family as large as yours in which nearly every member has been caught being inappropriate on campus."

"During the dorm inspections this morning, quite a few of them were in possession of rather unflattering items. I'm not this hard on our teachers, it's true, but you play an important role in the personal lives of these students and their mental health. After the laundry list of issues we've had, I was seriously considering letting you go. Your saving grace came in the form of Luca Sagebrook this morning, who burst into my office insisting that he had been responsible for contributing to the contraband and swore to me that you knew nothing of it."

"If St. Mungos wants to employ a man with those sorts of morals, that's their business, but as of today, Luca Sagebrook is no longer a Hogwarts employee."

[Garrin Hamren]

Garrin made a bit of a face.

"If I may be so bold, that's a decision you will come to regret. Half the student body is alive only because of Luca Sagebrook. But be that as it may, you are the Headmaster," he said, a soft sort of sadness in his eyes.

"May I inquire as to what contraband you are referring? And to address your previous remark, perhaps it is time for me to find a replacement prefect....someone who takes their responsibilities a little more seriously."

"Oh well, you know what sorts of things we usually find. Weasley products, alcohol, inappropriate magazines, drug paraphernalia."

"Luca revealed that he had been issuing contraceptives....I couldn't have that. And also, this...found in your daughter's trunk. Look familiar?" He asked as he waved the purple paper portfolio.

"A sonogram...Peculiar thing for a young lady of fourteen years to have in her possession. It's dated sometime last year...and was found under a stack of other baby things. Now, I was told that Kieran Greyback was responsible for this mess...yet all of the pages in the folder have Elijah Miles' name on them....some scribbled in his own untidy hand. I wonder why that is...and why it's here in school. Perhaps Lady Pearl can find out for us, hmm?"

"I remember how enraged you were with Greyback, so I took the liberty of peeking into Mr. Miles' file. Nearly sixteen....still enrolled in all forth year courses. Terrible attendance. Always in trouble. I thought it only fair since Mr. Greyback had to relocate even after being an excellent student to expel Mr. Miles. He's packing his things for the homebound train as we speak. At which point we shall render the broken fragments of his wand back to him."

"I see," Garrin said quietly.

"I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at here, Sir. So, lets back up a bit, shall we? Are you saying that if as a parent, I chose to let my daughter take contraceptives, that the school would still not allow it? It is my understanding that our students have the right to be on any prescription medication, provided that have parental consent. And how, pray tell, would you have justified firing me for a decision I had made as a father?"

"I' m saying that as Head of House, you knew your son, your prefect, had become involved with another student on school grounds, and you didn't report it. Even after the female student in question had taken her punishment. I'm also saying that no parent has ever come forward on the medicals form and stated that their children were allowed to have such devices."

"While I'm at it, I'll remind you that your daughter is still only fourteen years old. A little girl in so many respects. If she requires that sort of medication for recreational use, than that makes her claims against the male students extremely suspect."

"It's hardly any of your business, but my nephew has told me that Keely wants to be on the pill to prevent another pregnancy, were she raped again! My daughter is a victim, Headmaster. A victim of rape. You may not know this, but victims of rape often choose to be sexually active, as to gain back the power that was taken from them. I agree she is too young to be having sex, but if it makes her feel safe, I have to qualms whatsoever about her taking the contraceptive. She knows what her mother and I expect from her, but if you have half a brain at all, you'll know that no one can stop a teenager from having sex. And on to Cody, I punished him as I saw fit as Head of his House. I don't care to stamp a scarlet letter on every damn student that struts their stuff, and I sure as hell am not about to allow you to attack my daughter and question her virtue! Why not simply expel the lot of my children, and fire me and my wife along with it? We'll find other jobs quicker than you know. It pays, dearest Headmaster, to have friends who work in high positions at the Ministry of Magic. And in the same manner, Headmaster, it won't do you any good at all to be their enemy. Harry Potter...Hermione Weasley...have been watching your career with a very keen eye, and rest assured, they are far better at digging up dirty secrets than you could ever hope to be! NOW, kindly get out of my chair before I blast you out myself!" Garrin cried, his eyes suddenly flashing dangerously.

"There's no reason to fire Luna, as she chose to publicly and unashamedly punish her daughter for her prior actions. The students think highly of her, and arithmancy scores are wonderful."

"There's no need to expel them because there isn't a one of them that has placed below average in anything. Especially, Keely, who seems to be extraordinarily gifted in that respect. Nolan is a talented athlete, and until this year Cody had performed his duties as prefect as well as any other. But if you think your name or your friend's name is going to keep you from knowing when you've made a mistake, you might as well clean out your desk now."

"You're slipping, in your position here, Garrin. And your family is in crisis mode. I'm sorry if you're too proud to be told so." He said as he stood to his feet.

"My apologies, then, Sir. I promise. Things will change," Garrin said, his jaw tight as he gestured to the door.
