Bill sat at his desk and kicked his dragonhide boots under his desk. He hated giving detention but he knew he had no other choice. Roxy had forced him into it. The fight that started in Moaning Mertle's Loo had carried into the hallway and within his view. If he had let her go with a warning, the Slytherins would have thought he was playing favorites. He had no other choice.

Bill sat back in his chair, kicked his feet up on the desk and waited for Roxy. All the while...torturing himself over it. Looking over at his stocking feet on the desk, he realized his big toe was poking through the top. With a wave of his hand, the sock darned itself back together again.

After marching herself down to her uncle's office, Roxy gave a cleansing sigh, smoothed out her robes a bit, then knocked four times quickly on the door. Her side ached a tad where one of the girls managed a good swift kick, but it was well worth it to stand up for her namesake.

Bill really couldn't have been disappointed in her actions---Lou and James had done similar things in the past, and although they too had consequences, it was merely all procedure. If Roxy assumed correctly, her uncle probably didn't want to give her the detention at all. It was neither here nor there for Roxy---she felt what she did was right, and it didn't matter what sort of trouble she got into for doing such.

With the knock on the door, Bill quickly sat up and placed his feet down on the rug under his desk. Taking a deep sigh, he waved the door open. "Come in Roxy."

He pointed to a small desk nearby, where a fresh roll of parchment lay waiting for her. The ink well nearby was filled to the brim. Bill had no idea what he was going to have her write. He had thought of different lines throughout the afternoon but none of them seemed right.

"Hello...brought my quill, as requested," Roxy said with a slight chirp to her tone, as she fished out her quill from inside her Gryffindor robe.

She slid into the seat at the desk, and all of a sudden she felt a bit---odd, to be where she was. This was her first detention at Hogwarts, and really, she was used to getting into trouble, but that was only at home. Surely her father wouldn't care that her perfect school record was now blemished, but what would Angelina think?

"What am I to write?" she asked, sounding a bit timid and altogether unlike herself.

Bill still didn't know how to reply. "How about we chat first? I'm a little confused Roxy. I gave you a way out of trouble and you didn't take it. Why not?" Bill asked. He leaned back and casually kicked his feet up again.

"Listen, I'm not telling you to lie but I told you there was only one side of the story to be told and you jumped into trouble with both feet. I wanted to give you a chance to avoid this."

"Well...it's a rather stupid thing to lie about, isn't it?" Roxy started, looking a bit unsure herself.

"I suppose it's because I'm rather proud of what I did, and I wanted it to be known that I won't stand for our family to be talked about in such a way. And I---well---it's like it was with dad and uncle Fred...they left a legacy...everyone knows they were the two that created the swamp on the fifth floor. They didn't lie about that. They owned up to it. If I were going to lie, it would be about something more trivial...or something I wouldn't want others finding out about."

"The swamp was a different story Roxy, They created that when they quit school to open their store. They weren't facing any consequences because they were choosing to go. Also, Fred and George were not fighters. They had their rough times on the quidditch pitch but that was about it. They used humor and pranks to solve problems, not violence." Bill understood why Roxy was proud. He was, in a strange sort of way proud of her too.

"Ok, between you and me Rox...All you had to say was that the Slytherins were slandering your, I mean our family and that you were handling the situation the best way you knew . You didn't have to say that you threw the first punch! Why did you have to tell me that?" Bill leaned his head back and pulled his hair out of the way. "Merlin's Beard....Maybe you should spend some time with James? At least he knows when to stretch the truth to me!" He called out in frustration.

Roxy couldn't help but roll her eyes at what Bill was suggesting. She chose to not speak to the bit about James, as she really didn't care to risk being compared to any of her other family members.

"I told you I threw the first punch because I did throw the first punch!" she said, with a note of obviousness in her tone, shaking her head with her own mild frustration.

"I don't understand why you're so upset. Not all Weasleys and Potters are liars and swindlers, you know. Suppose I've got more of my mum in me than my dad, and I suspect it's the same way for Rose, isn't it?"

Bill looked up at Roxy with a genuine smile, not the flashy one used for show but a true, warm smile. "You do have more of your Mum in you. Sometimes I forget that." He knew that an argument about Weasley temperment would not be very productive. He knew in his heart that she was right and he was the one being difficult.

Bill stood up and walked around to the front of his desk, still in his stocking feet. He leaned onto his desk and crossed his arms. "I have to apologize to you. Earlier today in the hallway, I told you I was disappointed in you. I was wrong to say that. I was only disappointed at the thought of punishing you. I wanted so very much for you to wiggle your way out of it."

Bill waved his hand at the desk and it disappeared...parchment, ink, and all, leaving the chair that Roxy was still sitting in. "It would be unfair of me to punish you for telling the truth. You are absolutely correct. Not all Weasleys are swindlers and liars. Some of them are honest and sincere and beautiful."

Roxy looked curiously at her uncle, giving a slight frown of hesitation, then she shook her head a little.

"You're not making me complete the detention?" she asked, then she smirked and smoothly crossed her arms.

" I suppose the Slytherins only needed to see that you at least handed out the detention...far as they know, I actually did the detention too."

In response to his last words, Roxy's smirk faded to a soft, humble smile. "Thank you, Uncle Bill."

The corners of her mouth twitched, and her smirk was back. "But I might add, I do have my trouble-making streak running through my veins. Rest assured, there's been plenty of other incidents about which I've told bold-faced lies."

"Well...." He began to tease. "If you feel that lines maybe in order, I can always bring the desk back. " With a glimmer of sarcasm in his eye, Bill held his hand out at the ready, finger pointed towards the area where the desk had disappeared.

"Oh ha ha," Roxy said with a smirk, sarcasm in her eyes as well as she gave them a roll.

"I might add that most of these said incidents have taken place at home, or at The Burrow...and not here at school. It's one thing to get into trouble at home, with your cousins and siblings, but to risk getting chucked out of school, well, that's just stupid." She said all this with quite the serious look, although soon after her smirk returned.

"And on that note, I might add that if I were to get into trouble at school, I would ensure it were something to make my dad proud...something in the category of general mayhem and chaos," she said with another eye roll, her smirk growing as she gave a matter-of-fact nod, though she was mostly joking about the last bit. Still, the fountain incident a few months back came to mind---she was reasonably sure her uncle knew it was either she or Molly who had been the cause, but that was still nothing compared to the genius of Puking Pastilles and Headless Hats. Not that Roxy felt the need to live up to her father and uncle's reputation---in all honesty she only admired the skill and high level of magic that was necessary for such inventions sold at her father's store.
