Title: Professor Daddy!
Description: Keely wants attention!
Keely Hamren - August 5, 2008 02:50 AM (GMT)
Keely had been in Garrin's office before, but it had been the first time she met him, and it had been transformed into a make-shift dining room.
She was happy to be anywhere but school, which only added to her usual bubbly mood. She was absolutely delighted as she eyed the enormous bookshelf behind Garrin's desk. A new type of sudden respect for him emerged.
"Have you read all of these?" She asked in awe as she tried her hand at deciphering some of the long titles.
Garrin Hamren - August 5, 2008 02:59 AM (GMT)
"Ha...well...most of them," Garrin replied, sighing softly as he set his brief case down on his finely-polished cherry wood desk.
"To be quite honest, the rest of them are there to merely fill up space," he admitted, grinning.
"You might like some of them...I have the Chronicles of Narnia somewhere in there...but first we've got to get you to the eye doctor so that you can read," he said gently.
Keely Hamren - August 5, 2008 03:02 AM (GMT)
"Why are we here if I'm supposed to go there then? Headmaster won't mind if he knows it's a matter of eyes or death." Keely urged as she sat herself down in the chair left for students.
Garrin Hamren - August 5, 2008 03:11 AM (GMT)
A throaty snicker escaped Garrin's mouth, then he merley grinned in sheer amusement at the little girl. She was a constant source of entertainment in his life.
"Eyes or death?" he repeated, smirking and shaking his head. "You're too cute for your own good sometimes. And to answer your question, I'm going to send an owl to a doctor friend of mine. He's a muggle-born wizard...chose to stay in a muggle profession. I almost did the same. Anyways, he's an eye doctor...and he'll be able to give you a prescription. If I can convince him to come here, then we won't have to leave, and I won't have to put off my overdue paperwork."
Keely Hamren - August 5, 2008 03:22 AM (GMT)
"Fun..." Keely said as she re-tied her loose shoelace.
At the comment of late paperwork Keely suddenly felt very in the way of her dad. "Gee...I'm really sorry. I didn't realize it would cause you so much trouble." She continued to apologize.
Garrin Hamren - August 5, 2008 03:33 AM (GMT)
"Are you joking? I absolutely love the fact that I get to spend almost an entire day with my beautiful little girl," Garrin replied, furrowing his brow to show his seriousness.
"If Dr. Seeley can't come here, then we'll just go to him. Your my priority either way," he added. He pulled out some parchment, some ink and a quill, then began to write.
"And at some point today...there is a student here who is eager to meet you. If you're okay with it, I'd like to invite her to my office so she can do just that."
Keely Hamren - August 5, 2008 03:38 AM (GMT)
"Fine by me." Keely told him and pulled out a book to read. Nothing as complicated as some of Garrin's books by any means but definitely complicated for a girl her age.
"What all do you have to do today?" She asked, quite interested to here what her dad's job was like.
Garrin Hamren - August 5, 2008 03:51 AM (GMT)
"Well, that lovely stack of papers you see on your dad's desk," Garrin said, nodding to the papers, of which each piece was a bit crumpled, making the pile bumpy, "needs to be gone through...each paper has to be hand-checked for accurate dates, and some of the reports need to be rewritten for clarification. Then they need to be filed, but I can do that with magic. I also have to send out copies of a letter to parents, explaining the new policy Headmaster Weasley put into place, and oh, that's right, there's a staff meeting right before lunch. I'm not sure just yet where to stick you for that hour, but I'll worry about that later. I have a few appointments today, but not until after you leave."
He frowned for a moment---he could try to take Keely to the meeting, but it would be dreadfully boring for her. With a soft sigh, he attached the letter to Dr. Seeley onto his owl's leg, then sent her off. He expected Keely would see the doctor sometime after lunch.
Keely Hamren - August 5, 2008 03:58 AM (GMT)
"Well, like a big idiot, I brought a book to read." Keely smirked as she had realized long before this that she simply couldn't read it and so must resort to other methods of entertaining herself.
Garrin Hamren - August 5, 2008 04:04 AM (GMT)
Garrin smiled. "I realize the context of the situation, but don't call yourself an idiot, love, alright? Hmm...right...I do have a box of dolls I use for play therapy...and I can take a bit of time if you want to walk down to the lake, or see if there are any pets to play with in the Hufflepuff Common Room."
Keely Hamren - August 5, 2008 04:11 AM (GMT)
"I want to play with the dolls. Besides, this way I can play and I won't be distracting you. You need to focus on your work, I know you love me but we'll have more time together than if you keep putting it off." Keely suggested.
Garrin Hamren - August 5, 2008 04:19 AM (GMT)
Garrin smirked. "Yes, you're right...way to keep your dad in line, I might add," he said, chuckling softly as he retrieved the box of dolls for her. They were small dolls, with soft bodies, porclein heads, and painted faces. Garrin had purchased them years ago when his clients included young children, and when he started at Hogwarts, the dolls made it over in his collection of counseling tools.
It was almost ten o'clock when Garrin's owl returned. "Oh...this'll be from Dr. Keeley, if we're lucky," he said, untying the letter. He quickly read through it, then smiled and gave a nod.
"Yep. He can't make it here, but he penciled us in for two o'clock this afternoon. That's perfect...my first session doesn't start until four.
Hmm...Keely," he said, checking his watch, "do you want to come to my meeting with me, or would you prefer I try to find someone to look after you for that hour?"
Keely Hamren - August 5, 2008 04:23 AM (GMT)
"I want to stay with you but I don't want to get in the way at your meeting." Keely told him as she lay one of the dolls in her lap while he spoke.
Garrin Hamren - August 5, 2008 04:29 AM (GMT)
"You're a well-behaved kid, Sweet Pea. You won't get in the way," Garrin said reassuringly.
"You can bring the dolls if you like...I'm just worried about it being a bit boring for you."
Keely Hamren - August 5, 2008 04:35 AM (GMT)
"I don't mind." Keely said honestly as she stood up from the carpet where she had sat playing.
Garrin Hamren - August 5, 2008 10:00 PM (GMT)
"Alright. We've still got awhile," Garrin informed her, as he again checked his watch.
"That student that I mentioned earlier...she's a sweet girl, part were-wolf, but completely harmless. She'd love to meet you, but I'll only bring her in here if you're comfortable with that."
Keely Hamren - August 5, 2008 11:54 PM (GMT)
"It's fine Daddy. You don't have to explain. I know I'm awesome." She grinned.
"Besides..I'm not mean to people who are different, only when they're for real bad...and even then, I'm not mean. I tried to file a grievance with one of my classmates, and my teacher told me that the classroom had reached the cut-off date for all grievances and sent me to the library." Keely sighed.
"She also sent a note to the library which keeps me from viewing anything in the law section."
Professor Luna Darani - August 6, 2008 02:51 AM (GMT)
Luna knocked on the door only minutes later, having just left the Ministry, the doctor's office, the Ministry again, and her psychologist.
She held a massive stack of folders in her arms. She knew Garrin's schedule well enough to know he had no students at the moment so after waiting only a few seconds, decided to let herself in.
"Hey there." She half-smiled as she looked from Garrin to Keely. It was fake smile, and her voice held a certain amount of emotion, letting anyone who knew Luna at all know that something was very amiss.
"Sweetheart! Keely. Um..Keely." She breathed a shaky laugh. "Landon is waiting for you just outside the office. Would you go stand with him for a little while. I really need to talk to Daddy alone. It's very important." She said softly, her face tight from holding back a few tears.
Keely nodded, sent a hesitant glance to Garrin and left.
Luna sank down into the student's chair opposite Garrin's desk, waiting on him to say something.
Garrin Hamren - August 6, 2008 03:13 AM (GMT)
With a blank yet fearful expression, Garrin slid his arms gently around Luna's shoulders, and pulled up a chair right next to her.
"What's happened?" he asked slowly, while trying to mentally prepare himself for the worse.
Professor Luna Darani - August 6, 2008 03:21 AM (GMT)
"Well. Matt is the father for starters." Luna choked out.
"He asked for visitation. I denied. He is taking the matter to court to ask for custody. Ethan Sagebrook was the one to present me with the results. Luca was the one to actually take the DNA before he got sick." She continued sadly. "So we know that these are factual results."
"So where we go from here...well you and I will have to work together on it and surely.."
Luna looked to the floor and then back at Garrin. "I've been to every record keeper in the Ministry and I finally got my hands on..all of my records and all of Matt and Dryagon's lot's records. We've got quite the case to crack, and of course Hermione Granger will be visiting us at home to help go through them soo that she can better defend our case."
Garrin Hamren - August 6, 2008 03:26 AM (GMT)
"We'll win this thing, you'll see. No one is going to take our babies from us," Garrin said firmly, gently squeezing her knee for comfort.
"I've heard good things about Hermione, I'm sure you have too. We'll win this...don't worry...." The words were easy enough to say, but worry was what currently flooded Garrin's thoughts.
Professor Luna Darani - August 6, 2008 03:34 AM (GMT)
"I promised I wouldn't look at my records. It's against company policy. You can look at them though..just take them before I get too curious." Luna sighed as she took one of the biggest folders from her arms and handed it over.
"Highlight anything you think will help if you get the chance to read any of it." Luna sighed. "Although I hope you can find the time. Our first court session is Wednesday and it's Monday." Luna groaned.
"Matt asked that the court expedite the process." Luna toldd him as she rolled her eyes. "Personally, I think the fact that my kids are his should count against him. Whatever though.." She sighed.
Garrin Hamren - August 6, 2008 03:41 AM (GMT)
"I can set aside work for this," Garrin said, frowning. "Weasley will understand if I'm a little late on my paperwork. This has become my new paperwork." He eyed the folder for a moment, then set it on his desk, sighing.
"Keely has an appointment with Dr. Seeley at two. Perhaps you'd better take her, so I can give my attention to this," he said, plopping a hand on the file.
"Or I could just take it with me...that would work too."
Professor Luna Darani - August 6, 2008 03:51 AM (GMT)
"I have to run by the office and then I've got a class. I can pick her up for her appointment but not until after lunch..will that be okay?" Luna asked as she shoved the rest of her files into her briefcase.
ooc: That way Keely can interact with Ray
bic: Luna had no idea what she was leaving in Garrin's hands. One the second page lay something even she had forgotten, her complete medical history. It held everything from the every flu, every vaccination, every bizarre injury she had sustained from work (dragon burns, leprechaun curses, and such) as well as some of the more traumatic things she had went through. On the top of the list were numerous bruises and things from abuse and then..the miscarriage...and out from that..notes her psychologist had added about her post traumatic stress disorder that had resurfaced after the birth of Emily in remembrance of the miscarriage.
Garrin Hamren - August 6, 2008 03:59 AM (GMT)
"Yes, that should work fine," Garrin replied, wondering for a moment whether or not Bill would be alright with rescheduling their meeting. He wanted to devote as much time as possible to winning this hearing. Having Ray come in, he realized, would be a good way to keep himself focused on the records and keep Keely entertained.
Professor Luna Darani - August 6, 2008 04:00 AM (GMT)
"I'll see you at lunch then." Luna told him and kissed him goodbye, let Keely in, kissed her goodbye (although no at all in the same way) and left, the sound of her heels letting the others inside the office know approximately where in the hallway she was.
Garrin Hamren - August 6, 2008 04:20 AM (GMT)
"Right, see you, love you!" Garrin said, smiling faintly, but even more so when Keely returned.
"Okay love...I'm going to send notice to that girl---Ray is her name---and see if she can stop by for awhile. Hey...do me a favor and name the dolls? I've been a useless old man and haven't given them proper names."
Keely Hamren - August 6, 2008 04:25 AM (GMT)
Keely sat down and tried her best to think up names for the dolls and tried not to distract Garrin any more than she had to so that he could get some things done.
Garrin Hamren - August 6, 2008 04:43 AM (GMT)
Garrin got to work at once, deciding he'd use magic to highlight important lines, as he didn't own an actual highlighter. He carefully read through the first page, highlighting here and there with his wand, and fifteen minutes later he turned the page. His brow furrowed more and more as he read on, then his stomach gave an uneasy turn upon reading the word 'miscarriage'.
"Can't be...." he muttered, rereading to ensure he hadn't been seeing things.
She was pregnant before the triplets? No...she would have told me this, surely...it's got to be a misprint....
Keely Hamren - August 6, 2008 04:50 AM (GMT)
A while later Landon showed up. Luna had sent snack for them as well as a small bag of toys for Keely to play with. Landon knocked on the door and waited to be called in to enter.
Once inside and Keely was double entertained, Landon sat down in a chair next to Garrin'S. "Quite the stack of homework..find anything?" Landon asked.
Ray Greyback - August 6, 2008 05:26 AM (GMT)
Tip tap tip tap... Went the heels of her shoes as she ran from the forest, she had gotten the letter, she thought she was in trouble because she didn't pay much attention to it. She skidded to a stop and knocked on the door, panting heavily.
Garrin Hamren - August 6, 2008 07:30 AM (GMT)
"I found something alright," Garrin muttered darkly, still staring at that same word, reading and rereading the line in which it stood. Upon hearing a knock, his stomach gave another great turn, thinking it was Luna.
"Come in."
Ray Greyback - August 6, 2008 01:37 PM (GMT)
Ray poked her head in. "I got your letter, is this a bad time?" She asked, her ears lowered and her tail wagging.
Garrin Hamren - August 6, 2008 09:01 PM (GMT)
"Oh, Ray....erm..." Garrin started, sending a hesitance glance to Keely and Landon. He set down the paper in his hands, and slowly got to his feet, as though he were thinking twice about a decision he had already made.
"No, this is a great time, er, that is, it's a great time unless you're supposed to be in class right now...."
Keely Hamren - August 7, 2008 12:12 AM (GMT)
"Hello, Ray." Keely said at once, waving from her corner in greeting.
Landon's brow furrowed. "What'd you find? What's wrong?" He asked.
Ray Greyback - August 7, 2008 12:24 AM (GMT)
"Uhm.. No... It's my free period.... I can come back.. I guess." She said and giggled at Keely. "Hello cutie! ^^" "But, yeah, I can come back some other time..."
Garrin Hamren - August 7, 2008 12:40 AM (GMT)
"No, it's alright Ray. I know you've been wanting to meet Keely," Garrin said, though it was with some distraction.
"Keely, why don't you show Ray the dolls? Maybe she can help you come up with some names...." He looked intently at once to Landon, swallowed hard, and showed him the second page of the report, pointing out in particular, the one word that he kept stumbling over himself.
Keely Hamren - August 7, 2008 12:46 AM (GMT)
Keely nodded to Ray and ushered her over eagerly.
Landon looked to the report. He read the word Garrin pointed out, his face scrunching in confusion.
"Wha.." He whispered and then read the full line only to look back at Garrin. "It couldn't be..could it?" He asked, fear gripping him.
"She would have said something right? If it happened this long ago..."Landon asked again.
Ray Greyback - August 7, 2008 12:54 AM (GMT)
Ray set her book bag on the floor and sat by Keely. "Oh, Garrin, did you give Keely the bunny?" She asked, sitting down on the floor with Keely.
Garrin Hamren - August 7, 2008 12:55 AM (GMT)
"You'd think the love of my life and soon-to-be wife would have said something, yes," Garrin said, straining to keep his voice calm and even.
"I--I just don't get it. There must be some explanation behind it. And...the what about the father? I mean...was it Matt, or Draygon? Or another one of his men?" Garrin was whispering at that point, sending the occasional furtive glance over to Keely and Ray.
He heard the Gryffindor ask him a question, and it took him a moment for it to properly register, but then he nodded.
"Oh...yes, I did, just last night," he replied, smiling weakly.
