Caryn had to learn---she had to be repaid for what she had done to him. This was merely one step of many---and it included Dylan attempting to get Caryn's family on his side.
James,
You may not know me, but I dated your cousin Caryn Weasley for a few months. She broke up with me because she wanted to date another guy, but I've looked into his past, and he's not the sort Caryn ought to be involved with. Luca Sagebrook has a history of cheating on his girlfriends and lying about it later. He's a two-timing git, and Caryn deserves better.
I heard her talk about you constantly, James...I'm quite sure you're her favorite cousin. (She told me you're on the Quidditch team---I used to play for my House as well when I was in school.) Maybe you could talk some sense into her? I'm still in love with her, and my hope is to win her heart back.
She might have some rather harsh things to say about me, but I'm sure you know that Caryn has the unfortunate habit of lying to cover up her mistakes. She broke my heart, and if she were asked, she would probably make me out to be the bad guy in all this. She has a good heart though, as I'm sure you also know.
Thank you James,
Dylan Bloomquist
James, hanging out in the window of the owlery, sucked on a lollipop as he ripped open the letter from someone he definitely didn't know. He was suspicious to begin with. Random men sending him letters...well, that's pedophile worthy in itself.
His eyes scanned the letter, his brow furrowing slowly. Caryn wasn't stupid. If she broke up with this guy, she had to have a reason. If this Dylan guy thought he wasn't going to believe his own favorite cousin then he was sorely mistaken. Dylan obviously wasn't all that smart. His family was tight nit. They didn't just go straight for other peoples thinking because they say they're lying.
And did Dylan think he would be flattered by the fact he played Quidditch? Psshh. James wasn't shallow, this is for sure.
He had to go talk to Caryn. This guy was weird and James didn't like the way he talked about her.
