Nikolas: Gotcha! Doing what exactly? What were you doing?
Nadine: Making sure I didn't imagine it.
Nikolas: Oh, yeah? You need me to remind you?
Nadine: It couldn't hurt.
[Knock on door]
Nikolas: I guess that's breakfast. Come on in.
Nadine: Oh, it's the butler.
Alfred: Good morning, Sir. Miss Nadine.
Nikolas: Alfred, how are you?
Alfred: May I offer you coffee or perhaps some fresh-squeezed orange juice?
Nadine: Orange juice, I guess.
Alfred: And you, Sir?
Nikolas: Coffee, please, and a brioche if you -- if you have them. Did those faxes from Singapore -- did they come in yet?
Alfred: Just before dawn.
Nikolas: All right, will you put them in my briefcase so I don't forget? Thanks.
Scott: You can go.
Scott: Welcome back, punk. According to the Harbor Patrol, you intentionally rammed your boat into the side of a freighter. What boggles my mind is you got away with my son's murder, cheated your way out of a lethal injection, so why would you try and kill yourself?
Sonny: So, Patrick Drake's on board to operate, and you know, he doesn't do unsuccessful, so you're going to be -- you're going to be fine. You're going to come out of that O.R. whole and take your life back, the life you should've had before I --
Olivia: I brought you coffee and some croissant thing.
Sonny: Well, I was under the impression that you didn't care if I starved to death.
Olivia: Well, if it wasn't for Connie, I wouldnít.
Nadine: You and Alfred make an impressive breakfast team. You get much practice?
Nikolas: He's very good at anticipating my needs.
Nadine: That is an excellent trait in a butler.
Nikolas: What -- where are you going?
Nadine: Just starting the day.
Nikolas: Oh, I thought we could -- we could maybe spend it together.
Nadine: Oh, that would be so much fun. So was this, by the way. More fun than a barrel of monkeys. You know, I never understood that expression, "more fun than barrel of monkeys," because how much fun would they actually have, all cooped up in a barrel like that? I'm running late.
Nikolas: Okay, well, how about -- how about dinner? I'll tell Alfred to make a reservation anywhere you want, or we could eat in here.
Nadine: No, you know what? I don't think I can make dinner. Actually, I have so much going on, you wouldn't believe it. But you know, this was -- this was great, and so totally no pressure. I really appreciate you not making a big deal over something so mundane as a little thing like sex.
Nikolas: Did I say something wrong?
Nadine: No, no. Not at all. Everything was great. Great foreplay, great sex, great breakfast. So we'll talk later? Or not, because that'd be fine, too. We've both got so much going on, you know -- busy, busy. So thanks so much.
Nikolas: I --
Nadine: I'll see you around. Okay.
Scott: So according to an eyewitness, you deliberately ran your boat into the side of the freighter. The freighter took off, and your boat sank, leaving you with no life vest. It's really a pity that you didn't drown. Got nothing to say?
Johnny: Not without my lawyer.
Scott: Oh, yeah, right, the lawyer. Fancy lawyers, lying sisters to hide behind. Yeah, you think you can do whatever you want, just skate right through life because you're -- got all this family, criminal money. Anything you want to do. Well, let me just assure you of one thing. One of these days, you're going to swallow that silver spoon, and you're going to choke on it. And I'm going to be there, and I'm going to watch it.
Johnny: You know what protects me? It's not my family. It's that law that you so diligently serve. You see, the law says that you can't be tried twice for the same crime, so I might as well finally tell you the truth. You were right, Mr. Special prosecutor. I killed your sorry-ass little son, and I loved every second of it.
Diane: Well, never let it be said that I don't recognize a cue line when I hear one, but I want to go on record. I don't need to hear the gory details of Kate's shooting to understand that this was but yet another move on the mob chessboard. An enemy of Sonny's wanted revenge or wanted to make some big, showy statement, so Kate, just like Michael, was an innocent victim, literally caught in the crossfire. And now, of course, Sonny obviously wants to strike back, wants to make a big, scary statement of his own, and I am not deceived for a second about the two of you and what exactly you are capable of. You can and will commit violent mayhem just like that at Sonny's request. But I am asking both of you to take a step back and ask yourselves what exactly will be achieved by perpetuating the cycle of violence? What exactly constitutes appropriate revenge? When there's nobody left standing? I'm sorry for being selfish, Jason, but I really don't want to have to pick out a smart outfit to go to Maxís funeral just because Sonny Corinthos wants to make a point.
Max: That is one hell of a woman. Just so we're clear, as much as I respect Dianeís feelings, I'll do anything Mr. C needs.
Jason: No, Max, you canít. And I can't either.
Sonny: I love you. I want to thank you for holding off on Kate's surgery. I know it wasn't an easy decision, but it was the right one. You know, if anybody's going to get her through this, it's Patrick Drake, all right? I just wanted to tell you that.
Olivia: You're going to have to pin your hopes all on this Drake guy, don't you? Because if Connie dies or if she never walks again, it's -- it's pretty much all on you.
Sonny: It's going to be on me regardless.
Olivia: You know, Connie was always real book smart.
Olivia: She had a head for business.
Olivia: Brought that magazine from zero to 60 in nothing flat. But she -- that didn't translate into your world. You know, she had no insight into the mob or how it works, so when you told her you were retired, she just believed you.
Sonny: I -- I did retire. I didn't know that it couldn't last.
Patrick: Excuse me. I'm going to need to examine Kate.
Olivia: I'm going to go change. I'm going to get some stuff that Connie might want after surgery. If anything happens, you call me on my cell.
Sonny: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Olivia: Thank you.
Sonny: You know, I thought she -- I don't know, maybe -- I thought she'd wake up this morning.
Patrick: She did wake up.
Sonny: What did you say?
Patrick: Last night she did wake up.
Sonny: What --
Patrick: She -- she wanted me to tell you something.
Scott: You're going to admit this to me now?
Johnny: Why not? I figured you'd enjoy being right.
Scott: Yeah, well, it's a little late.
Johnny: Yeah, well, you win some, you lose some, and you lost big. Not only did you lose your precious little son, but you lost his murder trial. Now his murderer is running around, ramming his boat into freighters, and I got to say this world is a better place without your sniveling little brat running around fouling up the atmosphere. Did you know that your son was a coward? You should have heard him that night he died, whining like a little bitch, screaming for mercy. You see, I looked at him right in the eyes, laughed. I stuck that knife in his gut as far as it would go. What, is that all you got?
Claudia: Get your hands off of him!
Scott: Get off of me. Get off me.
Claudia: Don't you dare touch him. He's clearly the victim here. I want this animal arrested for assault.
Olivia: Thanks for agreeing to see me.
Carly: I'm assuming this is about Kate. How's she doing?
Olivia: Well, she's about to go into surgery, but she's not why I came to talk to you. It's about Sonny.
Carly: What about Sonny?
Olivia: Well, I noticed you the other day in the church when my cousin got shot. You were shook up, but you weren't surprised.
Carly: Okay, what are you getting at?
Olivia: You got a lot of Sonny experience. I mean, probably more than anybody. What, did you marry him like four times? You know how his life works, right? You know realistically what he can and can't do. Now my cousin Connie, she's completely clueless. All she's got to go on is what Sonny tells her, and we both know Sonny lies. So I'm asking you, woman to woman, when Sonny said he's out of the mob, was he lying?
Carly: I'm -- I'm the wrong person to ask, okay? I can't be objective, and as far as the ins and out of Sonny's business, I mean, that's a -- that's a hard one to explain.
Olivia: All right, look, I'm not looking for some comprehensive history of the mob here, all right? I just want to know, when Sonny said he was out of the mob, was he telling the truth? Yes or no?
Sonny: I was with Kate all night. She didn't even -- never mind. What did she -- what did she tell you?
Patrick: Honestly, Sonny, we never got that far. Kate lost consciousness before she could say what she wanted to. I wouldn't worry. I'm sure she'll tell you herself as soon as she wakes up from surgery.
Sonny: You say that with a lot of confidence, and I'm taking your word at that, because I -- I did have to convince Kate's cousin that you're going to have to hold off on the surgery, because you said it's best, you know, right, to wait. And you said that you would get her through this and that she wouldn't be paralyzed.
Patrick: I am the best at what I do, and I believe I can save Kate, but I also think there should be a dose of realism here. With every surgery, there are risks of complications. Some things are out of our control, as you well know.
Sonny: Give her the best you got, Doctor.
Patrick: I promise you, I will. I'm going to go scrub up. You have a couple of minutes before they come and get her.
Sonny: Oh, boy.
Sonny: I've been -- I've been wrong about a lot of things, but I'm -- one thing I was right about was falling back in love with you. I want you to take that love back to the O.R. Beat the odds. Come back to me.
Scott: This piece of garbage just admitted to killing my son!
Ric: Oh, really? Is that so? Anybody besides you hear this startling confession?
Scott: Oh, come on, Lansing. You think he's stupid enough to -- to 'fess up in front of other people? His criminal father taught him to be smarter than that.
Ric: It's immaterial either way, Baldwin. Come on, double jeopardy applies here. You can't charge John with Loganís murder again.
Scott: Yeah, well, you know what? We still got him on reckless endangerment. He did run his speedboat into the side of a freighter.
Ric: Well, if you don't mind, I'd like to check the witnesses' statements from the crew.
Scott: Well, take a look.
Johnny: There aren't any. When the coast guard pulled me out of the water, guess what? Whoops, no freighter.
Claudia: Oh, so now you're inventing crimes to charge my brother with?
Scott: Shut up, you. I didn't invent anything. We had a legitimate witness.
Ric: Watch your mouth. An anonymous witness?
Claudia: Oh, that's -- that's good. The only -- it looks like the only thing you actually have proof of is that my brother was involved in a one-person boating accident. Is that -- is that a crime?
Claudia: But on the other hand, there are two police officers who saw you assault my brother while he was cuffed and helpless.
Ric: I think Ms. Zacchara raises a very big point here. We could charge you with assault, Baldwin.
Johnny: I like that. Where do I sign?
Scott: You know what? I'm starting to think that maybe Lulu did go crazy. Who wouldn't, dealing with scum like you?
Jason: Cody and I went back to the church to double-check the sightline from the choir loft, and there is no doubt Kate was the intended target.
Max: Well, then it had to be Karpov, not just because the bullet was Russian, but he had motive. Karpov was pissed that Sonny backed out of their deal. He felt disrespected, so he had Kate shot to send a message.
Jason: Okay, Max. I just want you to think for a second. Anyone can buy a Russian gun, right? I mean, why be so obvious? You want to send a message to Sonny, why not say so? It doesn't add up, and until I know all the facts for sure, I cannot retaliate.
Max: Are you seriously standing here, refusing to help Sonny get revenge for Kate after everything he's done for you?
Carly: Look, I told you, I'm not the most objective person. I'm sorry, but I never liked your cousin, and my recent history with Sonny has been rocky, to say the least.
Olivia: Look, if I just wanted the facts, I would have read an old newspaper, okay? I came to you because you're an insider. You know Sonny better than anybody. Let's face it. The guy's not the most self-aware guy on the planet, right?
Carly: True enough.
Olivia: Here's what I'm asking. When he makes his grand gesture about being out of the mob, was he telling the truth or not?
Carly: The truth is, Sonny genuinely wanted to get out of the mob. He sold his business to his best friend and partner, Jason Morgan, who happens to be my closest friend, too. When my oldest son was shot, I wanted to make sure the same thing didn't happen to my youngest, so that means keeping my son away from his father.
Olivia: Makes sense to me.
Carly: Yeah, well, it didn't make sense to Sonny. He refused to give up custody until Jason told him he wouldn't take over the business unless Sonny gave up all parental rights. Sonny was furious. Furious. He thought Jason and I were ganging up against him. He thought we were conspiring to take away his child. And let me tell you something. Sonny was angry, and when he gets like that, there is no rational thinking going on. None. It's all about revenge, and it's about getting back. So when this Russian mob boss showed up and Karpov wanted to set up shop in this town, Sonny went into business with him, and he didn't tell Jason, and he didn't tell Kate. I don't know what happened. I don't know what went down, but Sonny tried to walk away. He said he was done. Well, I'm guessing that's why your cousin was shot, because Karpov wanted to send a message that nobody walks away.
Olivia: So what you're telling me is Sonny lied. He was never out of the mob, and he basically set my cousin up with a big, fat bull's-eye on her back.
Sonny: I never got a chance to tell you how amazing you looked in your wedding dress. All that time and effort you put into making it perfect -- I got to tell you, you -- you did it great. Took my breath away. I remember you walking down the aisle, and it was like your feet weren't even on the ground, and I saw you. You looked so beautiful, and I was filled with so much love for you. Sometimes I just don't know where to put it. The love I felt, the love I feel now. It's too much for one person to feel. That's why you -- you got to come through here, okay? I -- I would lay down my life for you.
Sonny: Hey, hey.
Kate: Are you okay?
Sonny: Yeah, you're the one we're worried about. Listen. Listen to me. Save your strength, okay, because we're going to -- we'll talk later.
Kate: You need to know.
Sonny: It's okay. It's okay, it's okay.
Epiphany: It's time to take Ms. Howard in for surgery.
Sonny: All right.
Nikolas: Thank you, Alfred.
Alfred: Oh, this will never do.
Alfred: Oh, it seems the maid failed to steam out the crease in the collar.
Nikolas: Oh. It's fine. I don't have time.
Alfred: Oh, Mrs. Jacks' sister just called to confirm your meeting.
Nikolas: Good. Good, thank you. Thank you. Alfred, one more thing.
Nikolas: Did Nadine strike you as a bit -- uh, a bit odd this morning?
Alfred: No more than usual, Sir. Miss Nadine is an odd young lady. Charmingly so. Has something specific prompted your concern?
Nikolas: Well, I was under the apparently mistaken impression that spending the night with me would be a bit more significant for her. But in fact, it was the complete opposite. It was like she couldn't wait to get out of here.
Nikolas: You see that thing over there on the floor, quivering, battered, and bruised? It's my ego.
Nikolas: I guess I didn't know her as well as I thought I did.
Nadine: I'm just going to go get changed and I'll be reporting for duty.
Leyla: You arranged to take the day off, remember?
Nadine: Oh, I changed my mind. I want to work. I need to work. That way, everything is perfectly normal.
Leyla: Nothing what?
Nadine: Nothing happened. That's what you were going to ask, right? So why don't you just come out and ask it?
Leyla: You seem to be doing just fine by yourself.
Nadine: Well, Nikolas found me on the ship. We went back to Wyndemere and had dinner, and I called to tell you that I was okay.
Leyla: And? You do realize you're leaving out, like, 15 hours.
Nadine: Do I look different to you?
Leyla: Different than -- ?
Leyla: You either tell me what's going on, or I'm leaving.
Nadine: Nikolas and I slept together. And --
Leyla: Oh, my gosh.
Nadine: And it was -- wow. Like fireworks going off in the sky while like every fantasy I have ever had multiplied by a thousand.
Leyla: Nadine, I'm so happy for you. I know you'd wanted to make a deeper connection with Nikolas for a while.
Nadine: I don't know about deeper connection. Let's not regress to teenage silliness here. It's just sex, right.
Leyla: Just sex.
Nadine: Yeah. Nikolas and I are adults. We both understand that one-night stands happen all the time. I mean, you scratch the itch. You sleep it off. The butler brings in breakfast in the morning, and you walk yourself out the door.
Leyla: Oh, my gosh, you didnít.
Nadine: I didn't want to. But it was so bizarre. I mean, we wake up and start making out, and there was a knock on the door and the butler comes right in. "Will you be having coffee or orange juice, Miss?" I was just speechless. And Nikolas acted so casual, and I didn't want to appear needy or clingy or starry-eyed, so --
Leyla: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. So you jumped to the other extreme. How's Nikolas supposed to know that last night meant anything to you if you act like that?
Scott: File whatever charges you want, Lansing. But I can hold him for 48 hours, and that's exactly what I'm going to do. So take him down to the holding cell, where he'll be fresh meat.
Ric: You might want to let a cooler head prevail here, Baldwin. Now, either you back off with this insane revenge that you want against my client, or I'm going to turn this little bullying session into a publicity nightmare. Not just for you and the D.A.'S office, but for Mayor Floyd, as well. We all know what a media whore our esteemed mayor is, right? He's still taking it on the chin because you failed to convict John. You push this, he's going to boot you out.
Johnny: That would be worth getting locked up for.
Scott: Let him go, Officer. You know, Johnny, what I just realized is that I don't have to get justice for my son because I can see in your eyes the only thing that keeps you tethered to this planet is Lulu. And now that she's crazy, she doesn't know who you are. You're already dead.
Sonny: Hey. How you doing?
Robin: Oh --
Robin: Hey, listen to me.
Robin: Look at me.
Robin: The best possible surgical team is working on Kate right now. And Patrick is the best choice that you could make for a surgeon.
Sonny: Is that the words of a professional or the woman in love with the baby's father?
Robin: Both, probably. You know, no matter how much he annoys me sometimes, I have never doubted his abilities as a surgeon. And being in love with him has given me a front-row seat to see how he does his job, how he makes his decisions. I can honestly say without any hesitation that he is the best doctor that I've ever had the privilege to know.
Sonny: You see this right here? Being pregnant and so full of life? Seeing the look in your eyes of pride and love when you talk about the man you love. That gives me hope. Because no matter what happens in life -- and it could be as bad as anything -- if life goes on, happiness is a possibility. Right?
Carly: Thank you.
Carly: Hi. Well, I was surprised to get your call. And intrigued. You said it was about business. What's up?
Nikolas: It is. I'm expanding my interests here in Port Charles and I would love for the Metro Court to be part of that expansion.
Carly: This Metro Court?
Nikolas: Yes. I've already spoken to Jax. He's made it very clear to me he's not interested in selling, but I was hoping you might feel differently.
Carly: Okay. Well, before I consider it, I want to know the real reason you're making this offer.
Nikolas: I just told you.
Carly: Not all of it. What prompted this sudden desire in acquiring my hotel?
Nikolas: Well, it's really only sudden on the surface. See, at night when I'm thinking back at Wyndemere, I like to sit out on my terrace because it has this amazing view of this area. And the Metro Court is right smack in the middle of it. Just setting there like a jewel. And I've sort of become attached to it.
Carly: There's tons of buildings and businesses in this area. Businesses you have hands-on experience with. Have you ever supervised running a hotel?
Nikolas: No, I havenít.
Carly: Hmm. You're looking for a challenge. Or you just want to go up against Jax.
Claudia: Why are you still here?
Ric: Why are you still here? Are you waiting for me? I'm so flattered.
Claudia: We need to talk about what just happened.
Claudia: How much is this little escapade going to cost Johnny down the line in terms of trouble?
Ric: You could have told me that in your father's living room with your father present.
Claudia: Okay. Maybe there's another reason why I waited.
Claudia: I was thinking maybe we could revisit that whole -- you know, reward I promised you.
Claudia: You certainly have it coming. Not only did you get Johnny acquitted, but you just got him released again.
Ric: Well, I'm even more flattered. Sounds like you're very anxious to pay up.
Claudia: Well, I don't like to have big debts hanging over my head, and I like to make sure that the people that come through for me get a huge return on their investment.
Ric: I can't tell you --
Ric: I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to that, but sadly, it's going to have to wait, because I'm not finished yet.
Claudia: Oh, wait a minute -- I'm sorry. Johnny was just released, so your work here is done as far as I can see. Why do you want to hang around this crappy joint instead of plying me with alcohol?
Ric: I'm trying to gather some ammunition. There's no better place to find it. But by all means, you hold that thought.
Sonny: I wonder sometimes if you ever stop being an inspiration to me.
Sonny: No, really. I mean, just -- you know, I know when you and Stone set an example by, you know, handling his diagnosis. I know you were just kids. But I was moved by your courage. The way you -- you know, hey -- you lived life to the fullest. You loved each other. No reservations. That's what you got to do if you are lucky enough to find love. You can't hold back. You gotta say what you feel. You can't sit in a room alone and wish you could change what's already been done. Because the only thing we have is this moment right now. And if you don't take advantage of that, you didn't deserve it in the first place. I just want to tell you because I haven't been able to tell you that I, uh -- you know, just the fact that you've been able to manage that every day. You have.
Robin: I don't know. I -- I donít know if that's exactly true. I forget to do that all the time, you know, but I try my best. Now that I have Patrick and I'm in love with him, I -- I --
Sonny: How's Kate? Did she make it?
Patrick: Hey. How are you doing? Yeah. It's been a tough day. Why don't you let me take you for a little walk around the water?
Robin: Yeah, maybe. I have to say something, though. First.
Robin: So, I was with Sonny today.
Robin: And he reminded me of something that I should never let myself forget. And that is, time is precious. And so is love. And we should never be so arrogant as to take that for granted. So that is to say that I know I've been really difficult. And, uh, I've been clinging to my fear for dear life, wanting to stay in my sterile emotional comfort zone instead of just staying true to the one thing that I know. That I love you. And I know that you love me. And I'm sorry that I haven't honored that as much as I should have, but I want to change all of that now. I mean, if you let me, I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?
Nikolas: Jax and I will never be friends, but that's personal. This is business.
Carly: Hmm. Okay, then maybe it's this. Whenever I lose someone I love and I'm feeling a little unsettled, I compensate by taking on new challenges.
Nikolas: So -- so now you're connecting my desire to own this hotel with Emilyís death. That was a long time ago. Nearly a year ago.
Carly: Yeah. In the meantime, you built a clinic in her name.
Nikolas: You may be right. Or you may be over-thinking it. The bottom line is, I want to own this hotel. And so far, I haven't heard you say that you're not willing to sell it.
Carly: It's really hard to think about corporate takeover when your collar's all messed up.
Nikolas: Thank you.
Carly: There. That's better.
Sonny: You made it. Patrick says you'll make a full recovery. You did your part. Now it's time to do mine. You know why I walked away from the mob. You know that better than anyone. But it left me vulnerable. Even worse, it made you vulnerable. That can't happen again. I have to accept that I can't run away from the violence. I have become the violence. So I'm going back. I'm going to put myself in a position where I strike fear in my enemies' hearts. And whoever did this to you, whoever hurt you is going to pay an ugly price. No one will ever come after me or mine again.
