Karpov: If you'll excuse me, I'm here to register a complaint.

Carly: Mr. Karpov.

Karpov: Andrei.

Carly: Andrei, is there a problem with your table?

Karpov: Yes, I'm alone. There's no vodka sent from a kind friend, no sweet messages, and I so hope your intentions were sincere.

Carly: They are, definitely. Just, uh, things have been a little hectic lately.

Karpov: Has your husband become an obstacle?

Jax: I'm Jasper Jacks. My wife Carly and I own the hotel. And you are?

Alexis: Here's your choice -- you let go of my wrist. Very good, thank you. Now I won't have to add assault of a public official to the laundry list of charges that I have against you.

Claudia: Go ahead, really. You'll make yourself look just as petty and paranoid as Scott Baldwin.

Alexis: Why don't you leave the spin for your lawyers? That's my best advice.

[Claudia chuckles]

Nikolas: What's going on?

Alexis: I'll be right with you.

Claudia: Your aunt is going to have me arrested for standing in her office.

Nikolas: Well, that would be a mistake.

Alexis: No, Nikolas, it won't be a mistake because she was caught behind my desk rifling through my papers.

Claudia: I was standing in her office. I was looking around. If you want to try to turn that into evidence tampering, go ahead, really.

Alexis: I will. I'm also going to add obstruction of justice.

Nikolas: Excuse me. With all due respect here, given the array of criminal behavior you're willing to overlook with Jerry Jacks, don't you think it's a little extreme to prosecute her for standing behind your desk?

Anthony: Are they treating you all right?

[Anthony chuckles]

Anthony: I'm your father. I deserve an answer.

Johnny: About what you'd expect.

Anthony: I understand Lulu put on quite a show today.

Johnny: It wasn't a show. She's in bad shape.

Anthony: Good, because the crazier she is, the easier it's going to be to get you out of this mess.

Lulu: Mom?

Laura: Yes, honey. I'm here.

Lulu: No, no, no, no, no. How can you be here?

Laura: I am. It's okay. Whatever's wrong, we're going to make it right.

Lulu: I can't believe this. I can't -- the doctors said you that you were not coming back, but I still had hope. I've just -- oh, Mom, I missed you so much.

Laura: I know. I know, sweetheart.

Lulu: I'm going -- I'm going to tell the doctors, okay?

Laura: They know. They were here when I -- when I woke up.

Lulu: How did this happen? What -- are you on new medication or something?

Laura: They don't -- they don't tell me very much, but if I fade out, then don't be scared. It's to be expected.

Lulu: How did this happen? And what about Lucky and Nikolas? Why -- why wouldn't they tell me? What -- what about Dad?

Laura: I asked them not to. I don't want to disappoint you if I relapse.

Lulu: Did the doctors say that's what's going to happen?

Laura: I don't know. Honey, what -- what matters is that I'm here. I'm here now. So tell me, what's got you so upset?

Lulu: I'm not visiting. I'm a patient. I think that I'm going crazy like you.

Johnny: You aren't going to use Lulu to get me out of this. I don't want her involved.

Anthony: Then you shouldn't have dragged her out of here with a gun to her head. And you sure as hell shouldn't have gotten caught when you dumped her in the loony bin.

Johnny: Lulu is in Shadybrook to get well. I don't want her in that courtroom and I definitely don't want her on that witness stand. I thought we agreed on this.

Anthony: We do, up to a point. There's no sense in wasting my money and the court's time unless we make sure that Lulu is a mess in front of the jury. They have to believe she's a whack job or --

Johnny: You were the whack job when we growing up, remember? You saw things that weren't there. You were too damn paranoid to even leave the house. And you hurt the people that you said you loved the most, especially my mother.

Anthony: I'm well now.

Johnny: Well, you can understand where she is. I think that maybe you could have some compassion for her.

Anthony: My only concern here is for you, John. And the best shot we have, since you and your sister destroyed all the evidence, is to prove self-defense. So we're going to convince the jury that Lulu was crazy enough to keep you and Logan fighting all the time. Then she finally provoked Logan into coming after you --

Johnny: That isn't what happened.

Anthony: I don't care what happened. I only care about getting you out of here. And if that means putting Lulu on the stand and -- and pushing her buttons until she flips out, that's what we're going to do.

Johnny: Leave her alone.

Anthony: You need to reconsider who you're ordering around, son, because maybe I'm just a crazy old man in a wheelchair to you, but right now I'm the only person with any power that's actually on your side.

Nikolas: Is anything missing?

Alexis: I don't know, Nikolas. You ought to give me a minute and I'll let you know.

Nikolas: Alexis, is it -- is it remotely possible that you want to have her arrested simply because you don't like her?

Alexis: I don't believe this.

Nikolas: What?

Alexis: This woman was behind my desk, rummaging through my files and -- and how am I the villain?

Nikolas: Scott -- Scott Baldwin is trying to railroad her brother. He's -- she's probably desperate to protect him.

Alexis: Since when are you such good friends with Claudia and John Zacchara?

Nikolas: I believe that Claudia would do anything to protect her brother, yes. And, I don't know, I guess I respect that. As far as John and Lulu go, I wish they'd never met, but Lulu appears to be completely in love with John, whether I like it or not. I happen to know for a fact that John sacrificed his freedom to get Lulu some help. That alone should give both John and Claudia the benefit of the doubt. And I'm asking you to do the same.

Alexis: This is your lucky day. Because I love my nephew and as a favor to him, and against my better judgment, you're free to go.

Claudia: Thank you.

Carly: Jax, this is Andrei Karpov. He's a guest here at the hotel.

Jax: Nice to meet you, Mr. Karpov. Are you enjoying your stay?

Karpov: Very much. Every detail is charming.

Jax: How long has he been staying here?

Carly: A few weeks now.

Jax: Hmm, Andrei Karpov.

Carly: You heard of him?

Jax: The only Andrei Karpov I've heard of is a Russian gangster.

Carly: That's him. That's the same person.

Jax: Do I want to know how you know that?

Carly: Karpov is getting established here in Port Charles so I made it a point to introduce myself on the chance that I could get information to pass along to Jason.

Jax: But yes, of course, you would. And you don't see how I would have a problem with that.

Spinelli: There's bound to be a report of the hit and run filed with the constabulary. And if -- and if your father, the top cop, realizes that I subjected you to a stake-out and we were almost --

Maxie: Conserve your energy, Spinelli. You're about to go through surgery, or not, depending on what you decide.

Spinelli: The choice resides with Maximista.

Maxie: Why do you want me to make the decision?

Spinelli: My cognitive skills are -- are compromised with -- due to my pain, and I sense conflict within -- in this staff, but I can't fully assess the situation and -- oh!

Maxie: Oh, God, Spinelli.

Spinelli: Look, I -- I trust you.

Elizabeth: He's clear on all the pre-op workup.

Matt: Okay, I need you to scrub in and find out if Nurse Johnson's available.

Elizabeth: Yes, Doctor.

Nadine: Wait a second. The patient hasn't agreed to surgery or to you as the surgeon.

Matt: The patient's spleen resembles a watermelon dropped from a second-floor window onto the sidewalk. Any questions?

Nadine: This doctor can't be trusted.

Matt: Watch it, Nurse Crowell.

Maxie: You know, you're starting to upset Spinelli. His pain, I think, is getting worse.

Nadine: I'm going to page Dr. Drake.

Maxie: Just hold on, Spinelli. Okay, just do the surgery. Just do the surgery.

Matt: Mr. Spinelli? Get him prepped, we're going to the O.R.

Maxie: Please, God, for once in my life, let this be the right decision.

Sam: Hey.

Lucky: I got your message. I'm just glad you're back.

Sam: Yeah, I just -- I wanted to see you for a second and change clothes because I'm running a shipment tonight.

Lucky: Hey, why are you acting like you didn't even get shot? Why don't you just -- why don't you just give yourself some time to heal? Karpov, he trusts you and he'll be running more shipments.

Sam: Yeah, but Jerry Jacks might not be running any more shipments. I know he's involved in this, Lucky. I can feel it. I caught him meeting with Karpov tonight down by the pier.

Lucky: Did you hear what they were saying?

Sam: No, I couldn't understand a word that they were saying. But I figure if I do this shipment tonight, I can gather enough evidence and prove that he's involved and I can prove to my mother that the man she's sleeping with can't be trusted.

Lucky: Okay, you are losing perspective. Jerry Jacks is not the focus of our investigation, drug dealers are. And if you were too worried about Jerry and your mother, the real perps might get away.

Maxie: Don't worry. I will be waiting right here for you when you wake up.

Spinelli: Okay, contact Stone Cold and let him know that an unknown evil-doer attempted to run us both down in an unidentified dark vehicle.

Maxie: I will tell him you saved me. I'll tell the whole world you're a hero, but not until I know that you're okay. And you will be, because you have to be. I mean, who else could put up with me? I can't lose anyone else, Spinelli. You have to be okay.

Spinelli: Should I wander into the void --

Maxie: Just tell Georgie to send you back. She'll know how much I need you. Promise?

Spinelli: I will.

Maxie: Promise me.

Spinelli: I promise. But just in case, should I wander into the void --

Maxie: Don't say that you're not going to come back. Just forget about the void. I've had plenty of serious heart operations. I know how this works. And don't get all cosmic when they tell you to start counting backwards. Just think about all the fun things you're going to get to do when this all over, okay? Think -- think about the most amazing day of your life or -- or someone that you love more than anything in the whole world, someone that you want to live for.

Spinelli: I shall.

Epiphany: It's time to go.

Carly: I know how dangerous Karpov is.

Jax: Then why would you chat him up?

Carly: I told you, to help Jason. And I could've lied to you, but that would ruin the whole trust thing.

Jax: I appreciate you telling me the truth, Carly, but why would you get mixed up with a Russian gangster in the first place?

Carly: Because Sonny made a deal with Karpov and he cut out Jason. And I'm worried about Jason.

Jax: I thought Sonny left the mob for Kate.

Carly: Well, I guess he lied. Shocker. Anyway, I need a distraction because you won't come home no matter how much I beg you to.

Jax: Oh, so what, this is my fault? Is this what you're saying?

Carly: No, I love you and I'm 100% committed to you, but you're the one who walked out and you won't come home so you don't get to object to anything I do while you're gone.

Jax: Where are you going?

Carly: I don't know if you've heard, but my cousin, Lulu, is in Shadybrook, all right? I'm going to visit her if that's okay with you, because I know how lonely and terrifying that place is.

Lulu: I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to say that you're crazy.

[Laura laughs]

Laura: That's okay. You've always said exactly what was on your mind, ever since you could talk. I like that about you. Don't feel like you have to sugar-coat anything for me, hmm?

Lulu: Okay. Promise me the same. Just don't talk to me like the visitors do. They're too quiet and too careful, like they're afraid they'll shatter me into a million pieces if they say the wrong word.

Laura: It gets old, doesn't it?

Lulu: Yeah.

Laura: Everybody telling you what to do for your own good. Oh, don't you just want to smack them?

Lulu: You sound like Dad. He is just -- he's going to be so happy.

Laura: No, no. Honey, let's keep this just between us for now, all right?

Lulu: Okay.

Laura: There's no sense in putting him through all of that if it's just -- it's just temporary, you know?

Lulu: Yeah, you're right.

Laura: You're going to get through this. I know you will. I can still see the courage shining in your eyes.

Lulu: That's what you said to me last time before you left.

Laura: Do people tell you that you're like me? Honey, honey, you're not. You're stronger.

Lulu: I disagree.

Laura: Every generation gets a little bit better. That's how it works.

Lulu: You're -- you're getting a little tired.

Laura: Oh, I don't want you to see me. I -- I just need to rest a little bit. Don't worry. I'll be here when you get back.

Matt: There it is, ladies and gentlemen, the overlooked, the under-appreciated spleen. Unlike the heart, once damaged, it cannot be repaired, so Mr. Spinelli will have to live without it. Scalpel.

Nadine: Did you check the liver? There might be a hematoma on the liver capsule.

Matt: I will check all the organs in the exploratory phase. Clamp.

Nadine: Make sure you tie off that artery securely so he doesn't have internal bleeding post-op.

Epiphany: Take care of your own work, Nurse Crowell.

Matt: Retractor. Nurse?

Nadine: Are you sure you didn't rupture the diaphragm?

Matt: Get out of my O.R.

Epiphany: Nurse Crowell.

Nadine: You're going to explore the bowels, right?

Epiphany: Nurse Crowell, leave this O.R. and consider yourself on report. Now!

Matt: Go.

Matt: Clamp.

[Lulu chuckles]

[Knock on door]

Lulu: Oh, it's open.

Carly: Hey.

Lulu: Hi.

Carly: Hi. Well, how you doing?

Lulu: I'm so much better than I was.

Carly: Oh, you don't have to lie to me and say that. I've been here. I know. But I'm sure some stuff in this bag will cheer you up. I bought you a few hoodies.

Lulu: Oh, my gosh. They are so cute.

Carly: Yeah, and I threw in some Belgian chocolate and even a satin pillowcase for you.

Lulu: Wow, that is so wonderful. You did not have to do that.

Carly: Well, thanks for liking it. You know what? I have a few different colors in here and some tabloids.

Lulu: Oh, you did not.

Carly: Yeah, well, you know, it's nice to know that the rich and famous, you know, are as messed up as we are, if not more.

Lulu: Oh, this is great. You did not have to do this.

Carly: Wow, you seem to be handling this place awful well.

Lulu: Well, yeah. I mean, it was awful for a while, but things changed.

Carly: What things?

Lulu: I found a reason to hope.

Johnny: Have you seen Lulu? Is she okay?

[Nikolas sighs]

Nikolas: John, Lucky believes that Lulu may be headed for a complete breakdown.

Johnny: I know. He blames me.

Nikolas: Yes, he does. He thinks that sending you to jail is the only thing that'll save Lulu. But I happen to disagree with him and here's why. Lulu's in love with you and she blames herself for everything that happened to Logan and she'll blame herself for whatever happens to you as well. So it's in her best interest for me to help you. And that's what I'll do, but you need to tell me what you need.

Johnny: Lulu needs to stay off the stand, no matter what happens.

Nikolas: Why does she need to stay off the stand?

Johnny: She'll fall apart. She won't even know what she's saying.

Nikolas: Well, what are you afraid that she'll say? What does she know about Loganís death that we don't?

Nikolas: Does Lulu know something that can be used against you in court?

Johnny: It's not what Lulu knows, it's her state of mind. My father wants my lawyers to break her down on the stand. He wants them to convince the jury that she's crazy and she made the hostility between me and Logan so bad that he finally came after me.

Nikolas: And then you had to defend yourself.

Johnny: That's right.

Nikolas: Well, given what's at stake here for you, you might want to listen to your father.

Johnny: You know, if this is some test to see if I'll throw your sister under the bus to save my own ass, you're wasting your time. All I care about is Lulu. She needs to get well no matter what happens to me. And if she ends up in that courtroom or on that witness stand, she'll be gone forever, to all of us.

Carly: I know what it's like to be here, you know. You have to listen to your doctors, take your meds, no questions asked, do what you're told.

Lulu: Yeah.

Carly: But you need to be honest, Lulu, especially with yourself.

Lulu: I guess you heard what happened at the PCPD.

Carly: I heard bits and pieces.

Lulu: I talked Jason into saying that he was my brother and signing me out for a visit. I mean, I needed to see Johnny, be with him for even a few minutes. And I was and it was wonderful. And then I saw, um, Logan. I'd -- I've been seeing him. That's why I'm here. It's, uh -- I see him a lot.

Carly: And that's pretty terrifying, isn't it?

Lulu: Yeah, it is. I was very scared but I'm -- I'm, uh, I'm feeling better now.

Carly: Why do you think that is?

Lulu: I don't know. Lucky brought me back. I had my session with Lainey and talked to some people.

Carly: What people?

Lulu: Other patients. It really helps. I know I'm going to get through this. I am a lot stronger than I thought I was.

Carly: That's great.

Lulu: I mean, I am, I'm scared, you know, and I'm scared about Johnny, but the best thing that I can do is to focus on getting well. The sooner, the better.

Carly: I mean -- I know I shouldn't be so surprised that you're doing so well because you're strong and you're tough and you're resilient, but if you need someone to talk to, I want you to know you can trust me. I'm not going to judge you. And I promise you I won't tell anybody what you tell me.

Lulu: You really are the best.

Jerry: It's always a pleasure to be summoned by my little brother, but I promise no lectures about the state of your marriage, although you'd be a fool to let Carly go. Why are you so grim? I mean, we're not going to get into another fist fight, are we?

Jax: What do you know about a Russian gangster by the name of Andrei Karpov?

Jerry: My, my, my, so serious.

Jax: Come on, Jerry.

Jerry: Why do you need to know?

Jax: Well, first of all, he's staying at my hotel, but you already knew that.

Jerry: What, do you want him to leave?

Jax: Would it be that easy?

Jerry: All right, what's the problem?

Jax: Well, Carly's been, uh, flirting with him trying to get information for Jason.

Jerry: Stop her immediately. Carly shouldn't speak to the man. Tell her not to be alone with him under any circumstances.

Jax: Any particular reason?

Jerry: The man is a sadist. Keep Carly away from him. Women who cross Karpov end up dead.

[Knock on door]

Alexis: I'm in a bad mood. Enter at your own risk.

Jerry: Oh, I take it your day hasn't improved.

Alexis: No, it hasnít. It's gotten worse.

Jerry: Oh, come on, you can't work forever. I took the liberty of taking our picnic to my hotel where room service of any variety awaits.

Alexis: I can't, sorry, I canít. I'm too busy.

Jerry: Uh, something happened.

Alexis: Has it? You tell me. Have you gotten into any kind of trouble that you're trying to charm me into looking the other way?

Jerry: Look, look, I know it's a common suspicion that my interest in you, you know, is for my own protection, but I thought we were past that so I don't understand why you're trying to avoid me.

Alexis: I'm not trying to avoid you. Jerry, I'm busy. I'm the D.A. I have a murder trial pending. I have a special prosecutor that's out of control, a mayor who's driving me insane. Every time I turn around, I'm tripping over one of the Zaccharas. I'm worried about my nephew. I'm worried about Lulu. Oh, yeah, and I have grave concerns about the safety of my children. Avoiding you isn't even something that I can think of at the moment.

Jerry: Look, look, I appreciate the strain you're under. I'm well aware of the forces you're working against, but, you know, I would -- I would be honored if you would accept that my presence, however scandalous, does protect you in a hostile environment. I mean, all the monsters are not under your bed these days, darling.

Alexis: That's because one of them is in it.

Jerry: I see. Okay.

Alexis: God, I'm so -- I didn't mean to say that. I really didnít.

Jerry: No, no, no, that's fine. Get some sleep. I'll -- I'll check in tomorrow.

Sam: Yeah, I'm just, uh -- oh, I'm so glad you understand. I don't want to bring another shipment in if I'm off my game a little bit. No, it's healing. It's healing. I think it'll be fine in a day or two. Okay, bye-bye.

Lucky: Thanks. I really needed you tonight.

Sam: You know, I used to get so worried when my brother was in the hospital. And it's scary and frustrating, but I think Lulu's going to be okay. She knows you love her. She's probably fast asleep right now.

Lucky: May angels on the wings of night, watch over you till morning light.

Sam: What?

Lucky: My mom used to say that to me and my sister when we were falling asleep. I don't even know why I thought of it.

Sam: Oh, I think it's because you love them both so much.

Matt: The surgery was a success. Everything went very well.

Maxie: Epiphany, how did the surgery really go?

Matt: Oh, yes, by all means, get a second opinion, especially from a nurse. After all, I'm only the surgeon who saved the man's life, but what do I know?

Epiphany: Matthew Hunter is one of the most annoying and arrogant residents I have seen in a long time, but he is still a doctor and therefore, deserves our respect. Your constant badgering in the O.R. was a major problem. So from now on, you will give him the respect he deserves, as will my entire staff. Do I make myself perfectly clear?

Nadine: Yes.

Epiphany: As for his surgery, Dr. Hunter did a fine job. Mr. Spinelli should be up and about and into his usual antics in no time.

Maxie: Good. I'm glad that you were there.

Epiphany: Just doing my job.

Maxie: Is it okay if I see him?

Epiphany: He's resting, but be brief.

Nadine: You know, Epiphany's pretty upset with me, but I would have felt ten kinds of awful if the surgery had gone wrong because of me.

Leyla: I'm not sure I could have forgiven you, either.

Spinelli: Ah, my fondest of dreams.

Maxie: You're not dreaming, and you're not dead. I'm definitely not angel material.

Spinelli: The Jackal begs to differ.

Maxie: Please, just sleep, Spinelli, okay? I'll be here.

Carly: Hi. I got here as soon as I could. I couldn't just walk out on Lulu.

Jax: I checked out Andrei Karpov. I spoke with Jerry. And get this, my brother actually went pale when I mentioned that you were flirting with him. He said that the man is dangerous, especially toward women.

Carly: I know that. Jason already told me.

Jax: Oh.

Carly: One woman flew off a building somehow, and the other woman died of mysterious circumstances.

Jax: Well, that's just great that you already know that, then that's wonderful. Why do you always go running to the most dangerous situation that you can possibly find? And don't say it's because I walked out.

Carly: Can you please not do this?

Jax: And just because I can't figure out a way to stay in this marriage, doesn't mean that I'm going to watch you risk your life, Carly. I mean, did you even think about Morgan or me?

Carly: Can we please not have this fight, right now? Please?

Ric: What the hell?

Claudia: Get dressed.

Claire: And I thought corporate clients were demanding.

Claudia: He's going to take a rain check.

Ric: No, no, no, no, he's not. Get -- get the hell out of here.

Claudia: Johnny got caught. He's in lockup and Scott Baldwin is threatening to send him to Pentonville, so --

Ric: Yeah, Trevor can handle it.

Claudia: We had a deal. Do you remember? Hmm? You get Johnny acquitted, and you can have whatever you want from me.

Elizabeth: His fever's spiking.

Matt: We'll get him on ampicillin for the fever and, uh, check his vitals every 15.

Elizabeth: Yes, Doctor.

Maxie: 15, why every 15? Spinelli needs rest to recuperate.

Matt: Oh, yeah, that's fine. Let's just let his fever go up, and he can go into convulsions and then die.

Maxie: Listen to me, you selfish jerk, if something happens to my friend and I can trace it back to you, you're life as you know it will be over.

[Knock on door]

Jerry: Sam.

Lucky: Ignore him.

Sam: No, I canít.

[Knock on door]

Sam: I'll be right there. Hold on. Maybe I can make him tell me something incriminating.

Lucky: No, no, it's a bad idea.

Sam: Come on, Lucky, you can hide over there. We're supposed to be broken up. Let's go.

Jerry: Don't expect me to stand out here all night.

Sam: What?

Jerry: When did you become so concerned about your mother's sex life?

Sam: Oh, it's late, go away.

Jerry: Now, you see, things were going quite well between Alexis and I, and now I sense this change.

Sam: Do you? Well, maybe my mother's finally starting to see you for who you really are.

Jerry: You see, it was very rude of you to interrupt our little picnic.

Sam: Well, you are the worst thing that ever happened to my mother, and I wish you would just leave her alone.

Jerry: Oh, so you can have me for yourself?

Sam: What are you talking about?

Jerry: That would be a really interesting turn of events.

Sam: Oh, my mother is too good for you.

Jerry: And you're not? We recognized each other from the very start, didn't we?

Sam: Oh, did we?

Jerry: Yes. You've evolved, so have I, but the core is still the same. Heroics aside, you'd stop at nothing to get what you want, and you still don't understand why people get so upset about it.

Sam: I'm not like that anymore.

Jerry: Oh, because you've gotten better at hiding it. I think that you love the dark side as much as I do.

Sam: Maybe.

Jerry: You know, we've played this dart a few times, haven't we? And now we've come so close.

Sam: Nothing is going to happen between you and I as long as you're with Alexis, so maybe it's time for you to choose.

Jerry: Mm, sweet Sam. Sexy Sam. How far are you willing to take this?

Carly: I'll let you know when I'm available to be scolded.

Jax: Carly, hey. I love you, but I won't apologize for being worried about the dangerous choices you make.

Carly: I wish you could believe in me. You know, I wish you could be glad that I'm strong and resilient because not everyone's made that way, Jax. Some people break and stay broken.

Jax: What happened?

[Carly sighs]

Jax: Hmm?

Carly: I thought that I was going to see Lulu scared and sad, but she wasnít. I mean, I -- I thought she was going to be too sedated to talk. No, she was happy. She was happy, and she was going on and on and on about hope and how everything was going to be okay. She was going to be fine. She was going to get better so she could go help Johnny. It's one complete delusion.

Jax: I'm sorry.

Carly: I'm so afraid that she's going to end up like Laura, trapped in her own body, just like Michael. And like Michael, she's going to be alone, lost, and just gone.

Ric: Well, it was fun while it lasted.

Claire: Mm, very, but there will be other times.

Ric: I'm sorry. You know how clients are, especially when you're on retainer.

Claire: One time I had this client track me all the way down to -- it's along story for another day. It was hilarious.

Ric: I'm looking forward to it.

Claudia: You know, I would be happy to throw in a couple of C-notes if you'll, uh, hurry it up.

Claire: Oh, my God. She thinks I'm a hooker.

Ric: Uh, yeah, Claireís a partner in a corporate law firm in midtown Manhattan.

Claire: I can't wait to tell them down at the Harvard club.

Ric: No, don't you dare. That's not nice, come on.

Claire: Mm, ciao.

Ric: Okay.

Claire: And, um, whatever she's paying you, it isn't enough.

[Ric chuckles]

Ric: Take care. I'm allowed to have a personal life.

Claudia: Yeah, okay, well, so's my brother, and he's going to have one.

Ric: How did you track me down?

Claudia: Does it matter? I don't think it does.

[Claudia chuckles]

Claudia: I'm going to give you what you want after you earn it, so get dressed because we have work to do.

Lulu: Mom? Mom, it's me. Okay, that's okay. You said this was going to happen, so -- I just wanted to say that I, uh, love you. Hi.

Laura: It's all right. I was just resting.

Lulu: I can leave if you want.

Laura: No, no, being with you is the best medicine I could possibly have.

Lulu: Me, too.

Laura: Mm, I'm getting stronger.

[Lulu sighs]

Laura: And that feels good.

Lulu: I'm getting stronger, too.

Laura: Good.

Lulu: We're going to get better and we're going to show them, right?

Laura: Oh, yes, yes, we will.

Lulu: I just wanted to say good night.

Laura: Aw, come here.

Laura: Do you remember when you were a little girl? I used to rock you in that big chair in the living room.

Lulu: Mm-hmm, I remember.

Laura: You would fight sleep for as long as you possibly could.

[Laura chuckles]

Laura: You were so afraid that you might miss something. But then you finally let your eyes close.

Lulu: Because you would always say the same thing.

Laura: Mm. May angels on the wings of night, watch over you until the morning light.

Laura: Good night, sweet daughter. You can rest now. Everything's going to be all right.

Lulu: Good night, Mommy.
