iPod has become rather popular these days. What's your view of it--is its popularity because of its functionality, or merely because it's become a fashion statement?

I think it's both. I had an iPOD, the video 30GB one too. But I returned it because I had to pay .99 cents for each song. Also about 2 dollars for one video. I'd rather just listen to music for free on the internet, and burn them so they can be portal in my CD player. Yeah I'm cheap. But I planned to have like 1000 songs on there... oh well. A disappointment for me, but that iPOD is also expensive. :\

The only thing I have is the Creative Zen Nano Plus, which is about 512 mb and can carry to about 110 or so songs. Good enough, but it still doesn't even get all of my CD collection. I'm thinking of either getting 1 gb or just an iPod that's about 20 gb. Of course, if I do get one, I might as well get a special edition one, so that it's really worth it.

That is why I get a MP3 player instead of iPod. The video iPod is pretty useless in my opinion. You can hardly see things on the tiny screen it has. |

I'll reckon it's more of a fashion statement combined with how it's the most publicized of all mp3 players. (If they publicize more than anyone else, some types of people will be too afraid of any other brand to purchase them because they’ve, to quote directly from someone, “never heard of it before”)
iPods look so easily breakable, and while they do have many "flashy" features, those features do not make any more convenient than most other mp3 players, and they are priced so extravagantly that it automatically makes me cautious of them. Besides, those specialized iPods, like the U2 kind, are about 50 dollars more than another iPod holding an equal amount of songs. I personally have a more durable mp3 player with 1 GB of space which holds 210 songs for me, and that's enough as far as I'm concerned. I'm not going to need 1000 songs at one time, anyway. |

Actually, the greatest weakness of iPod is its battery itself; I don't know if Apple already addressed this issue.

They probably do, and they also probably release it on purpose anyway so they can come up with another battery add-on later, or releasing another more battery duarbility iPod. |

I tihnk it has to do as well with what type of file format you used. That's a factor. Of course, if you keep on going back and forth between songs, that affects battery life as well. |

For MP3 players, do you pay for the songs? Oh and yeah the iPod battery doesn't last very long >.>. Well when I had it, it was full ... then after a few hours of messing around with it, not even playing a song yet, It's like 80% empty. I've heard many complaints of the battery its self... oh well.

well for mp3 players, you can just upload the songs you have on your computer or from cd's that you may have lying around in your house. |
