The lithe paws of the hunter fell silently across the tightly-packed ice below, blue eyes glinting with excitement as her prey came into sight. It was an easy kill, but how she longed for a good chase. She stopped, mere feet away and muttered a small growl.
Ahead, the ears of a snow-shoe hare perked up fearfully. The rabbit's whiskers quivered and it made a frantic leap onto the snowy path.
She was right behind it, paws pattering through the powder and ice, motivated by the thrill of the chase and the promise of food to fuel a hungry belly.
The eyes of the rabbit flicked with hope- a corner, a cavern that could mark life to be continued. But no, this game was over in a single snapping of jaws around the animal's body as she scooped it off the ground. There was a crack of bone as she fractured the spinal chord.
She panted quietly as she laid the torn body of the hare in the snow. She closed her eyes, slowly regaining her lost equilibrium. It was a good kill; there was plenty to keep her sated until the next time a hunt presented itself.
With this, the she-wolf Deirdre began her feast.

Wasn't it summer, a moment ago? Was it autumn? Spring? The sky is falling, Melandru. The sky is falling and I don't know how to make it stop. Another flake landed on her nose, melting into oblivion and leaving a cruel chill behind. She twitched, shook her head, flicked her tail. It seemed as though Markcus were next to her, telling her to stay out of the rain or she'd get sick. His beautiful black eyes were soft and lost. "But..." Beaflure, pack Seer, wasn't aware of time passing. When Melandru chased the fierce but quite insane Cerberus from the lands of Kantasia, her life continued as normal. When the rest of the pack drifted off, leaving her and her lord alone, nothing changed. Unsocialized, left to herself, she still saw them. She still assumed they were there- she caught their faded scents on trees, she saw their pelts in the corners of her eyes. Melandru kept telling her it was just them now, just them and Markcus, who couldn't hunt to save his life and thus would never leave, and Taye, who was loyal to the last. Her lord kept telling her this, but memories and real life blended together for her, past and future so intertwined now that she never saw the present. Maybe she was mad too, now. She heard his voice, song soaring above the large and lonely Kantasia Valley, checking up on her. She wasn't sure if it was real, but out of habit she replied anyways. 'Yes, I'm here. Yes, I ate today. I drank a little. Yes, I'm still going quite mad, my lord.' Beaflure giggled a little, wincing as another flake landed on her nose. It jogged her memory finally, a flash of understanding. "Winter... snow. So it isn't summer after all." Slowly, ever slowly, the thin, lanky black wolf was being coated in the falling snow, her large violet eyes drifting closed. She hadn't imagined Melandru's call- just her own reply.
