So, me and Alex have discussed spells in relation to casting, and we've come up with a small thing that will help promote spells being cast.
We're making every combat card that can cast spells have an MP stat. Essentially, if the combat card casts a spell, the MP value is subtracted from the cost of the spell. So, a caster with a lot of MP can cast spells for a lot less. The caster can cast spells even when it has MP of 0, but the cost remains the same for the spell. At the beginning of each round, all MP is restored to max. With this rule has come a slight need for change in the rules of spellcasting. - First of all, spells that cause damage can't be cast during any phase except the Battle Phase. All other spells (including Black spells that don't inflict damage) can be cast during the Journey or Town phases. - This leads us to an important change: spells cast during a phase other than the Battle Phase don't use up a combat card's turn, so it can still take actions in other phases. - Finally, a combat card can only cast one spell during each Phase. This is to prevent a single combat card unloading a crippling series of status ailment inducing magic before combat. One spell can be cast by a combat card in each of the three phases: Journey, Battle, and Town. So, we're in the process of adding the MP stat to the FF1 database, and will be adding it to future databases as they are added. -------------------- - FFCCG Administration

Ok, so there's been a slight change again.
MP is still around, but it has replaced spell levels now. Now, a caster can only cast a spell if it has sufficient MP to fully pay the cost for the spell. If it can't, a spell can still be played by paying the cost in PP, but it will not have the full effect that casting a spell does. So, a Black Mage (with MP of 5, for example) can cast any spell with a cost 5 or less, but any higher costing spell would have to be played using PP. -------------------- - FFCCG Administration
