The Junior Comp cars of Kristie Thompson and Kaitlyn McGee will be making a demonstration run at the Auto Club Finals in Pomona Nov. 16th.
The two Junior Comp cars and the Division 7 Champion junior dragsters of Caden Willett, Brandon Helgeson, Brandon Seraphine and retiring Brittany Johnson, will be on display at the legendary LA County Fairgrounds facility. In addition to the display the Junior Comp cars have been invited to race on Sunday. Kristie will drive her Thompson Discount Tires, Suzuki powered McPhantom against Andrew Madrid driving Kaitlyn McGee’s Lucas Oil, McGee Cams, Suzuki powered Visions Junior Comp dragster. (Kaitlyn’s age prohibits her from competing at National events so she has asked fellow Lucas Oil teammate Andrew Madrid to sub for her). Time constraints only allow for one run so both teams tested at the nearby California Dragway in Fontana last weekend to prepare for the event. Thank you NHRA for allowing us to share with a large audience how great a class Junior Comp is. |

The Junior Comp cars put on a great show at Pomona. Kristie and Kaitlyn worked incredibly hard all weekend talking to fans and explaining the cars and the class. On raceday we raced just after John Force and Bob Tasca had their match race with a pair of Mustangs.
Andrew, in Kaitlyn's car, left first .010 red to Kristies' excellent .520 light. Andrew ran 6.93 and Kristie 6.86. The announcer really did a good job of explaining the class and the crowd seemed to enjoy it. The announcer made mention that the kids times to the 1/8th mile were faster than the previous pair of Force and Tasca! Great weekend, lots of exposure for the class. The kids put on a really good show. Howard and I were pretty serious and even tested the previous weekend at the nearby Fontana track as we were not going to have any practice hits at Pomona. With that many spectators my first worry was to "make sure you arm the Pingle" as we figured there would be a lot of armchair critics if we missed a shift!
Chris McGee. PS It was really a pleasure to display the car and talk to so many families about Junior Comp and the Junior Drag Racing League. We have "Uncle" George to thank for all these opportunities. |
