Was out with my dragster a couple weeks ago just playing around when my turbo started to act up. Boost was all over the place. The datalog looked like the turbo was playing hide and seek with the boost controller.

Then on my last pass of the day about half way through third gear the car nosed over a bit, surged and then fell on its face. Witnesses said the cloud of smoke was impressive. Of course I never saw it. The motor was still running smoothly and the gauges looked good so I coasted to the end of the track and drove back to the pits. Coming up the return road I could see the track owner on his four-wheeler checking out the track. Back in the pits there was a little oil on the rear of the car but not much. And now there was a rattling sound coming from the exhuast dump pipe.

Knowing the turbo was shot I called James at Performance Techniques and ordered a new center section and intake housing along with a pretty healthy upgrade. In fact, the new turbo was built to the same specifications as Handi's. Installed it last night. With the intercooler, it should be possible to make 600hp. Not that I'm planning to go there any time soon. cool.gif

More 1/4 mile abuse is on the schedule for this weekend.

Stay tuned...
