Timeline (pre-story, alternate to Earth timeline, except for one thing, though I picked 1969 as a random year for the comet orbit, but a comet did actually pass earth that year)
1969- Comet producing unusual Electromagnetic waves orbits Earth for days, and then leaves | America, and Japan begin working together on classified projects, no explanation for the sudden partnership is given.

1970- Japan-America Alliance is formed

1987- Japan-America Alliance uses its influence to effectively merge the two nations' governments

1990- Existance of highly classified Japan-America Alliance Advanced technology is leaked to the public.

2000- Current year Japan-America Alliance is working on an unknown highly classified project, a number of media, and press members have been found dead, relieved of their notes and footage, rumors of assassination and a link between JAA and the deaths begin to circulate.

Chapter 1

“My. . . .name is. . . Aka-. . . . Bakaichiban” stuttered Akaba. Akaba Kaichiban was: starting fifth grade this day at Japan America Union Academy, upset that his parents enrolled him in the boarding school program, and unaware that he just said that his last name meant “number one idiot”. The student body of homeroom 5-J burst into laughter at his foolish mistake.

“That was two years ago, and the nickname “Bakaichiban” was stuck to me by most of my classmates.” Akaba reflected on the past to himself on his first day of 7th grade, when he was tapped on the back of his shoulder. “Hi Akaba, back for another year I see” the comment was made by Megumi Tanaka, a student who, like Akaba, had been enrolled in the JAU academy's boarding school program since the fifth grade.

“Hi Megumi, yeah I'm still stuck here.”

“Well, it's not that bad is it?”

“Yeah it's that bad! My parents dumped me off here on this rock, I made a fool of myself the first day in, and every one else stuck here refuses to let it go! I don't know what it's like for you here, but I'm gonna try to bust out of this place.”

“Not again you tried 'busting out' last year, and failed every try.”

“Yeah. . . . . This plan's fool proof though!”

“Can't be, you thought it up.”

“Mmmmm. That was uncalled for.”

“If you didn't have as many bad ideas as you do I wouldn't have to remind of your mistakes.” As Megumi spoke the bell ended the discussion. It was at this point that the teacher made an announcement. “Today is club day, so everyone go to your chosen clubs for the next hour.”

“Now if you will excuse me Megumi, I have somewhere to be.” Akaba stood up and left. Megumi went to her club.

After club's end Megumi went in search of Akaba. “If he's not in Zoology, then that eliminates every club. The only place left could be his room.” When Megumi entered the room she found that the only difference between it and any other room was the computer with Akaba asleep in front of it. ”I checked every club, I thought you were still in Sci-fi, what happened?”

“I'm not registered in a club.”

“How is that possible? Membership in a club is required.”

“You see computer, I use computer. It has a lot of practical uses in general, and for my line of interests.”

“How do you expect to get away with this?”

“I think I've made that clear by now. . .by getting away from here!”

“How can that help?”

“Students aren't allowed to have their own computers, as a result there are no passwords or restrictions on the network, they got lazy, and assume any change in the information is official. I can change anything, and it's assumed to be a change made by school staff.”

“You can change anything? No that's not right. More importantly you quit a club again! Why this time, even if you are 'busting out' you should keep a low profile.”

“Same reason as the other times, I lost interest.”

“You lost interest that quickly? What makes you lose interest in things that easily?”

“It just got to be I a situation in which every day felt like that day before it, and I got bored with the routine, so I decided to drop that club.”

“Well, you left your homework in homeroom, here it is. I'm going to dinner, and then I'm going to use the school computers like we're supposed to. You can just do what suits you for now.”

“Thank you Megumi, I'm going to sleep now bye.”

“How can he sleep that much without problems? Oh well, that's a question for another day.”

Chapter 2

A few hours later Akaba woke up. He looked at his clock, and noticed that it said the current time was 9:00 AM even though it was dark out. “Weird, oh I got new emails. This one's from Megumi 'Don't forget to do your homework. See you tomorrow, Megumi'. . . .What, does she think she's my mother? This one is from 011010110001. Must be a joke or something, what's the title. 'Help me' . . . . I don't think it's a good idea, but I've never let fear obstruct me, and now won't be an exception.” Akaba clicked on the link to see one sentence above more unintelligible binary. The sentence read ”Someone, anyone who gets this message, I can't move, and I'm stuck outside in the courtyard, help me please.”

“Someone's trapped outside in the courtyard. . . the least I can do is help.” Akaba put his jacket on, snapped his goggles over his face, and left his room quietly. He walked through the west corridor of the boy's dormitories, turning left until he reached the staircase that led to the first floor. Oddly enough, the door was unlocked, so he slipped downstairs without having to unlock anything. On the first floor their were patrols, but the door out was close and the patrols were spread out. When outside he noticed that no one was patrolling the outside. “I guess when you're on an island with a secure dock no one checks the courtyard. The message should have come from somewhere around here.”

“So you got it too.” Akaba hadn't noticed, but three other guys had come out of the dormitory. “By the way thanks for opening the staircase door on the second floor. I'm Hikaru, Hikaru Sakaze, homeroom 7U. To my left is James Lauil, homeroom 5A, and to my right is Calek Smith, Homeroom 7U.”

“My name is Akaba, Akaba Kaichiban, Homeroom 7J nice to meet you all. You all got that Email huh?”

“Yeah it was received via phone, but we all received it, and got the same idea. You're name is Akaba Kaichiban, as in Bakaichiban?”

“Has it really reached other homerooms now, yes my homeroom classmates have not dropped my accident in the introduction I made two years ago. Either way we should get back to finding whoever needs help out here.”

“I knew you'd get that E-mail Akaba” Megumi interrupted as she approached them from across the courtyard “I mean if I got one, then you were bound to have something to with this too.”

“Well now that we're all here we should get to finding something” Calek added “I mean if there is actually someone in need of help around here, then we shouldn't be waiting here talking while they are in dire need of help. Megumi, and Hikaru can search South, I'll take James to search the North, Akaba you should search around the East and West, the courtyard is narrow in terms of East and West.”

“I hate to burst your bubble Calek” Hikaru started “However I believe I've found the guy in need.” Hikaru pointed to a sprawling figure lying awkwardly on top of a small shrub to the north of the courtyard's center. The person in question was fairly tall, about 7' 9'', wearing a black jacket stained red by what could only be his own blood. As the students approached this man he stirred “I see my message wasn't in vain. I just need one thing from you all, I need you to pour that can's contents over me.”

Hikaru put his hands in front of the others “How do we know we can trust you, more over how can the contents of a can help you as you are now. Am I right guys? Wait. . . . Where'd Akaba go.”

While Hikaru made his speech Akaba quietly walked around him and got the can. When Hikaru noticed he opened the can, and poured the contents on the man. “What were you thinking how do we know we can even trust this guy?”

“I just knew he needed help, and that's all that mattered.” The man stood up and moved his arm in front of Akaba.

“Thank you. Now you should find somewhere to take cover, I was tracked here and the attacker is likely to return.”

“Who was attacking you?” Akaba asked

“That honor must distinctly fall to me” growled a creature on the top of the clock-tower. “Initially you managed to elude me for some time Wizardmon, but now I know you're alive. I also now know that you have used the bio-matrix to heal yourself clever, but I will tear it from you inevitably. You have failed.”

The man smiled and tipped his hat over his face as the wind blew his coat back “Cerberumon you give me too much credit, after all if you're aim wasn't horrible I wouldn't be alive now.” The hat was thrown into the air and a leaf storm stirred around the man. When the leaves cleared only a smaller, cloaked, scarecrow like man was left. “Akaba, now would be a good time to take cover like your friends.”

“I'm fine right here.”

“If you say so. Magical game!” from Wizardmon's staff burst a flock of birds that flew around Cerberumon.

“Ha! Ha! Ha! Birds? You intend to defend yourself from me, and defeat me with birds? You were better off when I thought you were dead somewhere. Ha Ha Ha”

“Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha. Ah. Thunder Ball” Lightning traveled from one bird to the bird opposite it, going through Cerberumon in the process.

“Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Emerald Blaze.” Cerberumon's flames enveloped and destroyed the birds channeling lightning through Cerberumon. “Clever using magical game to better aim your thunder ball, but no birds, means no lightning.”

“I guess it's true you can teach dumb dogs to smash clever tricks.” Wizardmon chided.

Cerberumon snarled. “Dumb dog huh? If I were a Dumb dog I wouldn't be able to learn how to do this! Inferno Gate!” Cerberumon's gate appeared behind Wizardmon. Cerberumon jumped and tackled Wizardmon through the gate.

“Where'd they go?”

“Akaba if you ask me, all of us are better off not worrying about that Wizardmon.”

“He isn't a bad guy Hikaru, he needs our help, more than he's saying.”

The portal reopened and Wizardmon flew out, and into a window. Cerberumon left the portal next, but unlike Wizardmon he walked. “Now Wizardmon you will return to our world in pieces! Emerald Blaze!” The flames jetted forth, but hit glass, not Wizardmon. “You can't run forever! Emerald Blaze!”

“Who's running? Thunder ball!”

Lightning and fire raged through the courtyard and broke through most of the school after five minutes fire alarms were sounding, and people were leaving around the sides of the school, avoiding the courtyard at all times.

“Thunder Ball.”

“You're slipping. Emerald Blaze!” The flames hit Wizardmon square in the stomach. “As you can see I am not as unfortunate.”

“Wizardmon!” Akaba ran toward Wizardmon.

“You should have stayed behind cover.”

“I'm not about to watch you get roasted, otherwise I would've gotten that for you in vain.”

Cerberumon approached the fallen digimon and Akaba slowly “I'd say 'I hate to ruin this moment', but I'd be lying through my teeth”

“Would that be all 90 crooked, blunt wonders you keep in your mouths” Akaba stood up as he said this.

“Boy, I think you should get out of my way before I decide to take offense to those words, and torch you first.”

“Make me. I stand by Wizardmon, and you won't stop me.”

“Actually it's Wisemon now. Pandora Dialogue. It's too bad your next attack will trap you in the dark area, unable to return to this world.”

“Ha I know that trick, I'll use this instead Emerald Flame!” The flames turned black after leaving Cerberumon's mouth, and pulled him into another dimension “How! I didn't use Inferno Gate!”

“I cannot tell a lie, well at least when I use that attack, either way good bye.”

After Cerberumon disappeared, the five kids stood in front of Wisemon. “Well, I must say you all have helped me a lot, even though you mostly chose to wait. As a sign of gratitude I will plant this here. Come back tomorrow, and it will be fully grown, I invite each of you to take a bud, you will be surprised at what you will find. Pandora Dialogue. This school will be fixed, and the fire put out. I will be returning to my world now, we'll see each other again sometime.”

Chapter 3
Akaba woke up, yesterday's events were a bit of a blur to him, but he knew one thing for certain, he had to go to the plant that Wisemon grew for them. He had a bud to pick. Akaba snapped the goggles over his face as he rushed downstairs to the courtyard where he found a fully grown bush. The bush wasn't like anything Akaba had ever seen before, the leaves were all patterned like green binary from a computer, and the five buds were all shaped like tetrahedrons. Akaba picked one of the buds and held it up to the light. The bud flashed red, and Akaba instinctively let go of it. The bud spun in the air, and Akaba reached out toward it. When he touched it, there was a flash, and it appeared strapped onto his wrist. “Cool, I don't know what it does, but cool.”
Akaba walked back inside while still playing with the tetrahedron he found that a small segment on the top pushed down, and opened the rest of the tetrahedron. “Alright it's open, now what happens when I push the center.”
”NEW USER IDENTIFIED REGISTERING GENETIC SEQUENCE. . .PROCESS COMPLETE. USER NAME IS KAICHIBAN, AKABA. NEW USER PROTOCOLS INITIALIZING. DIGITALIZING GENETIC SEQUENCE, CREATING DIGI-EGG.”
“Genetic what? Digi-Egg? Hey can you explain any of this to me, I don't understand. Come on I need to know what this means!” The device shut off and closed. “Aw. Come on I don't need this. It's almost time for class, I can't deal with problems right now.” Akaba went to class, hiding the device on his arm beneath the uniform's sleeve, unfortunately the sleeve only hid it's nature. While sitting in homeroom, Megumi noticed it.
“So, what do you have there?” She said
“It's from the plant.” Akaba whispered
“You took a bud? What were you thinking, you don't even know what it does, or why he gave it to us.” Megumi started whispering as well.
“Wisemon is not a bad person, or whatever he is. We wouldn't be sitting here talking about him if he was, we'd be dead if he was.”
“How do you know that he just doesn't have some plan, or is planning to use us as tools?”
“Well I be-”
“You don't. you don't know who he is, you don't know what he wants, you don't know what he is, and you don't know why he does what he's doing.”
“You're right. Oh well.”
“Oh well? You admit that you don't know anything about this guy, and your only response is 'Oh well.' Aren't you going to get rid of it?”
“No I won't. I may not know anything about Wisemon, but I know that this thing is harmless, that, and uh I. . .can't get it off.”
“Really they don't come off. That could be a problem.”
“They? Wait you got one too, but there were five when I left the bush this morning. When did you grab one?”
“After I saw you leave with one. ? I decided to sneak over to the bush, and I picked one for myself. I held it up to the light, it glowed green, so let go of it, and it floated. I touched it, there was a green flash, and now it's on my wrist.”
“Have you opened it yet?”
“It opens? No I can't have anything to do with this until I know this thing is safe to use, so you test it out, and I'll use it when I know it's safe to do anything with.”
“It's stuck to your arm. There's not much you can do about it's inevitable involvement in your life. You know that right?”
“Just because it will never leave my arm doesn't mean I have to use it. We'll talk more about this when school's out for the day.” The day went on as usual for the rest of the school's period of instruction. Akaba returned to the plant to check up on it. He discovered that all of the buds were gone.
“That's odd, I guess other people took the rest of the devices.” Akaba reached forth, and touched the bush. Upon touch the bush disappeared into a burst of binary that dissipated into the air. “Well I guess that's it for those devices.”
“BEEP-BEEP-BEEP!”
“Huh? It's beeping. I wonder what's up” Akaba pushed the top, and the device opened.
“DIGI-EGG HATCHED. REAL WORLD EMERGENCE IN PROGRESS. INITIALIZING TRACKING PROTOCOLS.”
“There's an arrow it's pointing to the dorms. Guess I have to actually find this for myself.”
Akaba followed the arrow until it led him to a very particular room, his own. “In my own room? Well if that's where I have to go.” Akaba opened the door, and found random codes running across his computer screen ”My computer! This had better be worth the possibility that my computer breaks.” The device on Akaba's arm opened on its own will, and spun around rapidly. Noises started coming from the machine until it all ended with a bright flash of light from the computer. “So what happened?” Akaba opened his eyes to find the room seemingly unchanged. “Nothing? All that, and it ends with nothing.”
“I wouldn't say that was the case.” though Akaba looked he could not identify who was talking to him
“Who wouldn't?” he asked cautiously.
“Me, Hopmon, your digimon partner.”

Chapter 4
“What. . . are you?”

“A digimon. Didn't I already say that?”

“Well yes, but I don't know what exactly a digimon is.”

“Digimon is short for digital monster, we come from the digital world, a world entirely parallel to this one. There are many different digimon, I am Hopmon.”

“Are Wizardmon, Wisemon, and Cerberumon digimon too?”

“You are hearing the 'mon' part of their names right? I mean that should be a dead giveaway.”

“Oh. That's true. How many digimon are there?”

“You ask a lot of questions. I don't know how many there are, geez what kind of digimon are you anyway?”

“I'm a human, not a digimon.”

“Not a digimon? That isn't possible is it? Well it actually it explains why you know so little about digimon.”

“Tell me more about the digital world.” Akaba, and Hopmon talked well into the evening, and fell asleep by the time they were finished.

Akaba woke up to a faint ringing sound. “Alarm ugh. Morning! Already!” Akaba changed into his clothes in a frantic hurry. “Sorry Hopmon, I'll be back later.” Akaba rushed downstairs, ran across campus, and barely made it to homeroom on time. “Hi Megumi.”

“Where have you been?”

“Sleeping.”

“You say that so casually, like it's a natural thing.”

“Yeah well you say that like it's a bad thing!”

“Relax Akaba, I wasn't insulting you. I just don't know anyone else who sleeps in on a school day.”

“What's that supposed to mean!”

“Nothing, all I was saying is that everybody else wakes up on time, and gets here in their school uniform.”

“Huh? Gah! Do you think the teacher will notice?”

“Yes I will Akaba, you have to be responsible for getting to class on time, dressed properly. We will discuss punishment after class. In the mean time pop quiz.” Various groans could be heard amongst the class “It's from the JAU, and because we're the JAU academy it's mandatory. Relax, the questions are easy, and nothing dates farther than the past 31 years. It still counts for a grade.”

“Piece of cake. Question 1 have digital signatures been known to be self-sustaining? Yes, I mean Hopmon is self-sustaining. Question 2. . .” The test took most of the period, and Akaba found that the questions all seemed easy for him to answer. Grading of the quiz took the remainder of the period.

“You all get the rest of the day off, enjoy the free time.” Most of the class left fairly quickly “don't even think about sneaking out of here Mr. Kaichiban.” Akaba stopped tiptoeing to the door. “Your punishment is going to be 7 days of tutoring, effective tomorrow. You won't have to be tutored Saturday, and Sunday.”

“What! I don't need tutoring!”

“Maybe not in math or science, but this test score is atrocious.”

“A Zero? I answered every question, and I was sure of every answer!”

“Code can not sustain itself Akaba, that's common knowledge, and the rest of the questions dealt with history. Either way Miss Tanaka will be tutoring you since you two seem talk a lot.”

“What, so you're going to punish her too? That's just wrong no matter how you look at it. Oh, I probably shouldn't have said that aloud.”

“You've earned 17 days of tutoring, same terms, don't make me change my mind, or you will regret it.”

Akaba left in search of Megumi to inform her of the tutoring situation, and noticed interesting indents on the walls of the school. After a prolonged search he found her in the courtyard. “Megumi, You've been appointed as my tutor due to the incident this morning.”

“Okay.”

“Okay?”

“Yeah, I started a tutoring service, but no one has signed up so far. I have a few questions for you though. Let's start with what's with the indents?”

“Why would I know?”

Megumi reached into her backpack, and pulled out Hopmon. “Because this, says that it knows you, and that you know it. Oh, I've already asked, and it's not Wizardmon, so don't even try to use that as a lame excuse.”

“Akaba! Hopmon missed you very much. Oh.” Hopmon cleared it's throat “sorry, I started talking in the third person.”

“Megumi, this is a digimon, they're related to the devices from the shrub, they come from the digital world, and in many varieties. Wizardmon, Wisemon, and Cerberumon were also digimon”

“So I'm going to get one of these too?”

“Excuse me.” Hopmon was ignored.

“Did you open it, and use it?”

“Yes.”

“Then yes.”

“Excuse me.” Hopmon was still ignored

“Is it going to be like Hopmon?”

“I don't know, I haven't seen anyone else with a digimon. Did you tell the others?”

“Akaba.” Hopmon was still ignored

“Yes. Everyone else who was with us on the night we met Wizardmon had one, well except for James, we all activated our devices at the same time.”

“Akaba!”

“What is it Hopmon? Whoa you don't look too good.”

“I don't feel well either.”

“What's the matter? Did you feed him?”

“No, I didn't.”

“Are you hungry Hopmon? Huh what's up with this thing.”

“DIGIVOLUTION.”

“Hopmon digivolve to Monodramon.”

“Oh. It's like when Wizardmon became Wisemon, he got stronger, and better in all respects, it's just that Wizardmon didn't have a partner.”

“Akaba, I'm Monodramon, and the fact that you were able to help me digivolve, tells me that we are tamer, and digimon, a bond stronger than magnetism.”

Chapter 5

“Megumi, gather everyone else, and we'll meet back here at 11:00. By then you should all have a digimon, and we can discuss where we go from then.”

“Right, should I get James too?”

“He doesn't have one of these, and it would be way past his bed time, let little guy sleep.”

“He's only two years younger than us.”

“Oh yeah. I forget sometimes, he's kinda short for his age.”

“You shouldn't judge him by his looks, he's smart for his age. He may be in homeroom 5A, but he's passing classes typically taught to kids in 10U.”

“Yeah, and I'm in homeroom 7J, and passing classes in 7J.”

“Not after that quiz you're not.”

“Meh. Just tell everyone to be here at 11:00, except James, I don't want to make him feel any worse about not having a digimon.” The rest of the day went along without many surprises. When 11:00 hit Akaba, Megumi, Hikaru, Calek, and their digimon showed up in the courtyard at eleven.

Akaba started when they all gathered “Alright, I think the easiest way to start this is to start, and one by one we'll introduce our digimon. I'll start, this is my digimon Monodramon.”

Hikaru continued “This is Dorimon.”

“Mine is Babydmon!” Megumi said cheerfully.

“My partner's name is Kyokyomon.” Calek finished.

“Why is yours bigger?” Hikaru complained to Akaba.

“Remember when Wizardmon became Wisemon? The same thing happens with the rest of the digimon, the call it digivolution.”

“So they'll get bigger, How much bigger?” Calek asked

“I don't know, if they get too big obviously won't be able to hide them anymore.”

“Well until Dorimon gets bigger, most people think I'm carrying a throw pillow.”

“He won't be Dorimon for too much longer if he digivolves as fast as Monodramon did.”

“What do you propose we do then?”

“For now we keep them hidden, if anyone else found out, they would freak out on a level that I don't even want to think about.”

“What happens when the situation changes?”

“My answer for what we do changes.”

“In other words you don't know?”

“As long as we can keep them hidden, then we should. I mean they are our partners, even you must know that Hikaru. We can't just toss our partners out to fend for themselves, I say we find a way to make sure that they can stay hidden.”

“We won't have to worry about that for a while anyway.”

“Right, because now you have to worry about me!” A voice boomed

“Who's there? Show yourself!”

“I'm standing on top of the clock-tower, I mean come on! It can not be that hard to see me! I am Psi!” The figure was wearing a black jacket, black shorts, black shoes, and a white mask with the Greek letter “Psi” engraved in crimson upon the forehead region.

“Who are you?”

“What do you think the point of the mask is? Genius. None of you may know who I am, but I know all of you by name and face.”

“What do you want?”

“Nothing too specific, I think I'll start with this, Veedramon attack!”

“V Breath Arrow!” Veedramon's attack soared over the tamers, and smashed into the actual school building causing it to collapse.

“WOO HOO! That was fun! What's next I wonder?”

“Hey buddy.” Akaba began “You should stop now, or we're gonna have a problem.”

“Don't make me laugh! That's the buildings' job. You may have me in numbers, but Veedramon is more powerful than all of your digimon, even your Monodramon. A problem, you tamers pose as much of a threat as the other people at this school.”

“We'll win, just watch!”

“I'd rather participate than sit on the sidelines. Veedramon get them, use V breath arrow.”

“Go get him Monodramon!”

“You can't be serious.”

“Why not Hikaru?”

“His digimon is more than twice the size of your digimon, He'll get mashed in less than 5 minutes.”

“What about you guys, aren't you going to help?”

“Yeah right, Dorimon isn't going to be putting his life on the life.”

“Maybe you should be taking this up with him.”

“Metal drop!”

“Beat Knuckle!”

“Hot gas!”

“Metal Straw!”

The attacks were largely ineffective, and Veedramon didn't seem to feel a thing, as he continued toward the tamers. The devices, with the exception of Akaba's, started beeping almost in unity.

“What's up with yours?”

“It's not like any of us know, wait something is happening.”

“DIGIVOLUTION!”

“Dorimon digivolve to. . .”

“Babydmon digivolve to. . .”

“Kyokyomon digivolve to. . .”

“Dorumon!”

“Dracomon!”

“Ryudamon!”

“Ha! Now you're outnumbered, and they're strong enough to defeat you.”

“We'll see, Veedramon, just take out the digimon, the tamers can take a dive after that.”

“Cutter shoot!” Veedramon shot 4 blades of wind, one toward all of the other digimon.

“Tail Smash!”

“Beat Knuckle!”

“Metal Cannon!”

“Helmet Reversal!” The wind blades were intercepted by their targets, and the one sent toward Ryudamon was reversed upon Veedramon.

“Metal Cannon!”

“Beat Knuckle!”

“Baby Breath!” Veedramon braced for the impact, as he was hit by four attacks, including his own.

“Hm. Oh well, Veedramon degenerate”

“Veedramon de-digivolve to Veemon”

“We'll see, and fight again tamers. You can't keep winning, even if you get more powerful, I'll get more powerful more quickly, and in the end, I'll be the one standing on the clock-tower, victorious.” Psi held up his hand, and there was a bright flash. When the flash died, Psi and Veemon were gone.

Chapter 6

“This is very bad Megumi, we should be taking this more seriously.” The current day was just after the tamers had fought against Psi. After the battle, they unanimously decided that for better or worse they had to keep their digimon around in case of more threats. Currently Akaba was talking to Megumi about the issue of Psi, and the fact that he knew who all of the tamers were. “He knows who we are, and we don't even have a clue as to who he is.”

“You just figured that out, did you?”

“Yeah Monodramon brought it up this morning why do you ask?”

“Maybe, and I'm not too certain! it's slightly possibly, but you shouldn't take this too seriously! That the rest of us figured that out last night.”

“Oh. Right.”

“I bet you also figured out that he, or she could easily reveal our digimon, and end this whole thing too right?”

“Actually, that hadn't occurred to me yet.”

“No, you're not serious are you?”

“I'm completely serious, it hadn't occurred to me that he could reveal it all.”

“Why not?”

“Well, if he did, then the question would arise about how he knew about this.”

“He, or she could lie.”

“Yeah, but then we could reveal his digimon too.”

“He, or she could lie.”

“How does that relate?”

“If he, or she lies by saying something along the lines that we're only saying that so that he, or she will take a fall too, then he, or she won't be suspected. Why are you so sure that Psi is a guy anyway?”

“Maybe, It's only a small possibility, but there's a tiny chance, and I'm not certain of this, but there is a small chance that it was the voice.”

“Don't mock me!” Megumi smacked Akaba

“Ow! What was that for?”

“The mocking me part of that speech.”

“You did the same thing to me!”

“And what, did you do about that?”

“Nothing.”

“And that is why I got away with hitting you.”

“Well anyway, if Psi accuses us, then we can prove he has one too by defeating Veedramon in public!”

“I don't know about that, Psi seems to know more about digimon than we do, more importantly his digimon is just stronger than all of our digimon combined. If his gets any more powerful too quickly, then he could be too powerful for our digimon. That's not what's really bothering me though.”

“What's really bothering you then?”

“We all saw Psi, and Veedramon destroy the actual school building here, but here we are, not even 24 hours later, walking inside of the same building, fully repaired and everything.”

“Do you think Wisemon had anything to do with it?”

“I was going to ask you the same question.”

“I don't know you're going to have to do the thinking on this one.”

“That's original. Hm.” After a long pause of deep thought Megumi concluded “No, I don't think Wisemon is responsible for this. If he was there would be more to it, he would have stopped Psi, warned us, or help us in some way. Something, or someone else is responsible for this, and I'm not sure if that's a good thing.”

“If something else is responsible, then we have four continuing missions, we have to find out who Psi is, learn more about the digital world, figure out who is working so hard to keep this under the radar, and to stop Psi at every turn. If we could get everyone together this afternoon we could work on getting that information.”

“But that's when I'm supposed to be tutoring you, and you really need the tutoring.”

“Yeah, but this is more important, if Psi goes unchecked he could destroy everything here, and hurt everyone. He doesn't even seem to have a reason, or care that people are being hurt.”

“I understand, I'll tell the others, it's room 009”

“Why not just say room 9?”

“Because I can choose not to.” The four tamers met up back in school room 009, and started researching the digital world.

“Why exactly aren't we working on finding out who fixed the school in less than a day?” Akaba asked

“Oh, right.” Hikaru started “Let's start on that, so what clues do we have so far? Oh that's right! We don't have any.”

“Oh right let's just focus on this then.”

“Sorry to interrupt, but I'm looking for an Akaba Kaichiban, I was told that was you.” none of the tamers noticed that near the end of that conversation, a man wearing the cliché tuxedo, and sunglasses combo had entered the room.

“Yes I'm Akaba Kaichiban, who are you?”

“That's not important, you are to come with me, do you understand?”

“I understand.” The man in the suit led Akaba to an office in the faculty building, that Akaba hadn't seen before.

“Akaba Kaichiban, homeroom 7J, 12 years old. father is in charge of JAU Cybernetics, mother is the lead scientist at JAU D.I.S. Parents currently, divorced, after enrollment? That's interesting. Of course, that's not what I am here, I'm here to discuss the test you took yesterday. Your answers were 100% wrong, statistically speaking, it would be impossible for you to have guessed all of them incorrectly. This leaves two possibilities, either you intentionally picked the answers you knew were incorrect, or you honestly believed that the answers that you picked, were correct. Now, this is a very serious question, did you pick answers you knew were wrong, or did you truly believe that your answers were correct?”

“What's this about?”

“Answer the question.”

“Not until I know more.”

“Funny, this takes me back.”

“What are you talking about?”

“It's not important, since you are unwilling to simply answer the question, I'll just have to find my answer for myself, you're free to go.” as Akaba left the room he was interrupted “Oh, by the way, you should tell your friends not to get too deep over your heads. You'll find that life's less thrilling when you're wanted by the government of what were once two separate nations.” For a moment, Akaba stopped completely taken aback, then he closed the door behind him, and began returning to the others.

Chapter 7
Akaba opened the door to the room 009, the fact that he was taken aback was reflected in the dropped jaw he was sporting when he entered “Akaba! What happened? What was that about? Wait, you don't look so good, are you okay?”
“That guy” Akaba started “h-he knew things, things that I d-didn't know.”

“Ha ha ha ha ha! Is that all?” Hikaru started “Lots of people know things that you don't know. Why is it so startling now?”

“He knew things about my life that I didn't know!” Akaba stormed of furiously leaving the others behind.

“Something that guy said really must have gotten to Akaba. Hikaru, do you can you look him up? Calek, I need you to continue researching anything you can find about digimon, or the digital world. I'm going to talk to Akaba.”

“Hold on Megumi, Calek should be able to continue his search for Digimon and the digital world alone, but I don't even have a name! What am I supposed to do?”

“Start by finding a name, either in the school's electronic records, or a physical piece of information.” With this Megumi left in search of Akaba. She started by looking for him in his room, but found only Monodramon, who didn't know where Akaba was. “Well that's great, now I don't know where to look!” Megumi searched most of the school grounds, and asked people if they had seen him, but everywhere she looked she didn't find him, and nobody that she asked knew. After a few hours, she gave up, and returned to room 009 to check on the progress of research. “Calek, what do you know so far?”

“Well, All of the information I found was either irrelevant, or followed another, more interesting trend. The relevant information, much like most of the irrelevant, was found through a web search, and all has one common factor: it all comes from unknown, unvisited, personal web pages. Meaning that the information is either restricted in the government, or that it's largely unknown to the public, which is bad news for us, in that we won't find any more information.”

“Well that's bad. What about you Hikaru, What did you learn?”

“What I learned takes out the bad news from what he learned. See I searched first through the school's files, but no record of anyone matching his description came up. As a result I decided to steal his name tag, so we could have a name to go on, since the face wasn't doing it. I found the name plate on the desk in his office, it read David Oknair, so I searched the school files for him. My search revealed that David Oknair passed away two years ago, his photo was removed and everything. I saved that page's information, and helped Calek for a bit, when he brought up that the government might be involved, I rechecked the page on David Oknair. The page had been completely reformatted, they added doctorates, a photo matching the guy who talked to Akaba, and edited the page entirely. Meaning, once again one of two things, either the school edited the page to reinstate him, or someone else has hacked the school's network to make this guy David Oknair as much as falsified documents can.”

“Which means I need to find Akaba now, so we can see if we can put any of this together. Can you two save your findings to a flash drive?”

“Sure.” Hikaru answered “Why?”

“If the school didn't reinstate him, then we don't want anyone finding the files we just uncovered.” Megumi once again left room 009, and went in search of Akaba. This time she found him in his room. “Finally, I found you Akaba. We need to talk.”

“Why?”

“Because we need to put the information that we've gathered together, and for that I need to know what that strange guy told you.”

“Forget it.”

“What! Why?”

“I don't want to talk about it.”

“What did he tell you?”

“I said I don't want to talk about it!”

“Akaba, I need to know what he told you, it could mean a lot toward our research, let's start with something less personal, why did he take you to his office?”

“He wanted to ask me about the score I got on yesterday's quiz.”

“Why?”

“He refused to say”

“What did you tell him?”

“That I wouldn't answer without knowing more about why he was asking.”

“Then what?”

“He said he would figure it out for himself, and that was the end of it.”

“That's everything?”

“No, but I said that I didn't want to talk about it, come on let's get back to the others.”

“No need, they should be headed here, do you still have your computer?”

“Yeah, I just push the red button see.” Akaba pushed the red button, and the desk's top opened. A platform below began lifting the computer to the top of the desk. “So when are others getting here?”

“How is it that you have a computer in your room?” Hikaru asked “students aren't allowed their own computers.”

“I buried it in an airtight box on the first day, before school. If my parents either missed the box, or noticed that my computer was missing, they never bothered to tell the school. What do you have?” Hikaru held up the flash drive. “Okay then.” Akaba snatched the flash drive, and plugged it into the computer. “He's David Oknair? No the documents were falsified. Calek what did you find?”

“All of the information on digimon that's available to the public is on individually run sites, that are largely unvisited, and lacking in information.”

“I'm willing to bet that the government is involved in this.”

“How did you know that the documents were fake? I didn't save the original file.”

“Oknair's current degrees match his current position, but his degrees from when he actually worked here are completely different.”

“Akaba you failed that test anyway, why was he interested in your score?”

“It was how I failed it, and how well I failed it.”

“Could you be more specific?” Before Akaba had time to answer a large stomp echoed from outside of the building.

“Sorry Megumi, it's time to rock and roll!” Akaba and Monodramon charged out first and showed no signs of slowing down “This time Psi is going to lose.”

When Akaba and Monodramon made it outside they found to no surprise that Psi was back standing atop Veedramon's head. “Well I see that you fixed the building I broke yesterday, Don't worry I can fix that. Ha ha ha ha ha!”

“No if me and Monodramon have anything to say about it you won't!”

“Do you?”

“Do I what?”

“Do you have anything to say about it?”

“Yes, yes I do.”

“Oh. Well okay then. Veedramon, attack!”

“V-Breath Arrow!”

“Monodramon, we have to avoid getting hit while the others catch up. Don't bother trying to overpower him, just try to keep him busy.” Akaba whispered

“Right.” Akaba and Monodramon dived in opposite directions to avoid getting hit as the V breath arrow crashed into the building.

“Nice aim steak breath, fortunately for you it's three strikes you're out.”

“V-Breath Arrow!” Akaba once again leaped out of the way as the attack demolished the newly rebuilt school building.

“Oh yeah! It's almost as fun to watch the second time, as it was the first!”

“Hey lizard brain! Maybe you should stick to eating bugs, shooting target almost half your size seems to be to hard for you.” Monodramon teased.

“I'll show you hard! Dodge this, V-Breath Arrow MAX!”

The stream of energy came toward Monodramon who, once again, jumped to to the side, but this time Veedramon maintained the stream of energy, and turned toward Monodramon.

“Ah! What do I do?”

“Just keep running Monodramon!”

Sirens sounded, and people began to evacuate from every building left standing, all the while Monodramon ran counter clockwise until Veedramon had to stop attacking halfway through slicing into the girl's dormitories. “Don't worry Akaba!” Akaba turned as he heard this, and saw the other three tamers with their digimon “Reinforcements have arrived.”

“Ha! It worked, what now Psi? Veedramon is tired, and has four digimon ready to kick his butt!”

“You think I didn't see through your plan? It was obvious, anyone could have known that you were stalling, but even so the school is almost destroyed, I've almost won!”

“Close only counts with horseshoes, and weapons of mass-destruction.” Calek added.

“Eh. Attack, Veedramon!”

“V-Breath Arrow!”

“You all prepare to strike, I'll intercept his attack” Ryudamon said.

“Right!” the other digimon said in unity.

“Helmet reversal!” The V-Breath Arrow was weaker than most of Veedramon's usually were, and was easily reflected

“Find a new trick, it won't work twice in a row against the same enemy.” Veedramon evaded his own attack, if only barely.

“Now!” On cue Monodramon, Dorumon, and Dracomon started their coordinated attack.

“Metal Cannon!” Dorumon aimed the metal spheres to strike Veedramon's only planted leg, knocking Veedramon to the ground.

“Baby Breath!” Dracomon began lightly roasting Veedramon as it was joined by the continued use of Dorumon's Metal cannon.

“Katana Attack!” Ryudamon's attack fired a red katana into Veedramon's stomach setting up the stage for the final blow.

“Beat Knuckle!” Monodramon delivered a punch to the katana launched by Ryudamon, defeating Veedramon, and reverting him to Veemon.

“Ah, not again! Veemon, store data!”

“STORING DATA“ Veemon's body became data before entering Psi's device.

“Until next time tamers!” Psi made a quick motion followed by a bright flash, and he was gone.

Chapter 8

“It's a good thing Psi accidentally showed us that trick.” Commented Hikaru as the tamers returned to the other students, blending in seamlessly. As they watched the school's destruction Akaba noticed Oknair keeping the conversation he was having on his phone unusually discreet. “I wonder what he's talking about.”

After Oknair shut his phone off he moved to the front of the body of people and began to speak “Students, and faculty you will be pleased to know that the JAU will have the School rebuilt by tomorrow morning. In the mean time they are sending a boat to meet our needs for the time being, and to keep us out of the way of the construction workers while they work.” The Tamers moved out on to the cruise liner when it arrived, and got rooms close enough to each other that they could discuss the issues at hand.

“All right let's start with what we know before moving on to idle speculation” Calek began “First off digimon information is not known widely among the public, two Mr. Oknair isn't who he claims to be, and three he has ties to the JAU. Akaba, I assume that you would like to start off the speculation.”

“Sure, Oknair has ties to the JAU, and isn't Oknair. I think that he must be a government operative.”

“Please, why would there be a hidden operative at our school?” Hikaru chided “All I can say on what we've found is that the JAU has probably been rebuilding the school.”

“That's probably true, but with the JAU's resources, why would it take the night to complete?” Megumi added.

“That's an interesting point Megumi.” Calek added ”Did anyone else find it odd that the builders needed to be alone for their work, or that Oknair went to the trouble of getting this boat set up when the village on the island has enough space and rooms by far to hold everyone? More importantly, why would the JAU rebuild their school, and send a boat like this to just anyone in, or out of the JAU? I think Akaba is right, Oknair works for the JAU, and moreover holds a powerful position in its ranks.”

“Okay then, I think the point everyone is missing” Hikaru started “Is why would the JAU bother coming, investigating, and fixing the school? They'd have to have a motive. I mean, the recent destruction doesn't seem severe enough to an average eye to warrant JAU attention. What do you think Calek, how could the JAU have interest in recent events?”

“My research proved that if the government had information on digimon it was classified, maybe they know, it would explain everything.”

“How?”

“Hikaru, take the hypothetical. You are in charge of the biggest nation on the globe, the JAU in this case. You are aware of the existence of powerful, destructive, digital monsters. You discover a few incidents at the national boarding school, in which it's possible that Digimon were involved. Knowing of the dangers of these creatures, Does an undercover investigation seem like a far-fetched idea?”

“Well, no.”

“Okay then, going on that as our current theory let's get some rest, can't stop Psi without sleep.” With that the tamers went to sleep.

“What do you think Psi will try now?” Akaba and Megumi were walking to room 009, and Akaba brought up the issue of what Psi would do next. “I mean he has to know now that Oknair will get the school fixed whenever it breaks.”

“He doesn't have a lot of options, but he won't stop trying to finish his mission, no matter how pointless it seems.” When Megumi and Akaba arrived they found Calek and Hikaru at work.

“Do you have anything?”

“Akaba, what could we research? Calek found out yesterday that no one knows what we do. I found out that our mystery guy isn't who he says he is.”

“Then figure out more about who he claims to be. Learn more about the real David Oknair.”

“Is there anything else I could be wasting my time on?”

“Hikaru, you could keep an eye out for Psi.”

“Sounds good, don't know when or what he'll strike, best to be prepared.” Hikaru left, and the others began researching David Oknair.

After a few hours Akaba got a hit “Alright so he's not dead so much as missing, presumed dead. Although after two years that's almost certain.”

“What good does that do us?”

“Not much, but there is no footage of him leaving the island during the disappearance. Nobody knows how, or why he left. More importantly, it lets us know that there is further reason for federal interest in recent events.”

Calek stared outside the window, watching the sun set while Akaba, and Megumi continued conversing ”Do you think he chose David Oknair to lead us? Like a clue.”

“Megumi, I'm not sure he knew of our situation, these are probably the few footprints he forgot to sweep up.” Calek watched as the sun disappeared, leaving only pitch-darkness in the glass, not even Calek's reflection showed itself. He swiveled his chair in preparation for joining the debate, when that struck him as odd.

“Akaba, Megumi, look through the window, what do you see?”

“Honestly, nothing.”

“Same here.”

“Right, there were no clouds today, so the stars should be visible, but even if a sudden cloud cluster approached, we'd still see our reflections in the window. Stay here.” Calek went outside to the window, he tapped the glass, jumped, waved, yelled, and then went back into the room. “Did you hear or see anything through that window while I was gone?”

“No.”

“Nothing.”

“That's it then, the buildings, are now built, so that only intense sound, and light can enter them.”

“Bet I can find a room that isn't.”

“My complimentary finger of blame would point to Oknair, but we need to look up one thing first.” As Calek started typing, the computer froze, and shut off.

Hikaru burst into the room yelling “Psi's out in the courtyard!”

“Alright then! Let's go do what we do best, fighting off Psi.” Akaba said as he started running out toward the courtyard.

When the tamers arrived they saw Psi and Veedramon waiting for them “glad to see you could make it tamers.”

Akaba snapped a branch off of a bamboo chute planted to the right of the exit of the building “You guys can take Veedramon, I'll go after Psi.”

The other tamers and their digimon surrounded Veedramon while Akaba approached Psi “You're going to fight me with a bamboo chute? I've mastered 4 martial arts: Judo, Kendo, Kung fu, Aikido, and Karate. I've studied fencing, and sword fighting styles from both Europe and Asia. What gives you the impression that a bamboo chute can be any more helpful in fighting me?”

“I've got a question too, What are you up to? You were just standing here when we arrived, so obviously you're not trying to break the school.”

“It made sense to break you all first.”

“Not likely.” Akaba then struck at Psi from the left. Psi parried the attack with his right arm.

“See if I hadn't blocked with my left hand it wouldn't have adequately displayed the level of difference between our abilities in physical combat.”

“I didn't understand a word of that, well 19 words of that. I do know, however, that you are going to lose this fight.” This time Akaba tried a flurry of blows in a variety of locations each was blocked from an incredibly obscure angle.

“Do you understand now? I am a better fighter than you are, I can defeat you in combat with almost any disadvantage. How can you continue fight me under these conditions?”

“Because I know we can win!” Akaba Made a long, powerful, vertical strike, but the chute was blocked by Psi, and knocked into the air.

Psi made a flurry of strikes to 19 of Akaba's different pressure points and nerve clusters. While Akaba was knocked off balance Psi poked his forehead. Akaba fell to the ground, incapacitated, and temporarily paralyzed. Psi caught the bamboo chute, and lowered it in front of Akaba's face. “See? If I can render you helpless to defend yourself from whatever I do next more quickly than you could make an attack on me that I didn't parry how can you win? More importantly did it ever occur to you to get help from your digimon.”

“Well, uh, no, but I said 'we' not 'I', take a look.” As Akaba spoke the other tamers and their three digimon put the final blow on Veedramon. “See, three digimon can take on Veedramon, and when you can't give him orders, It doesn't get harder. You may not be a fair opponent against me, but I can still easily provide a distraction for the others to use for a quick fight. Not to mention you just gave me a clue as to your identity. You won't have a mask for long.”

Psi returned the newly degenerated Veemon to the device “What difference does it make if you know the face behind the face you beat?” he said as he walked away.

“Now wait up, I'm not done!” As Akaba spoke Psi dropped his hand, and white smoke surrounded his prior location, when the smoke cleared, Psi was gone.

Chapter 9

“Psi said he mastered five martial arts, How many people in the world could qualify in that?”

“On the planet, about 375 people.”

“Just people who are enrolled, or employed at the school, and they have to know fencing, and sword fighting styles from Europe, and Asia.”

“If we were talking 50 years ago, we'd have a much smaller list, but I mean we're talking 125 people. Do you have anything more specific?”

“Limit the martial arts to only Judo, Karate, Kendo, Aikido, and Kung fu.”

“25 people, including James, but we already checked him.”

“I'll check again, and if not, James might be able to help us anyway.”

Calek, and Akaba had been working in room 009, while Hikaru, and Megumi did a more thorough investigation of David Oknair, and of the test he was interested in. Calek and Akaba unanimously decided to try, and find out if they could identify Psi by given information the result, a list of 25 possible candidates. Akaba left room 009 to check the people on the list, starting with James. He found James in his Dorm room. “James, let me see your arm.” James held out his arms, but Akaba saw no device. “Thanks, bye.” After an hour and a half, Akaba returned to room 009.

“I didn't find a device on anyone listed.”

“Well that makes one project that busted” Hikaru started “ours however, did not. We tailed Oknair for hours, and the results, were worth it.”

“Well what do you have?” Akaba inquired

“As you know, Hikaru and Megumi tailed Oknair while we tried to identify Psi. Now what they've discovered is that he is in fact a JAU Officer.”

“Though we couldn't determine what branch he was a part of,” Megumi continued “or how high up in the chain of command he was, we found a badge confirming him as a JAU operative.”

“There's more,” Hikaru interrupted “he is David Oknair, both the real Oknair, and the one who worked here before. It doesn't explain his disappearance, or his return. The point is that he is who he says he is, no less, yet more.”

“Alright then Calek and I will keep doing research, you two, keep a watch out for Psi.” As Hikaru and Megumi left the room Akaba remembered what Oknair had said on their first encounter and logged in to a computer, and started whispering to himself “D. I. S. enter. Here is the official site, and only hit.” Akaba tried to enter, but there was one obstacle, it was encrypted with a high security password lock. “Hey Calek, do you know if James is any good with computers?”

“He's good from what I hear, but you should ask him.”

Akaba left room 009 once again to head to James' room, upon arrival he impatiently knocked on the door. “I'll be with you in 5 seconds.” James said from inside. True to his word upon the passage of 5 seconds James was at the door. “Akaba, what do you need?”

“How good are you with computers?”

“I passed the senior level class for all aspects, why?”

“I need your help.”

James and Akaba returned to room 009, and Akaba showed James the page. “Tough problem, done.”

“That quickly?”

“It needs to finish loading, but yeah.”

“You learned how to do that from a 12th grade level computer course?”

“No. I learned that while getting my certification to repair computers as a professional.”

“Your parents must be proud of you.”

“Yeah, sure. You know I'm surprised that no one has seen those digital monster devices quite yet.”

“We try not to let anyone see, but they don't come off you know.”

“Have you tried engaging an active stealth function?”

“No, didn't come to mind.”

“Well here's your site, let's check it out.”

“And, D.I.S. is, the Digital Investigations … Squad. Let's check out what we can find out here, in officials. Madame Director no, Department of Research no, Digital Incident Response Team no, here Lead investigator David Oknair.” James clicked the link.

“It's an in-depth profile.” James and Akaba read over his profile paying attention to two important details. “It says that he was brought to the digital world 2 years ago, and was hired one year ago after being hostage to Doctor V. Here at the bottom it says 'Doctor V's experiments on Oknair made him difficult to track, and fight. If he turns against us, all units are authorized to use lethal force to subdue him.' This page, these pages, are all about a specific person, so if they have to they can easily take them down.”

“That's a little disturbing. Thanks for the help James.” James left, and Akaba was beginning to talk to Calek about what he discovered. “Well, Oknair works for the D.I.S. Branch of the JAU.”

“What? How did you find out which branch he was in?”

“I had James bypass their personal site's security. He holds the position of lead investigator, sent to places, basically to find out whether or not the Digital Incident Response Team needs to interfere.”

“How did you know to look there.”

“I didn't.” Calek spent 5 minutes discussing the semantics of “I didn't”, when Megumi interrupted.

She stood in the doorway panting while Akaba and Calek stared at her “Well, why else would I be running here!” Akaba, Megumi, and Calek ran outside to see Hikaru staring down Psi, who was once again favoring the top of the clock-tower.

“Well Akaba and Calek so nice of you to join us. Where are my manners! Welcome back Megumi.”

“Alright, blah blah long story short you and grumpy over here have been having a stare down for a while now, so what's your plan this time?” Akaba asked impatiently

“Oknair, dead.”

“That's your plan?”

“Yeah, so?”

“Well, I thought it would be more elaborate, with some kind of twist, or something.”

“Oh, right! The twist!” Psi snapped his fingers, and from his device shot a blue burst that split into red, and gold waves that solidified into Redveedramon and Goldveedramon. “Twist, we can split two aspects our personality into two separate bodies. Happy? I bet you are!” Psi finished.

“Hikaru, Calek, you take on pigskin over there. Megumi and I can handle Midas.”

“Oh fun we can toy with all of you at once” the Veedramons and Psi said in union. “V-Breath Arrow MAX!” both Veedramons fired fully powered V-Breath Arrows toward the tamers. Hikaru, Megumi, and Akaba got out of the way, while Calek, and Ryudamon stood their ground.

“Helmet reversal!” Ryudamon cringed slightly as a V-Breath Arrow was redirected.

“We're smarter than to get hit by that old trick.” They jumped and the V-Breath arrow only scraped Redveedramon's lower leg. The long battle ensued, with Dorumon, and Monodramon doing most of the damage, until Goldveedramon grabbed Dracomon. “Yeah now we've got your partner, and you'd be stupid to make us hurt him.” Goldveedramon started squeezing while Akaba stood by helpless to do anything knowing it would hurt Dracomon. While Goldveedramon started to put on serious pressure Dracomon's horns began to glow. “That's not a good sight.”

“G Shurunen!” Dracomon began to pelt Goldveedramon with energy bullets fired from its mouth. As Goldveedramon was pelted by Dracomon's attack Akaba noticed he had the same injury from when Redveedramon was hit by his own V-Breath arrow.

“Hit his leg Monodramon!”

“Beat Knuckle!” The attack was well placed, and knocked Goldveedramon off balance, while Dracomon's barrage felled him. When he fell Redveedramon fell as well, and the two merged into an unconscious Veemon. Psi, transmitted Veemon back to his device, and disappeared.

Chapter 10

It had been about a week since Wizardmon's arrival, and Akaba was with the other tamers in room 009 after class discussing Psi, and the other issues at hand. “If we know Oknair is here trying to investigate whether or not Digimon are influencing anything here, than the best thing to do is let Psi finish him.”

“We don't need to let Psi waste anyone.”

“What! If Psi wastes him, then we won't have to worry about whether or not he knows of our digimon.”

“If we let him kill Oknair, then we aren't any better than he is.”

“And if we let him live, then we get to enjoy worrying about what he'll do once he knows that we've had direct contact with digimon.”

“Are you saying that it's more important to you to know if you won't be accountable, than to know if what we're doing is right?”

“I'm saying in the long run we help more people by not getting caught, than we do by continuing, at any length, to protect Oknair. When did you become his best friend anyway?”

“Hikaru, Akaba's right. If we let the D.I.S. Have there investigator splatted they may just skip to the part where they send in the Digital Incident Response Team. We barely know anything about Digimon, and the J.A.U. has an entire devision of their government for dealing with them. It would just be stupid to give them a reason to send a more proactive force.”

“Stay out of this Calek. Akaba think about it, if we let Oknair go, and find out who Psi is we can get him busted by the D.I.S.”

“What about us? If we get Psi, he'll get us. We can't let that happen, we're better off not dealing with him that. Besides Oknair knows more than all of us, and is smart enough not to get killed by Psi.”

“Just because he's smarter than you doesn't mean that he's smarter than any other one of us.”

At this Akaba left, saying only ”Oknair's not the enemy, just the victim.”

Megumi slugged Hikaru's shoulder “Ow! What was that for?”

“Way to go Hikaru, Akaba's the only one who's talked to Oknair, so I stand by him.”

“I've already made my opinion clear, I stand with Megumi and Akaba.” Calek said.

“So we just protect Oknair! Is that what we'll do for the rest of our schooling?”

“I firmly believe in what I said before Hikaru.”

“My mind is also made up Hikaru, now if you will excuse me I'm going to find Akaba.” Megumi left the room.

She searched the entire island, finally finding Akaba with Monodramon on the west coast, furthest away from the all of the buildings. “Earlier, you said
that he knew things about you that you didn't know, what were you talking about?”

“I don't want to talk about it!”

“Was it about Digimon?”

“No.”

“What then?”

“I told that I don't want to talk about it, isn't that enough for you!”

“Akaba, I just want to help you.”

“Sorry.”

“It's okay, what did he know?”

“He knew, things about my parents.”

“Did you not know your parents?”

“No, I knew my parents!”

“Oh, Sorry.”

“No, it's not your fault. I knew my parents. I grew up with all of us living together, it was the best time of my life. Every day I would wake up, and go downstairs. Both of my parents would already both be cooking breakfast together for me. Then we would all eat, and head out to the train station. Each time one of us would pick where we would all go. We would spend the day exploring the area as a family, and then head home to make dinner together. That wasn't just how it was like when I was 6 either, that was how every day was like until my parents enrolled me here. I always tried to get away because I thought, 'if I could just make it back, and convince them that this was how it was meant to be, then things would go back to how they were', but now.” Akaba trailed off.

“Akaba, what did he say?”

“He told me the truth, that my parents divorced right after they enrolled me here! There isn't a point of trying to escape anymore! There was never a point of trying to escape ever! Every year, every month, every day, and every second of the past two years of my life have been meaningless! It didn't even hit me until I left you, and the others standing in room 009 either! It took me that long for me to realize that everything I've been doing was meaningless!”

“Akaba these two years haven't been pointless.” Akaba and Megumi had been walking back to the courtyard without his noticing.

“What could possibly make the time I've wasted worthwhile?”

Akaba maintained a pathetic air, lacking perceptiveness even through hearing “Excellent viewpoint Kaichiban! Ha ha ha ha ha!”

of course seeing as he was still sitting, and sulking, Megumi felt it was necessary to say“Akaba, It's Psi!”

“You're life for the past two years have been built upon the ruins of empty lies Akaba. What will you do now that you know the truth?”

“I won't stop you.”

“What? Akaba, Why? You're the one who convinced us all to work together in the first place.”

“I don't care anymore! Go ahead Psi! You want to destroy this School? Be my guest!”

“Ha ha ha! Gladly Akaba! Veedramon, Destroy this school! Burn it down, false promises, and the rest of it too!”

“Akaba, aren't you going to help?”

“Why? He was right all along, this place only represents to me the dishonesty, and misdeeds of my parents. If he destroys it, he'll only be doing me a favor.” Akaba just continued sitting, and let Psi wreak havoc.

“Monodramon, aren't you going to do something about Psi?”

“I...want to, but I won't fight while Akaba's like this.”

“It's okay Megumi we'll still fight!” Calek, Ryudamon, Hikaru, and Dorumon had shown up to help fight Psi.

Psi put his left hand to his right shoulder, and swung his arm quickly from the shoulder to his far left, releasing Redveedramon, and Goldveedramon to fight the tamers. “This should be hard without your fourth. We are strong, a legion united. V-Breath Arrow MAX!”

“Ryudamon, and I will fight the red one, you take out the gold one.”

“Helmet Reversal!” Ryudamon reflected a V-Breath arrow into Redveedramon, while the other tamers, evaded the other.

“Uneven division of units, not smart.”

“Incorrect assumption, Katana Attack!” The metal sword hit Redveedramon, but merely scratched him.

“This is how you do damage small fry!” Redveedramon punched Ryudamon, and knocked him into a wall.

The fight between Goldveedramon, and the tamers was going just as well, though they hadn't been hit by a V-breath arrow, they hadn't done any damage. ”Cutter Shoot!” Goldveedramon loosed many blades of wind knocking back the other two digimon. “We're not even using our full power. Jogress!” Goldveedramon, and Redveedramon shimmered for a moment, and then appeared as one darker blue Veedramon with gold tints on his white scales “We are Masterveedramon! You cannot win!”

Calek took charge again “Megumi go get him, Hikaru, and I will give you cover”

Instead of doing as he was told Hikaru walked over to Akaba, and clocked him in the face while he was still wallowing in self-pity. “Get over yourself Bakaichiban.”

“Huh?”

“You said yourself that you thought it was better for us to fight Psi rather than let him win. What now, what's so different now that you're letting your friends take the beating? Don't answer, I'm going to help the others now, you do what you want.”

Akaba looked up as he heard a shriek come from Megumi who had been lifted into the air by the phantom dragon digimon. “Try anything Tamers, and she won't come out alive.”

“Yeah I bet now you expect me to wear a long elegant dress, so I can fit into the role of a damsel? Not gonna happen!”

Akaba's eyes grew wide, and his pulse raced as Megumi's life was threatened “I have to do something, but what can I do? Monodramon's not strong enough, I'm not strong enough!”

“Akaba” Akaba looked up to Monodramon's voice “I can't sit by anymore. I have to fight!”

“You- we can do it Monodramon.” Monodramon nodded, and rushed forward. Akaba closed his eyes feeling the strength of Monodramon flowing through him, took a deep breath, opened his eyes, and started catching up to Monodramon..

“DIGIVOLUTION.”

“Monodramon Digivolve to... Reptiledramon!” as Monodramon digivolved Akaba jumped on his back, while Reptiledramon began charging the unsuspecting Masterveedramon at high speeds was a yellow lizard-like digimon wearing blue and black chrome digizoid armor. “Ambush Crunch!”

As Reptiledramon crunched down the momentum, and the force of the crunch itself caused Masterveedramon to flinch, and drop Megumi. “I've got her!” Akaba jumped off, and caught Megumi. After catching her he seemed to glide down slowly.

“You just had to catch me too, didn't you? I didn't need rescuing! I had just said that, and here you come, and rescue me!”

“I'm sorry?”

“Just let go, and get back to your fight.” Akaba climbed onto Reptiledramon's back. Psi jumped, and landed on Masterveedramon's back.

“Me and you Psi, Two equally strong digimon, and us, their partners, for one final fight.”

“Alright then, go ahead.”

“Crash Charge!” Psi did nothing as Reptiledramon charged forward at him, until the last minute.

“V-Breath Arrow!” Reptiledramon continued the charge through Masterveedramon's attack, and smashed into the unsuspecting digimon.

“Well, I didn't think that attack would make it through.” The damage Redveedramon had taken was starting to reflect in Masterveedramon, though mostly the damage he had taken from his own V-Breath Arrow. Reptiledramon sped off, and came around again.

“Crash Charge!”

“Wait.” Psi, and Masterveedramon stood still watching the incoming target.

“Hammer Punch!” using another one of his many attacks, Masterveedramon's fist filled with energy, until he punched Reptiledramon. Massive waves of energy erupted from the two digimon, and rippled throughout the school, causing severe damage to the buildings, and having the effect of an earthquake throughout the island. The waves continued until both Digimon's attacks were out of momentum, then Psi lunged his arms forward , as Masterveedramon grabbed Reptiledramon, rolled back, and kicked him into a now being evacuated boy's dormitory building. Both tamers got off of their digimon, as both digimon staggered to their feet. Psi, Akaba, and their digimon charged at each other.

They locked fists in combat as energy resumed pulsing from them. “Akaba, you and I are so much alike, we both have digimon, we both hate this place, and we both want it out of our lives. You can't deny what you've done to escape.”

“There's a simple difference between us Psi, you hide behind a mask, protecting yourself with it, so you can feel free to go ahead, and freely do wrong.”

“We all have masks Akaba. The real trick is figuring out how long we can wear them before asking which is mine, the mask that I wear, or the face below it?”

“What are you talking about? I didn't understand a word you just said, I mean do you see a piece of plastic covering my head?”

“You say that you don't understand a word that I say, but the truth is you do, you may not understand the words, but the meanings more than anything. Just minutes ago you revealed that you bear anger toward your parents, and at the fact that your escape attempts were all in vain. You masked that pain for days now, and seconds ago you put on the mask of anger behind your face. Are you the sum of your anger? Or are you the face that masks it?”

“Both! Er Neither? I don't know!”

“Exactly. You now ask yourself internally, 'Is the face I show externally to cover up my anger my mask, or is it the anger I just displayed to hide the rest of my emotions?' a mask doesn't have to be what one wears to shield their face. Sometimes it is their emotions. However for an example let's take a superhero who most would say uses a mask to shield his face. Which is really his mask, what he wears, so that no one who has seen him in public recognizes him when he fights crime, or is it what he wears, so that no one who has seen him when he fights crime recognizes him in public? Which is really his secret identity, his identity as a citizen, or his identity as a hero? Who does he see himself as, a hero who passes off as a citizen in public, or as a citizen who acts as a hero when the situation calls for it?”

“I think I've got it, who are you then?” Akaba leaped into the air, and Reptiledramon followed suit “Psi, the psychotic man who tries to destroy this school ,or” Akaba came down toward an unprepared Psi, while readying a punch. “The student who hides what he's done behind the mask?” As the punch connected from Akaba to Psi, and Psi was knocked back, the two students movements were reflected identically in their digimon, with a punch from Reptiledramon to Veedramon, who was knocked back. It was then that Psi's mask broke, the ceramic shards fell, and pierced through the suit beneath Psi's Cloak. Hissing from the suit revealed the suit to be inflated, but Akaba was already looking at the shock-filled face behind the mask. Standing in front of Akaba, Psi was shrinking from 5' 2” to 4' 2”, going from the infamous, emotionless, ceramic face to the not so familiar face of awe seen on the face of James Lauil.

Chapter 11
The door to room 009 shut with a bang, James Lauil was dropped by Calek into a seat furthest from the exit. Psi's suit had ceased deflating minutes ago, but the shock and awe on his face hadn't changed. Akaba entered the room, soon followed by Hikaru and Megumi. The latter two stood at the door, Hikaru's eyes closed in thought and Megumi shaking in rage while Akaba approached James to question him. “I probably should have realized it when you suggested the possibility of an active stealth mode, it would explain all too well why Psi always seemed to be an incredibly talented individual who couldn't be identified. Of course, the first question you have to answer, is simply: why did you do what you did.”

James finally came to, and began to speak in Psi's cold voice “Primarily two reasons: the first was simply to be rid of this place; Akaba isn't the only one who wants to leave this place, just the only one who plots ridiculous stunts to this end more than 200 days a year. When I saw Akaba take a bud, I took one, and activated it. I starting testing everything on the device: stealth mode, communication capabilities, Digimon storage, and even the digivolution function. When Veemon arrived, I figured out how to better use the digivolution function, how to reach champion. I then took up a ceramic mask, found a way to displace my height, and put on the black clothes and eventually the cloak. I thought if I could just destroy the school, then I could leave.”

“Why didn't I think of that?”

“Akaba!”

“Oh, right. Sorry Megumi. What about picking up that second trick?”

Hikaru opened his eyes “You also haven't explained your second reason”

“They are the same, through my communication experiments, I was contacted. The Digimon said that they would aid me in achieving my goal, they pushed me on, and gave me the ability to separate my digimon into two separate beings, by using my mind as a medium, and then uniting them into a much more powerful form.”

“Why have you been this cooperative with our questions?”

“Aside from the obvious physical limitations, I have lost. I no longer have anonymity, the upper hand, or an achievable goal. Moreover it has become clear to me more recently that my course of actions, was not road I should have taken.”

“How can we find, and take out the digimon who encouraged you?”

“Well it contacted me, never the other way around, from the digital world, so, for starters, a way to the digital world, but there's only one on this island and I could never find it.”

“How do you know that their's one on the island in the first place?”

“Because, after initial research, I continued looking into Oknair, the portal that took him to the digital world, took him while he worked here. Though there's not a chance we can get the information from him.”

“Did you search near the courtyard?”

“A suppose a 'no' with a sarcastic facial expression will be a sufficient answer. It has to be in some odd corner outside of the school, near the edges of the island.”

“Last, but Absolutely not least, why did you always appear on top of the clock tower?” At this Megumi managed to let go of her rage, by running up, and throwing a punch into the back of Akaba's head.

“The answer, for the most part, is as inappropriate as the question; I thought it made me look cool and mysterious, so after a while I even left my stuff up there.”

Calek spoke up “I guess the next step is to search obscure parts of the island for a way into the digital world.”

“Not quite yet.” Hikaru added “How do we know you won't betray us James?”

“I expected this question, and honestly” As James is speaking his voice begins to revert to his usual tone, with more remorse than the others have heard. “I don't think I have a reason for you to trust me other than a few facts. First of which is that we're all in this alone, but united, no one else has been through this, and we're the only ones we have to lean on. Second, I was manipulated, I see my mistakes, we now have a common enemy, and all of that inclines me to assist the rest of you, if you'll have me.”
