Title: What to get..
Magus Shadow - January 29, 2011 07:16 PM (GMT)
Money is always limited for me these days but I want to jump on the pump and pistol bandwagon, so I am allowing myself enough of a budget to get a single new toy this year so I can save money in the long run. I would like some opinions if anyone is willing to give them, and here is my current criteria for what I am looking for.
$200 or under, $250 if it is a good package deal (extra mags, holster, feedneck, air)
New, not used to ensure latest generation of parts (unless sold by a delta member or delta friend like the rangers or alpha dogs)
Proven to work with said latest generation of parts (no buying a gun then immediately buying spring kits, shaving off trigger sears, etc)
Some versatility in operation desired (can attach hopper, can have co2 cartridges or constant air, stuff like that)
With that criteria in place, I have two main things in mind. The Empire Trracer or a Tiberus marker. One obviously being a pistol, the other a pump built on a very solid platform, these things call out to me the most though I am open to suggestions. Pro of the Trracer is that it has a stock class feedneck adapter, can hold a hopper and is ready for constant air. Cons being that I need to get a 12 gram adapter for true stock play and there is no way I can carry it in a holster if I ever wanted to go that rout. The Tiberus from what I understand has benefited well from recent revisions in the design and does not require me to change 12 grams on the field which to me is a huge plus as I never have liked doing it. Cons are obviously cost of mags, and as far as I know you cannot buy the Tac 9.1 standalone which would have been great as I could have converted it to a hopper feed and had a solid backup mechanical (Anyone know if you can buy the 9.1 anywhere?. A pro for both is that they accept first strike rounds should Dave ever carry them.
Input is appreciated!

BT's pistol can be turned into a fullsize marker if you desire it, but to my understanding there is no regulator in the thing stock, and it looks a bit wonky

I'd say try every pump and pistol you can before you buy. I have 3 types of pistols and 3 pumps.

Yeah the BT has just as many things going for it as it has going against it unfortunately. Cheaper price but no reg, no magazines to buy but the stick feed makes finding a good holster problematic, it can take any cocker threaded barrel but it's at the tip which makes any presently owned barrel of mine more than double the length of the pistol, etc.

I can get my TAC8 tuned up for you to use to see if you like it - as well as any other marker I own for that matter.
I never really got into the pistol thing too much myself. I could adjust to the lack of accuracy (or maybe I just never learned to shoot pistols that well). I know it can be done - hell, look at Rob Smith.
I usually recommend a nice 'cocker for a pump. Easy to set up how ever you want and such a nice feel - but I'm not sure what you can do within your budget.
Also, you should have seen this post before I ran spell-check on it; it looked like something Tinman typed . . .

You should take Deacon up on his offer. I'd look for a PGP myself, but like Deacon I'm not much of a pistol guy (at least as far as paintball is concerned).
As far as pump's are concerned (and taking into account your propensity for dropping small parts) your best bet would be a SL. They can be had for cheap, here's
one right now...

I love my SL. They are surprisingly good markers for 50 bucks.
In other news I've got a PGP coming my way some time this week!

Plenty of pumps out there cheap! I found a Psychoballistics Pump for $80.00. Triliogys out there too for about $100.00. Just need the Trilogy pump kit.

The trilogy pump kits are still only 30 bucks brand new

Ran into a deal too good to pass up. Got a 8.1 tac with 50 rounds put through it with an extra mag and a trilogy pump that just needs a cocking arm for an awesome price, best of both worlds!

I'd go sl-68 over a new trracer, there have been some negative reviews on mcb regarding lack of features.
Look for a used phantom. I can check local pawn shops for ya. I just traded my at for another phantom. Both sides of the transaction made out like bandits.
