Weld beads aren't especially beautiful, but hey, it's all stick welded (it's not like I have a welding shop)!
I'll add more tomorrow.

Delta ops has been given full creative control for the coot and my personal Turret design.
Also in the event of Disappearance Death or anything of that nature the coot Is to be given to Delta ops.. If the coot is sold all who put time/money into the vehicle are to be reinbursed based on there % of commitment or monetary investment.
This is my will and testament for the 1970 coot that was purchased in october of 2009

Wow! Nice work! That's the way to install a hinge...screw the holes.

Nice garage too!

Bluefish - April 11, 2010 12:32 PM (GMT)
One of my paintball buddies works for timkin, I'll check to see if we can get a little better deal going through him.

Redwing - April 11, 2010 02:01 PM (GMT)
My work has an account w/ motion, I'll check on the gear.
I'll need to repair some of the parts for the "torque transmitters" before we can put the 4WD back in action...

Thanks Guys! I got the doors finished last night (I'll add a couple more pics later), so I have only one more piece to weld in before I start painting...

So, here's the promised update. Fab work is done, now just need to paint and mount it.

I got the tank over to my house last night, and have repaired (so far):

1) Brakes
2) Throttle Linkage (I'll add an adjustable stop if time permits)

I will fix the steering issue (runs off the end of the rack when turning right) and re-locate the air cleaner and fuel tank.
Are there any other issues that I need to address that I may not know about?

awilli234life - April 23, 2010 06:48 PM (GMT)
Yay Brakes ,, I still need the measurements fir the pucks and the actual disc size

The most important part of that linkage is the return spring it needed a stronger one
If the engine dosen't idle down then the clutch dosen't disengage
a cable wouldn't be a bad idea like a lawnmower idle.

p.s when welding on the coot ground to the tub your welding on or the bearings in the middle will get welded.

Redwing - April 24, 2010 03:13 AM (GMT)
Not to worry, I haven't done any welding on it yet. I'll be sure to ground it properly if I do.
Also, the brake is in good shape. I wouldn't worry about replacement parts for now.
Made quite a bit of progress this week. Grunt helped me out tonight (he also made two new sets of helicopter backpack parts), and now the cab is mounted.
Now for the pics I promised...

Still on the list to do:
1) Mount and plumb a fuel tank
2) Mount re-located air cleaner
3) Build and mount the trailer hitch
4) Make sure the alternator works
5) Mount and wire headlights

awilli234life - April 24, 2010 04:13 AM (GMT)
lol goober in a cage

it looks great p.s the deck in the back just lifts out. great work so far

I Remembered somthing we critically need a new shifter stick i think the last one was a poor desighn a straight stick would work just fine

Pappy - April 24, 2010 08:17 AM (GMT)
Looks great, what a job!

Looks like you've picked up a test driver too.

Redwing - April 24, 2010 12:14 PM (GMT)
Forgot about the shifter... That's fixed too!

Redwing - April 24, 2010 06:16 PM (GMT)
Well, I ran into a BIG problem. The electric starter is broken.

user posted image

I'll look into a replacement, but I don't know what it's gonna cost... :(

On the upside, I have the fuel tank re-mounted and plumbed, and I had it running for long enough to fix the throttle return and adjust the idle and idle mix.
I also took it for a spin around the yard, and was surprised how difficult it is to drive (especially on pavement!).

I think I'll go start on the hitch. I also have to replace the lights on the trailer with Deacon-proof units before we take it to Sherwood...

Found a Starter, this is the best price I found. We need one for a Tecumseh HH120 if anyone else wants to look.
Also found the f$@#*n gas tank leaks, so that has to be replaced as well. I'm looking for one now...

Redwing - April 25, 2010 02:17 AM (GMT)
Found one, looks like that and the starer is another $120... :(
On the upside, it looks like the new starters have a much sturdier design (although the old one is probably 40 yrs. old).

awilli234life - April 25, 2010 02:23 AM (GMT)
I donate $10 for fixage Maby i can lead by example?
and the certificate of inshurance should be in monday or tues
that had to be done but was less for a year than it is to buy at hells for a day $100

yes it is very tough to drive especially if your at low speed it turns slow and binds
it's better to make gradual turns. Sharp turns are tough

what about the aftermarket one i saw for 80?

maby they use less power :)

awilli234life - April 25, 2010 02:31 AM (GMT)
we could allways have grunt just hold the starter to the flywheel while we start it !
then it's fun for us and functional.. my buddy used to have a escort like that

and if deacon can remember i fixed my van at his house with a c-clamp on my starter
it ran like that for the next year and a half till the rear bearing were going the springs shot through the floors and the reverse went out

lol i miss it

Redwing - April 25, 2010 02:38 AM (GMT)
We could just have Grunt pull start it for us... :P

I am going to buy the $75 starter and a $35 fuel tank. The local shop wanted $92 for a Chinese B&S one...

Redwing - April 25, 2010 03:11 AM (GMT)
Starter and fuel tank are on the way, but I'm not sure I can have it ready for Sherwood next weekend.

As for today, I got the hitch made and bolted on:

Also got the fuel tank and air cleaner mounted and plumbed (although I will have to re-do the fuel tank, since the new one is not an exact match).

Put Tipp & I down for $20 each. Redwing's doing all the work, he damn sure shouldn't have to pay for the parts too.

Man Redwing, where are you finding time for your day job?

deacon - April 25, 2010 12:52 PM (GMT)
I throw in $50 for me and my clan . . .

When there's a lot to do in a limited time, I go after it pretty hard. Bummer is I'm not certain I can still have it ready for Sherwood. :(

I will also be taking a break this afternoon to watch the Redwings... B)

Redwing - April 25, 2010 06:08 PM (GMT)
Made good progress today, got the hitch painted and the Deacon-proof lights mounted on the trailer.

Be sure to put some expanded steel mesh over those taillight lenses, too! Should be able tack a couple pieces of all-thread to stick through the mesh and thread on a washer and nut. Or drill and tap the square tubing for a bolt...

Redwing - April 26, 2010 12:31 AM (GMT)
I considered doing that, but did not.
Expanded sheet wouldn't add enough strength to be worth the extra work (and it's a huge snag hazard unless the edges are folded in), plus without it bulb changes will be much easier.
Mostly, I just needed to get the lights off the tops of the fenders (which in hindsight was a stupid place to put 'em) and protect them on three sides. They are recessed in the tubes almost an inch, which should protect them from most hazards...

Bluefish - April 26, 2010 06:28 AM (GMT)
Ah, I couldn't tell they're recessed that far. Good times chap!

Redwing - April 27, 2010 01:04 AM (GMT)
Trailer is all ready to go, and I changed the oil in the tank motor.
I haven't gotten a shipping confirmation on the starter and fuel tank yet, so I still don't know if I'll have it ready for this weekend.
And, I found some 100w KC daylighters (the big six-inchers) I forgot I had. B)
Anyone think two of those will do for headlights? :D
