Title: New style goggle fan

monkey - November 13, 2009 12:01 AM (GMT)
So I seen on the Cleveland forum I guy name Beezer had used a smaller fan than a cpu fan for a goggle fan. They are 25mm X 25mm(@ an inch sq.) he had it mounted on the ouside like I have my fan, and others have. So since they are small I mounted them on the inside of mine, also to give them more protection from that one ball that sometimes get through. Notice I said them, Beezer had one and I tried with one but seem to get the same amount of air flow as one of the larger ones. So I added another one but pointed that one so the fan would blow out, creating force circulation inside the mask. I had my glasses on put the mask on and tried to fog the lense up it would for a second but was gone just as fast. Without glasses no fog at all. These fans can be found on E-bay or at your local rc hobby store, they are cooling fans for rc cars.

Very cool. How much to do mine?

Dutch - November 13, 2009 12:35 AM (GMT)
Same here. Remember if it has more moving parts than a fork, I cannot figure it out.

monkey - November 13, 2009 12:40 AM (GMT)
I need to get a 9 volt case with the leads and the on/off switch and I will let you know the cost to do your masks. :D

If you want me to do them let me know for sure so I can order the parts I need from e-bay

Redwing - November 13, 2009 01:36 AM (GMT)
let me know how much you want.

Dutch - November 13, 2009 01:42 AM (GMT)
Oh, cool! Nifty little do-hicky.

monkey - November 13, 2009 04:00 AM (GMT)
it will be $15 a set which is 2 fans, 1 battery pack, 4 screws, 4 washers, and 4 nuts.

I can install them if need be or you can depends on the persons mechanical aptitude.

Dutch if you want when I get the materials you can send your mask usps(@ 3 to 5 dollars) ship priority mail and I'll pay the ship back to you. Just let ma know.

It makes about as much noise as a JT X-wind fan but 100 times more effective.

Very nice!

I will take two sets of parts. One for myself and one for Tipp.

Thanks Monkey. Shall I mail you a check or just send the money along with Tipp when he goes to the Kaylee Benifit?

Redwing - November 14, 2009 02:45 AM (GMT)
Sign me up for a set, too.
You should consider peddling this as a kit, and/or a kit w/ installation.

monkey - November 14, 2009 03:43 AM (GMT)
I will put an order in for a total of 5 sets. 4 are spoken for which leaves 1 set left first one that posts up gets it.

deacon - November 14, 2009 03:46 AM (GMT)
me

monkey - November 14, 2009 03:53 AM (GMT)
Ok all the sets have been spoken for. I will get an order for next month if there are more of you that want one.

monkey - November 17, 2009 08:06 PM (GMT)
The fans are coming from Hong Kong and the batt. packs are coming from cali. I hope to have stuff here by fri to make up the kits. If I do I will pm everyone and will make arrangments

Bluefish - November 19, 2009 01:17 PM (GMT)
i'm always a day late for this stuff. I'd have been interested in three sets... maybe you could just email or pm me links to all the parts. i'm a big boy and can handle assembly myself...

monkey - December 15, 2009 09:34 PM (GMT)
Finally got all the stuff(Hong Kong post takes a little while to get here). I have finished adding the batt. pack and here is how it looks.

I added velcro to help keep it in place under the strap.

For the V-force I was able to keep all the wires stream lined and away from the head. The battery will last a few hours straight. I imagine if there was a battery for each fan you would get more time out of it, go figure  .

Pappy and Tipp Dog yours are in the mail, and the rest I will have at practice for you.

Pappy - December 16, 2009 10:34 AM (GMT)
Nice. I wouldn't have thought of the velcro.

You found that the best air flow was to have one fan blowing in and one fan blowing out?

monkey - December 16, 2009 02:11 PM (GMT)
yes pappy, it rotates the air in the mask, keeping the face cool.

Dutch - December 16, 2009 10:00 PM (GMT)
I can vouch for how well it works. Ingenious idea!

Can we get a smaller battery pack?

Bluefish - December 17, 2009 01:33 AM (GMT)
I too think smaller battery packs are in order. Perhaps 12volt security batteries in a custom enclosure...

Redwing - December 17, 2009 01:55 AM (GMT)
I was thinking "deep cycle marine battery". Should last a whole season, and is rechargeable! :P

Bluefish - December 17, 2009 02:01 AM (GMT)
But how big are they? I don't want to have to literally cart around a battery for my goggles when I refuse to do so for my gun or hopper.

Redwing - December 17, 2009 02:56 AM (GMT)
Same size as a car battery. Maybe a little bigger.

monkey - December 17, 2009 03:37 AM (GMT)
Here are a couple of pics with it on my melon. I know that it looks huge on the previous pics, but it really doesn't stick out far on the side and the case is about a half inch longer than a 9v batt. I felt it easier to turn on and off on the side.

Well, the fans don't fit in my Profiler. :(
Anybody want my kit?

If Monkey does not have 1 set aside for me, bring it to the meeting. We can try to install it on 1 of my masks.

Pappy - February 14, 2010 03:30 PM (GMT)
Got the fan's installed in my and Tipp's Grill's. There's lots of air flow. Can't wait to try them indoors at Warzone to see if the fogging is totally eliminated. It will also be interesting to see if just the velcro will keep the battery box attached. The box is really stuck to the mask with the velcro, but we'll see. I may have to put a small strap around box's too.

I also picked up some spare foam inserts so we can pop the fans in and out as required.

Do you have part numbers or where to get them from? I am interested in the grill conversion.

Got the industrial strength velcro & super glue for the battery box at Lowe's. The fan kit itself is a Monkey design.

Bluefish - February 15, 2010 07:14 AM (GMT)
Redwing, I'll take your set.

Monkey,

Will you be ordering new fans(kits) any time soon, if not, did you get them from ebay?

Monkey,

I am just going to get some rc fans locally, but not sure about battery choices. What have you tried and how long do they last if you keep it on constantly.

I am gonna order in a week or so AA 4 pack case and try that out. the 9v works great but I think it might be just a little to much power for the fans.

ET3 - February 28, 2010 09:00 PM (GMT)
Would you say that a high speed fan or a lower speed fan would be best.

More speed = more air flow & noise
Less speed = less air flow & noise
I personally need as much flow as I can get and the noise doesn't bother me.

I googled the fan part # (3RAC-FAN02) and found that they are 5v fans, so we are definitely overspeeding them but they do work great. So if anything, the overvoltage will just decrease their service life and at ~ $3/fan no big deal.
6v from 4 AA's will make them operate closer to their designed speed though.

Redwing - March 2, 2010 02:19 AM (GMT)
I found these. They move quite a lot of air, but are little large.
