Magus

I have just finished the character info for Magus, who is perhaps my all time favorite character. I did do some minor changes here and there, as I wanted to add in a new scene concerning a certain Lavos idea I came up with some time back, as well as adding him into the story of Chrono Cross for future reasons. Magus AKA Janus

In the year 600 AD, is a man who calls himself Magus. He is feared among many as the King of Mystics and the most powerful surviving Magician still alive today. It is unknown by the people of Guardia as to where he came from, but that he simply showed up out of nowhere one day. Only Magus knows the true reason as to why he is here, though he is not saying anything…

Description

Magus is 6’2” and 154 lbs. His hair is long enough to go to the center of his spine, with it also being a beautiful bluish color. His eyes are deep blood red, with his face being a pale white color, with ears as pointy as an elf’s.

His shirt is a blue color, while his pants are of a royal purple. Over his blue shirt is a light brown chest armor plate, with what appears to be light brown briefs obviously being worn over his pants. (Sorry, but it does look like briefs) He also has light brown boots, with a little bit of silver around the ankle.

And finally is his cape, which is a blood red color, clearly, matching his evil looking eyes. His choice of weapon is the scythe, which is always associated with the Grim Reaper: Angel of Death.

History

Magus was once a young boy named Janus, son of Queen Zeal, and brother of his older sister Schala. Despite his being the Prince of the Kingdom of Zeal, he was far from respected by the people of Zeal. The reason though is one he does not like to share, though years of research have told us this much…

Janus along time ago was your normal happy child, with both a caring and loving family. Even after Queen Zeal found an object called the Frozen Flame, which allowed her to create the Mammon Machine, things were fine as it only meant the Kingdom would last forever, with the Magic granted to them thanks to the power of the Frozen Flame. But sadly things would change forever on the day Janus discovered his own Magical talents, proving himself as having even more potential then his own sister…

Because one day when he was trying to improve his magical powers, he lost control of them in a sign of weakness. The result was more then disastrous as it led to the death of his own father, thus leading to both the insanity of his mother and the tormenting of his beloved sister. And to mark things off, everyone begun to think of him as some sort of devil child thinking he killed his father in an attempt to gain control of the Kingdom, saying his mother was most likely next. So from that day forward, he vowed never to use his powers again…

But little did he know, his whole life was about to get even worse. And it would all lie in the form of a great god like being from space named Lavos. As it turned out, the death of the King led to his mom desiring the ability to become immortal, hoping such a weakness death would never haunt her again. And to make it worse, she would banish those whom had no powers, as they would be unable to help with her dream of immortality, thus were a disgrace to the Kingdom of Zeal in her own eyes. Just because of one event, the mother he once knew was gone forever…

Eventually though, some people started to disagree with banishing of the others, saying that it was unfair to banish them from the Kingdom because of their weakness. But Queen Zeal refused to listen, thus she threw then into the Mammon Machine as a sacrifice to the Great Lavos. No one else knew about this of course, as the Queen Insisted that they simply left for the Village of the Banished people of Zeal, as they wanted nothing to do with her anymore. But both Janus and Schala were not fooled, as they were smart enough to figure it out on their own, having seen them enter the throne room and never come out…

But perhaps the worst part of his life was when his sister was called forth to the Undersea Palace, where she was to use her powers to activate the Mammon Machine, which was now inside of the Undersea Palace. It seems that by moving the Machine closer to Lavos, they will be able to take even more power from Lavos, thus becoming Immortal beings, just as his mother had hoped. Being the reason his father died in the first place, he was told to stay behind by his mother who has refused to let go of the past. Janus being lost and confused wandered around the castle, with no destination to speak of… That is until he found a certain room…

Inside of the room was a Flame, which appeared to be frozen in time and space. Realizing that this must be the Frozen Flame, which his mom had talked about, decided to make a wish having heard that it grants your deepest desires. But as soon as he touched it, he could hear a faint voice inside of his head. The voice asked him what it is that he desired, which Janus responded to by saying he wanted his mother to come to her senses, and stop using his sister as if she were just some sort of tool.

The voice then tells him that is not just his mother that is too blame, but everyone inside of the kingdom as well. The voice tells him that everyone inside of the kingdom has become far too greedy, as they are now using a part of him that only appeared by chance, in order to take his powers away for themselves. Janus realizes right then and there that the voice belongs to Lavos, and that he is very angry with the people of the Kingdom of Zeal. Lavos explains that the reason is because that instead of being satisfied with the power that the Frozen Flame has given them, they had decided that they deserved more. And now because of their greed, he is slowly starting to die because of their stealing his power with the Mammon Machine. Lavos having dreams to become the perfect being of DNA evolution is not about to let this come too past. Because of his anger, Lavos was going to destroy the Kingdom of Zeal…

Janus realizing what was going to happen decided to go to the Undersea Palace despite his mother’s orders. He was going to warn her about what was going to happen, hoping that maybe she could cancel the project, thus calming Lavos down. But despite his attempts, he was unable to stop her. In the end he was forced to watch as his sister suffered from her connecting with Lavos through the use of the Mammon Machine, as well as watch the whole Kingdom fall from the Wrath of Lavos. Lavos then used his powers to send Janus and the Three Prophets into different time periods, thus leaving him being unable to save his sister, who was the only person to ever treat him kindly after his failure with Magic.

Janus was then discovered by a Mystic named Ozzie, who then taught Janus how to perfect his magical abilities, thus allowing Janus to become the King of the Mystics under the new name of Magus. With his new found power and authority, he promised to the black wind that he would one day find Lavos, and kill him for what he has done to his sister, who he loved dearly with all his heart…

Thus beginning his rule as the most feared King of all Mystics…

20 years later, he starts wearing a cloak, disguises himself with a mask, and changes his name to Magil. He then becomes the personal body guard of Kid who he feels has a connection with his sister Schala.

I have just updated it, and I think it is a little bit better now. In my updated version, the scene where Janus speaks with Lavos now makes a bit more sense. So I personally think it is way better now.
