By that line of logic, no new sport is in fact a sport since it takes time for an international governing body to be formed. And since a quick google search for paintball league gives 400,000+ results, they are well on their way to establishing that level of standardization. And from that list you put up earlier javelen and shot put sure meet the definition especially being sanctioned Olympic events. I used to run track in high school and, trust me, the shot put guys compete in a sport. I'd put darts and shooting in a grey area even if shooting is in the Olympics. And, if I wanted to (I don't), nascar (no I will not capitalize it) could be argued into at least the grey area. By the way, putting I believe before your criteria immediately flags your arguement as weak and objective. It is now time to drop this since I don't think anyone is going to be changing their mind here. I am leaving this discussion, back to the ouchies. By the way, just about any sport has the potential to hurt like hell if not played right. This is coming from the guy who lost a tooth playing baseball. Now that hurts (after you slip back out of the shock of finding a tooth in your hand. I've been told the look on my face was priceless.). -------------------- When I come up with a decent signature, it will be here.

so panintball belongs in this grey area. ok ill live with that but if theres something wrong with criteria do tell - i thought they were pretty obvious ones. heres another one THERE MUST BE AN INCREASED CHANCE OF INJURING YOURSELF DURING THE ACTIVITY -------------------- |

Friend of mine broke his leg jumping over a trench while playing a year ago. Did about 12 feet before he landed. Yeah, it wasn't pretty, and ambulance stretchers really weren't made to be all-terrain...

bpult the biggest problem with your argument is that you are the one setting the standards for a sport instead of some official body. and i don't like the way you have it set. I would consider paintball a sport, by your definition if you excluded the thing about the western world (I'm sorry I find it a little racist sports are held in eastern countries too). and your argument about not being a part of a major league I have heard that they are trying to get it into the Xgames as a team sport.

yes you did say how many 2nd and third world countries play paintball but i was asking you how many second or 3rd world countries play any sort of organized sport on a national level and the answer is not many they can't afford it. I t is usually limited to just soccer or some other basic sport like that maybe baseball but that can get expensive too. The issue isn't whether coutries in poverty play the very expensive sport that we call paintball it was whether or not paintball was a sport. Last time i checked you didn't have to have a second or third world country to back you up on whether something was a sport.

ok the reason we're talking about 2nd and third world countries is because they simply don't play paintball, so the only countries that do are first world countries. Point settled No first world country has declared paintball a sport third world countries still play sport, particlaly runing, sometimes swimming, and rugby and socer also -------------------- |

I didn't know that a country was the governing body over whether a sport was a sport last time i checked the president never declared football, basketball, or baseball a sport, they just are. Of course baseball is the american pastime but that doesn't make it a sport just an activity. like it was said earlier for something to be considered a sport I believe there must be three requisite factors (and I want to know who agrees with this osr thinks it's incomplete).
1)The competing parties must train to prepare for competition. 2)There must be some level of physical danger involved. 3)Some organization must recognize it as a sport (whether it be a whole country or just a local league). my answer to 1 I have friends who train for competitions. 2. they know it hurts sometimes to be shot and there is the occasional injury by accident. three) paintball is recognized by many organizations and if the Xgames ever decides to pick it up it will also be recognized internationally. I argue this point and i wonder did sports like football, basketball, and baseball have this much trouble getting recognition when they were first started. -------------------- "Why don't you speak Chinese?"
