  Beautiful story! love.gif
Although it was sad that Luke died before Mara, I am happy that they defeated the Vong so soon!
I think it's so cute that they named their children Owen, Ben and Padme. biggrin.gif

Great ending to a great story! happy.gif clapping.gif

Cool wrap up to that story. I like your interpretation of what death/afterlife is like.

Oh, I forgot to mention- I loved the parallels between ch10 and ch20, with the sunset and sunrise. Nice touch.

*is still grinning like an id* Wow, that was spectacular! I was having a totally crappy afternoon and this made it not so bad. biggrin.gif I'd be bawling at the ending right now if I weren't in a computer lab. It was just... so... *sniffs* I dunno. It was wonderful.

Chapter 19/20....She's ALIVE!!! Yay! Wonderful Chapters, JayCee. Really loved the interaction with the med droids. And she still said 'yes'.

Epilogue....Okay...I'm still trying to form the words. This whole ending blew me away. A very touching and fitting way to finish off your fabulous series. I loved how you named her other children Owen...and Padme...*sighs* I cried when Luke died and when Mara finally met her Mom and Dad.

*applauds* Beautifully done. Now it's finished!

*uncorks champagne and pours it into glasses*

Epilogue

Seven Years After Death

“This is all your fault!” Mara screamed at Luke and he winced at the following creative Huttese words.

“How is it all my fault?” Luke shot back. “You were the one that said let’s have another!”

“But did you have to listen?” she screamed as another contraction hit her.

“Knight Jade,” Cilghal said from the end of the bed, “you really should calm down some unless you want this birth to be complicated.”

“I just want it over with!” Mara clinched Luke’s hand and screamed again in pain.

“She’s coming, Mara,” Cilghal called, “I can see her head. I need you to push again.”

Mara bellowed again and her body scrunched as she pushed. He could feel the pain his wife was going through and he winced again in sympathy. “You’re doing good Mara.”

“Shut up!” she glared at him. “I hate you!”

He had almost believed her when Ben was born, was sceptical when Owen came into the universe, and so he just grinned at her and said, “I know, honey.”

One Year Later

“Mara,” Leia found the woman sitting in the Academy garden watching her two boys, Ben, 5, Owen, 3, running around while she fed little Padme who was just about to turn one.

“Leia,” Mara greeted her with a smile, “I hear congratulations are in order.”

“Well, the engagement isn’t official yet,” Leia sat down next to her. “Han is still debating if eighteen is too young for Jacen to get married, and to the next Queen Mother of all people.”

“I thought you liked Tenel Ka?”

“Oh I do,” Leia smiled, “I guess I’m not ready to be a grandmother yet.”

Mara laughed gently, motherhood had done a number on her, though she had been slowly calming, becoming more of the Jedi she was meant to be, since her death. “I dread the day Owen is that age, he’s going to be a heart breaker, just look at him.”

Indeed, Owen was blessed with everything about Luke that made him boyish and handsome, with vibrancy outmatched only by her son Anakin. Ben was a handsome boy too, but more thoughtful, he would make a great Jedi Master some day. As for Padme, she was a spitting image of her mother, fiery hair and gem’d eyes.

“Mara,” Leia said, getting back on track, “do you still not know why you picked out the name Padme?”

Mara shrugged, “It just came to me, after she was born.”

“You remember Padme Nabberrie Amidala from your Imperial History classes?”

“Yes, I believe so.” She chewed her lip in thought for a moment. “She died about the time Palpatine took power. Later it was suspected she was pro-Rebel and that’s why she died, the first in many unexplained deaths that occurred over the following years.”

“I remember her too, when you told me you had named your girl Padme,” Leia nodded. “Mon Mothma had told me about her long ago when I joined the Imperial Senate.”

“She was also young when she got into politics, skilled beyond her age.”

“Exactly,” Leia pulled out a datapad and started to click open a few files. “I found some images here of her.”

Mara scanned through them, “She’s beautiful.”

“Look closer at this one,” Leia clicked back a few files.

“It can’t be,” Mara lost her breath, “I know I’ve seen this man before, somewhere.”

Leia nodded, she thought the same thing when she examined the photo of Senator Amidala being escorted to a Republic Senate meeting during a time when her life was in danger.

“Anakin Skywalker,” Mara whispered. “It’s him, I’m sure of it. He looks so much like Luke.”

“I believe it is, now look at Padme again,” Leia hid her trepidation.

Padme squirmed in Mara’s arms and she handed her over to Leia, the girl quieting down quickly.

Mara looked back at the datapad. “You don’t suppose? She does look a lot like you.”

Good, Leia wasn’t loosing her mind. She shifted Padme to another arm and clicked at the datapad, opening up another photo. “Doesn’t it look like she’s pregnant in that picture?”

“This is her funeral!” Mara blurted.

“Her death coincides very closely to Luke and I’s birthday’s, though we can’t be sure if what was told to us by our guardians was correct,” Leia took a deep breath. “They could have lied to protect us, shifting it off a few days.”

“Wait, you think I named Padme after your mother unconsciously?” Mara shook her head. “I remember my time with Palpatine and Vader well, no mention was ever made of Padme outside of that part of my history class.”

“So? You still don’t know why you chose the name.”

“But wouldn’t it make more sense for you to have done it?” Mara furrowed her brow in concentration. “She was your mother, you remember her, a bit.”

“Just feelings,” Leia decided to bring up a subject she hadn’t spoken to the woman about in years. “You’re the one who died and came back.”

Mara’s eyes met Leia’s and suddenly the redhead’s eyes blanked out, “He broke her heart…”

Leia gasped and Mara blinked.

“Sorry, did you say something?” Mara asked.

Fifty Eight Years Later

Mara gasped and fell to the floor, her heart being ripped from her body.

“NO!” tears poured out of her eyes and she sobbed uncontrollably.

“Mom!” Ben burst into the room, his aged eyes also fresh with tears. He rushed to her side and pulled her into his lap, rocking her gently. “Please tell me this is a bad dream.”

Mara shook her head and allowed herself to be held by her son, both having felt the death of Luke Skywalker and it destroying a piece of them inside.

Four Years Later

Mara sat on a stone bench in the Academy Garden. When she had been at odds with training or having mood swings during pregnancy she would sit there and draw comfort from the beauty around her. Often Luke would find her there.

It’s a strange sensation, to be starring down at one’s body.

“Déjà vu all over again,” Mara had to smirk.

“This time, no deal,” a voice came from behind her.

“You again?” she turned around, knowing to shield her eyes from the white she was sure to see.

“So you remember?” Anakin Skywalker, still young, grinned as he approached her.

“Yes, I do,” Mara smiled. “Thank you by the way.”

“Hey, I didn’t do it for you,” he smirked, then turned grim. “I was expecting a dozen grandchildren.”

“Fine,” Mara crossed her arms, “you could have birthed them.”

Anakin laughed, “Ben is all that the Force could have hoped for, and Owen and Padme were more so. Together with their cousins they kept a horrible mistake from being made.”

“The Vong,” Mara said quietly.

“Much death was averted thanks to them all,” Anakin nodded, proudly.

“I don’t think I want to know,” Mara replied.

“You don’t.”

There was a bit of quiet between them before Mara said, “So why you? Where is Luke? I thought he’d meet me this time, if not my parents.”

“Luke is helping out Devin.”

“The ReeCee incident he went to investigate,” Mara breathed, she knew she had a bad feeling about it when her grandson told her about it.

“It’s not Devin’s time yet,” Anakin eased her worries, “but that doesn’t mean he won’t have a hard time if he doesn’t listen to Luke.”

“This is Devin we’re talking about.”

“I know,” Anakin grinned. “He has a lot of me in him, just like his father Owen.”

“That’s not entirely comforting you know,” Mara said dryly.

Anakin laughed, then looked back over at Mara’s body. “You got another two minutes.”

Mara sent out a gentle caress to her children and grandchildren, sadness was their returned caresses as they realized what was happening. She reassured them and slowly pulled back, knowing this wasn’t the last time she would see them.

“You want to wait till the end?” Anakin asked.

She looked down at her body, “Nah, seen it.”

“Good,” Anakin gently took her by the arm and led her towards the light. “There are two people anxious to see you.”

“Mom, dad.”
