Title: FAQ in the works
Description: Input needed

JayCee - June 20, 2005 08:30 PM (GMT)
I'm making a FAQ to help with some of the more reoccuring issues that come up on here now that we've been able to work some bugs out.

What I'd like for you guys to do is list the kind of questions you would like to see on it, either from personal experience of asking them, or seeing them be asked.

Thank you for your input to make this a smoother running place.

How about a fully functional Edit button? :p

JayCee - June 21, 2005 04:21 PM (GMT)
Fixed that, and Editing will be part of the FAQ.

Katana - June 22, 2005 11:51 AM (GMT)
Be sure to include the thing about how to make the new post indicators work right.

JayCee - June 22, 2005 02:01 PM (GMT)
What do you mean?

JaggedFel - June 22, 2005 04:26 PM (GMT)
You mean how you have to go the forum before going back to the index to make that damn inidicator go away?

JayCee - June 22, 2005 04:40 PM (GMT)
Ah yes, that thing... I don't understand it myself...

I'll see if I can find a way to turn it off like that.

JayCee - June 22, 2005 10:38 PM (GMT)
Note to self:

Include information about quoting and editing posts.

Flood control.

ErokDragun - June 23, 2005 02:13 AM (GMT)
yeah the flood control is a might bit touchy...maybe lower it down to ten seconds....I can read real fast

Katana - June 23, 2005 07:54 AM (GMT)
I didn't even now we had flood control. Stop talking so much!

Um, thats all I got.

JayCee - June 23, 2005 10:51 AM (GMT)
We do have flood control, it's to keep people from spamming by forcing them to wait thirty seconds before they can post again.

I'm still not sure if I want to get rid of it or just tell you guys to slow down.

I see the benefits and the problems with it, so I'm still thinking it over.

ErokDragun - June 23, 2005 02:01 PM (GMT)
I htink it is a good idea....but 30 seconds is a bit long....try fifteen...that is about how liong it takes me after answering one post, to go to the next unread bit and reply to it

JaggedFel - June 23, 2005 06:20 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I've been stopped by the flood control a few times. It does need to be turned down a bit

JayCee - June 23, 2005 06:24 PM (GMT)
But you see, that's the thing.. flood control is supposed to stop you. That's its job.

I'll turn it down for now to 15 seconds, just to see how it goes. If massive spamming occurs, then I'll turn it back up.

JaggedFel - June 23, 2005 06:39 PM (GMT)
That's just it though, I'm on dialup, I can't spam. After I check a thread, I go away, and then don't check it until I come online next time (now's an exception, because I happened to notice a newer post)

JayCee - June 23, 2005 09:32 PM (GMT)
Sorry Jag, but it doesn't seem to hurt you cause you're a Master.

Which reminds me... ranking systems on the FAQ as well.

And pinning.

ErokDragun - June 25, 2005 03:09 PM (GMT)
ok, Jaycee, this flood control thing is VERY ANNOYING!!!!!

I will read one thread and post.....go to another thread, in another fourm, read all those entries,a nd go to post, and get hit by the flood control...thats is just rididculous.....you need to turn it way down!!!

If someone starts spamming, then deal w/ them....dont make a broad rule to slow us all down....slowing me down just pisses me off, and I am not, never have been, and never will be a spammer, but I do read and type pretty damn fast.

Please address this

JayCee - June 25, 2005 09:39 PM (GMT)
Okay, getting all uppity with me does not help your case.

It's set at 15 seconds. That's a quarter of a minute.

If it's taking less then 15 seconds to go to another thread, read the posts, then open a reply window, type a reply, and hit enter, then I'm sorry.

No one else seems to have that big of an issue with it. Jag, you still having problems? Also, I've never been hit by it myself.

You have to realize that some people on here still have dial-up which is slower then us Cable/DSL/T1 connectioners and the flood control evens things out so that they don't get left behind simply because their pages don't load as fast.

Lastly, some of us aren't fast readers, and some of us like to put a lot of thought into what we are about to post. One again, slowing down the speed posters evens out the score.

Right now, 15 seconds is as it stands.

I may address this again at a later date, but we'll see.

ErokDragun - June 25, 2005 11:06 PM (GMT)
I was not uppity...I was letting you know how I felt.....and you have one thing wrong.....it stops me when I try to hit the post button...if it stopped me at the submit button, I owuld never have a problem, b/ cnot even I can read, reply, and type that fast. Maybe you shold see about changing it to the submit button instead of the add post button...that would definitly solve the problem

JayCee - June 25, 2005 11:13 PM (GMT)
Yes, you were uppity about how "it annoyed you", "pissed you off", etc. I especially dislikes the instance that I must do this. This forum does not revolve around you and your likes and dislikes.

I've already lowered it once. I'm not goint to run around changing every little thing just because you are "inconvenienced" by what, five seconds?

Anyway, like I said, it's never been a problem for me and I did not realize it stopped you at the "Add Reply" button. I'll see if there is an option to change that, but if not, I'm sorry.

ErokDragun - June 26, 2005 04:42 PM (GMT)
well if you dont want help w/ your site, then dont ask

JayCee - June 26, 2005 05:24 PM (GMT)
I asked for suggestions, opinions, etc, which are helpful, but I can't always impliment them. I did take heed to what you said and turned it down.

What I did not appreciate was then you practically demanding things from me simply because you felt a bit put-out about something and are not getting your way. You were on the verge of being spoiled child.

solicemoon - June 26, 2005 05:25 PM (GMT)
He said please

JayCee - June 26, 2005 05:33 PM (GMT)
He said please address this, and I did, by saying that I turned it down once already and it's staying like that, plus getting uppity with me isn't going to help his case.

Such things like :

you need to turn it way down!!!
with the demanding and overuse of the !!

and

slowing me down just pisses me off,
with the acting like a spoiled child...

I do not appreciate, even if a please is attached.

ErokDragun - June 27, 2005 12:09 AM (GMT)
I always use abunch of !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and sorry if it bothers you, but things slowing down my internet usage does piss me off.....hell it pisses you off as well, which is why I doubt you have dial-up even if it is cheaper.

and darlin, if you did htis to prevent spamming, and none of ous spam, then isnt it useless except as something to make your site less attractive....I understand the reasoning for implementing it, but have you had any problems w/ spammers at all??? if not, then why punish us for what someone may do????

notice all the?????

Katana - June 27, 2005 03:19 AM (GMT)
It is more of a preventative measure than something that is a restriction on you. Also some of us (especially those on dialup) have never seen the flood control thing. I think most people do not have an issue with it. Even if you hit it on occasion its not that big a deal to wait fifteen seconds between posts is it?

JayCee - June 27, 2005 08:28 AM (GMT)
I may have dial-up, but I have a crappy computer that is slow simply because I need a bigger memory cache and processor, so don't assume what ticks me off.

As Katana says, it's a preventative measure. I said that people could invite their friends here and who knows what may lay down the line.

You're the only person who seems to have a problem with this. I've turned it down once already.

Patience you must learn.

ErokDragun - June 27, 2005 01:46 PM (GMT)
alright mistress Yoda...

and if it just happened once and awhile it would not bother me, but it happens all the time.....guess I shuodl learn to read slower ;)

Katana - June 28, 2005 01:16 AM (GMT)
Get off the speed! :D
Sorry about it but as has been said you seem to be the only one with that issue. Try typing with one hand or turning your monitor upside down maybe.

JayCee - June 28, 2005 09:55 AM (GMT)
Typing with one hand huh?

I didn't know my NC fics were that good.... /brow.gif

Katana - June 28, 2005 05:14 PM (GMT)
Oh God!!! I did not need to read that, ever! Bad JayCee, bad. That was really horrible.

JayCee - June 28, 2005 05:27 PM (GMT)
Yeah... I know...

ErokDragun - June 29, 2005 01:34 PM (GMT)
NC is fun!!!!

and yes Jaycee, some of those fanfics are pretty stimulating...naughty grrl!!!

type one handed....dont i have enough typos as it is???

JayCee - June 29, 2005 10:14 PM (GMT)
Practice makes perfect.

solicemoon - July 14, 2005 03:32 AM (GMT)
What is this Mara Jade Fan Club? What is it? And do i want to join cause Mara Jade is damn awsome and one of my favorite SW characters. Could someone fill me in. And why is it protected?

JayCee - July 14, 2005 09:45 AM (GMT)
It's a Yahoo Group that I belong too that is mostly full of writers. We made the forum because we're working on a fic together and we wanted a private and easier to work with place to list ideas and stuff.

I'm not the head of the group, but I'll talk to her and see about letting others in, but it will be up to her. She's the boss, I am just providing the space.

bpult - October 30, 2005 05:09 AM (GMT)
what did she say

Katana - October 31, 2005 09:25 AM (GMT)
Look at the posts before that, it all makes sense.

bpult - November 2, 2005 06:13 AM (GMT)
she as in the head of the group

Katana - November 3, 2005 06:03 PM (GMT)
Oh, I misunderstood.
