Now after Trent Cotchin's made his debut for Richmond and played extremely well it's gotten many people thinking if Carlton made the right choice in picking up Kreuzer with the #1 pick. What makes Trent's form even more remarkable is that he missed most of the draft camp with an ankle injury and missed his first pre-season with an achilles injury which sidelined him up until the middle of the year.
As most of you know ruckman take much longer than any other position to develop, as it is much harder to get such big bodies for the rigourous tests of the AFL. For example Dean Cox was never in the spotlight as a great ruckman until he was 22, spending 4 years in the system. Matthew Kreuzer has been thrown right into the thick of it this year, playing against some of the best ruckmen in the league and managing to hold his own on most occassions. He also is able to play at CHF giving the Blues another option outside of Fevola to deliver the ball into. In the game against Port he was unbelievable, kicking 3 goals in the final quarter to send the Blues on the way to their amazing come from behind win. What also makes Matthew great is his ability around the ground, picking up contested possessions and giving the side an extra body in the contest. If he's able to do this at such a young age while still developing then he will be a great player indeed.Trent Cotchin was a standout #2 pick behind Matthew Kreuzer with his sleeky skills and abilities causing fans everywhere to stand up and take notice. His ability in the contest was second to none in this draft and Richmond were without a doubt absolutely stoked with their pick up. Unfortunately for Trent in the Northern Knights preliminary final against the Calder Cannons (the eventual champions) which they lost, Trent broke his ankle, effectively ruling him out of the draft camp. This seemed to do no harm to him though, still getting picked at #2 by Richmond. A further set-back for Trent caused him to miss out on his first pre-season, which obviously would have come as a huge disappointment to him. He was placed on the long-term injury list and was said to be back around the middle of the season. So after working hard and proving his fitness to the coaching and medical staff Trent finally got his debut against Port Adelaide. What a debut it was, with his first kick of AFL footy resulting in a goal, a sign of things to come for this young gun. His sleeky skills and delivery into the forward 50 were remarkable, confirming to Richmond fans, staff and players that they'd picked up a superstar. Both players are going to be fantastic players, no doubt about it....but who will be better? -------------------- ![]() Sig By Dr. Pepper |
