New recruits Ney Fabiano and Michael Thwaite will make their first appearances for Melbourne Victory in a trial match against Victorian Premier League side the Green Gully Cavaliers at Green Gully Reserve on Monday (kick off 7pm).

Entry to the match is free and Victory memberships for the Hyundai A-League 2008/09 season will be available for purchase.

“Ney Fabiano and Michael Thwaite will start the game,” Victory Assistant Coach Aaron Healey said.

“It will be a great opportunity for them to develop an understanding of the way we play and we’re looking forward to seeing them in action.

“Ney Fabiano’s come across from Thailand and is a highly credentialed player, so it’s a good opportunity for him and Danny and the other strikers around them to work together and develop a relationship with each other.”

Healey, who will oversee Monday’s proceedings in the absence of Coach Ernie Merrick, said the team is eager to play its first match after commencing its preparations for its fourth Hyundai A-League campaign last week.

“The players were absolutely fantastic last week,” Healey added.

“They worked really hard and the enthusiasm and the motivation amongst the group has been superb.

“We had eight sessions in five days and every session was high intensity.

“They’ve had a couple of days off over the weekend to reintroduce themselves to their families and now we’re back on Monday for our match against Green Gully.

“Having four weeks off, they’re obviously not 100 per cent fit, so we’ll train on Monday morning and we know we’ll be going out there fatigued, but we’ll still put on a performance for the spectators that come and watch us.”

With Victory's 2008 Pre-Season Cup schedule taking it to Launceston, Perth and Port Macquarie, the match will also provide a rare opportunity for fans to see the team in action before its first Hyundai A-League home fixture in Round 3 against the Newcastle Jets on August 29.

“There’s only one Victorian Premier League game and no AFL games in Melbourne this weekend, so Monday’s a good chance for people to get out and get their fix of sport for the week.”

Victory memberships for the Hyundai A-League 2008/09 season are currently available from the Victory Shop, 236 Swan Street, Richmond, by calling 1300 GO MVFC or online by clicking here.
