Is it unusual for people to hear voices? I thought that they were just my different personalities trying to all express themselves, but then I read this:

"Only one Criterion A symptom is required if delusions are bizarre or hallucinations consist of a voice keeping up a running commentary on the person's behavior or thoughts, or two or more voices conversing with each other."

So the voices I hear talk with eachother, comment on what I'm thinking/doing and tell me what to do (I don't always do what they tell me to, just when it makes sense).

Soooo.... is hearing the voices normal?

Is it a voice you recognise by any chance? Sometimes psychologists won't call hearing the voice of someone you saw as an authority figure as totally unusual. (and with girl's it's a lot worse)

Criterion A usually includes things like delusions (strange beliefs), hallucinations (sensory "falsities") and catatonic behaviour. If a person displays all of these, he/she would be taken for further observation and tests.

Do you have these? And, also, how long have you heard the voices?

My suggestion would be to go to your doctor, tell him/her. Then see what happens. Good luck.

Hey, not much in the way of advice..

but I once told my audiologist that my dad shouted at me in my head. I thought it was my tinnitus. But.. apparently not. Shocked my mum and my audiologist at the time..

*hugs*

it isn't that well known but hearing voices is really common. lots of famous people do. and the only reason to go to a doctor about it is if its causing you actuall problems. but from what you have said it doesent sound like it, if you dont always do what they say. if they upset you or you cant cope with them then yes seek help. but if you look on the internet you'll find lots of people live quite happily with them and they dont bother tham at all.

hope this helps.

Well, one of the voices is male and the other is female, and I don't think that I've ever heard them outside of my mind( as an actual person). I've been hearing the voices for as long as I can remember (my first real memory of them is when I was five or six, the male one was mad that I hadn't done what my mom had said).

I'm probably just fretting over nothing. But I'm just gonna go with what Crissy said about the famous people hearing them. And perhaps they will all help me on my way to stardom. (neh, yeah right)

thankyou's for everyone.

Like the others said, when they aren't ordering you around, forbidding you things and other negative shit, you've got nothing to be concerned about.
Since I was 8 or so, I've been hearing voices, too. And one voice, it's a man, is very helpful, because he tells me whether I'm wasting my energy or should go for things. He's always right, I learn that thru experience.
I call 'um : Spiritual guides or helpers.

However, if voices have the habit of criticizing or giving you commands and so on, there is something you can do about it yourself.
Light 3 sticks of pine, lavender or Rosemary incense, write "voices" down on a small note and keep it in your hand.
Close your eyes and visualize them going away and you not hearing them anymore.
Do this every day until they're gone.
There also are other ways to deal with negative voices, so if you need more info or other ways, feel free to PM me or post.

Lotsa love, Joe

The male's negitive, but the female's positive. They don't bother me so much anymore. The female can actually be kinda helpful at times.

I'll try what Joe suggested. Thank you, Joe, it seems as though it just might work.

...Maybe if I ignore them long enough, they'll just go away.
or perhaps I should talk about them more. They go away for a few days whenever I talk about them. ((they must be self concious smile.gif ))
