OMG my essay of doom

Used following elements: Characters, setting, subjects, figurative language, and hero's journey.

Characters
• Circe- I used that picture because in the story, she gives me the impression that she is rather crafty, hence why she is the goddess of magic. The reason I choose that photo is because she had a rather crafty look on her face. Ad well, it came up on Google with I typed in Circe.
• Odysseus- I used the photo I did because it portrayed to me what Odysseus would have looked like. Also, the statue is of what the artist thought Odysseus looked like.
• Poseidon- I choose the picture for Poseidon because the picture has a rather angry look on his face, like a angry ocean. Also, the artist thought of this as the god of the sea and horses himself.
• Penelope- I choose the photo of her because the plaster disk woman looks queen-like and cold.
• Telemachus – I choose this photo because the man in the picture seemed like a Telemachus to me. Just the princely aura about it gives me that feeling.
• Odysseus's dog- I choose this photo because as I read about his dog, I got the image of a starving, almost dead dog.
• Polyphemus- I choose this photo because it is of a cyclopes through rocks at a ship, which is what happened in the story.
• Charybdis- I choose this picture because to me, Homer gives me the image of a giant whirlpool, which was in the cartoon.
• Scylla- I choose this because a three-headed dog came to mind when I read about her.

Setting
I used the foam pieces for this part and I put up signs to show what the places were named. Just for a hint, the land green on the 3D map.

Subjects

I used few of these because it was a rather hard thing to do.

• I put the drunk person on the Cicones because it shows one of the hidden themes. 'Drinking is not always pleasurable. Do not have too much pride.'
• I put a ship on the ocean because it seemed to be at the ship is a theme in the story, 'A ship brings you place to place. It can even become your savior' Which it did with Odysseus many times.
• The Trojan horse- this is one of the smartest things I have seen. The Greeks leave this giant wooden horse at the gates of Troy and leave one man behind. The man tells them that they have given up and they see that all the ships are gone and their camps are gone. They put the horse in their city, as a sort of a token of their 'victory'. However, at night, the Greeks came out of the horse and destroyed the city. It shows this as a theme: 'Do not trust anyone or anything. Be witty and smart.'
Figurative language
• I used dice because of this simile: “...are you wandering rogues, who casts your lives like dice and ravage other folk like sea?” Hands rolling dice came to mind here.
• I used a goddess-like woman in a throne because of this metaphor, “Dawn mounted her throne...” I used a goddess in a throne because that is what came to mind.
• I used a bronze sword because of this quote, which is a onomatopoeia, “The bright broadsword clanged down” The image of a falling sword came to mind.
• I used the puppies because of this alliteration and simile, “he clutched at my companions and caught two in his hands like squirming puppies.” Just two puppies came to mind as I read that.
• The metaphor, “Death sat there huge: how could we slip away?” made me think of a death row chair, so that is why I put it there.
Hero's Journey

• Troy:
Used Trojan horse because it shows part of the reason why Odysseus was gone for so long and that it shows Odysseus's brilliance.
• Cicones:
I used a drunk person there to show their idioticy in drinking and letting their guard down. I also used a man trying to bash an axe into another man's head to show the Cicones attack on Odysseus's crew.
• Land of the Cyclopes
I took a picture of Olive garden to symbolize the olive branch that Odysseus used to stab the Cyclopes' only eye.
I took a picture of a stuff animal sheep to show the rams that Odysseus used to smuggle his men out of the Cyclopes' cave.
• Land of the Lotus Eaters
I used a lotus flower to show how harmless the lotus looked like, but we know that it made the men that ate it forget about home.
• Land of the Dead
I used a picture of what looks like Hades gate to show how close they got to the underworld itself.
I used a picture of what seems like a specter ((omg CAVE word)) to show one of the men that Odysseus lost, who came to him to tell him things about his journey.
• Siren
Of course, I put a picture of a siren that was drowning a sailor to show what might have happened to Odysseus's men or even Odysseus himself if he did no know what would happen if he didn't tell his men.
• Circe's Island
I showed a picture of a pig to show when Circe turned Odysseus's men into swine.
• Land of the Sun
I showed a cow to show Helios' cattle that Odysseus's men killed.
I also showed a tattoo of a sun to show that the sun never sets there.
• Scylla and Charybdis
Charybdis- I choose this picture because to me, Homer gives me the image of a giant whirlpool, which was in the cartoon.
Scylla- I choose this because a three-headed dog came to mind when I read about her.
• Ithaca
I showed a king-like bow and arrow to show when Odysseus shot Antious in the neck with a arrow.
I also showed a iron heart to show what Odysseus said about Penelope's heart.

• Aeolia
I used a picture of a gas station because of the bag that Aeolis gave to Odysseus.
I used a windmill to show that powerful wind that came from that bag.

I'm learning that I have no right to live
I'm stealing away minds
hope
and happiness.
I'm filth, trash that doesn't belong in this green meadow.
Someone to put a spike through me now...
No pill can make me beautiful
No pill can make me happy
No pill can save me from myself.
And well....I guess I don't want to be saved.

Alive again. How good it felt, really. Feeling the wind on his naked body, his hair dancing and gracing his skin, and the soil underneath his uncovered feet. It was...Heaven. Wait, no. Not Heaven. There was no Heaven for him. The sadist mercenary grinned as his eyes gazed upon the clouds. Bodies surrounded him, blood covering the pale skin that covered his resurrected bones. It felt good to be able to see the world again. Not like that fiery place he had been sent. But oh well. He has finally fought Inu Yasha. But damn that Renkotsu. Still though, he had his fun while it lasted.

The homosexual man laughed, gripped Jakotsutō tightly before turning around and carefully walked through the pool of blood and bodies, laugh still. He mad a face as more blood covered his flawless skin and he cursed slightly, shaking his head again. Ew,ugly people blood. Soon, he had stolen some clothes and placed them on himself, watching the darkening sky. It has been so long since he has last been physical. Since he had last tasted the fear of others. It felt...pleasurable. He dusted the dirt from his arms, looking at the heaven-like sky, the earth both in night and day. Somewhere between time. How...interesting.

The human smirked and carried his way down the dirt path. Where exactly was he? He remembered Mount Hakurai, just that was about it. He had died there, yet was resurrected else where, possibly faraway from that cursed mountain. He growled slightly and he shook his head. Had anyone else been brought back to life, or what he the only one? And if so, why him? And how? He wasn't much of a thinker, but this disturbed him. Was it Naraku? He highly doubted it. Besides, the half demon had killed them, if you think about it. Jakotsu sighed and muttered slightly, " Where is my Inu Yasha? And My Kouga? I want to play." The mercenary pouted and sighed, continuing to walk. He was sure he would see them soon. After all,the slaughtering of villages would bring his 'lover's' attention.

“In This Fateful Hour”

I am not exactly the most popular person in a school, this school; which looks very much like a jail. Locked in this box of darkness, I am a subject to the bullying, the idioticy of several of the other thousand of students, and the harshness that threatens me constantly. Honestly, I can careless. Half of the school population is boarish or even as stupid as a, pardon my language, but a jackass in a sense of a donkey. I am treated unfairly because I do not wear the right clothes, talk the same way as most people, and because of the special label the 'special education' program has given me: emotionally disturbed. I am no where near disturbed. Just...myself.
An fine example is when I walk in a classroom: late, confused, possibly carrying my books and bags. The teacher normally looks and takes note that I am obviously late for whatever excuse I have, weather it be because the bus broke down, a teacher held me up, the bathroom, or even the library. Then, the class looks up and some snicker. Is my hair messed up? Something in my teeth? Do I smell funny? Surely, it must be something.
Walking to my assigned seat is often trouble. People trip others. That is a basic school fact. It can be with either shoe or binder, it is still tripping. As my hands touch the unwashed, soiled carpet of this near-40s school, a hint of laughter comes from the shadows of the class. Voice giggling, they ringing in my ears and my soul. Crimson-faced, I stand in a shaking manner and I slowly walk to my seat and sit down in the well worn plastic seat. I heard another giggle, and I endure this for the rest of the 40 minutes of my personal Hell.

Another fine example of this is in the bathroom. I, myself, am a girl. Oh, yes, so surprising. My breasts do not give it away? From the back, I look like a guy. I'm not built like one, no, just my haircut. Kudos to the Asian lady that cut it. I can walk in there, needing to get rid to the well held waste from my body, and the girls would just stand there, stare, and go on talking. Sure, it seems harmless. But they whisper. And I'm not stupid. The bathroom echoes. A few stand in front of the stalls and giggle. Normally, I would take a pencil out of my bag and gore out their eyes and tongues with it, but it only goes well in my mind. Such actions like that would cause me to end up in jail. Possibly a mental hospital, drugged up on happy pills. Maybe a mix of the two. In physical terms, however, I just say for them to move and they move, causing me to rush in and slam the door. Then I hear the giggles. You know how annoying these girls can be. Sure, it was all funny in middle school. However, who is stupid enough to giggle and talk about a person who is in the stall? Obviously, they are.

Clothes are another thing. I refuse to wear anything with a freakin eagle on it, or the words 'Hollester' burned into everyone's eyes that look at the front of your shirt. I refuse to wear what the proper term would be: a thong. I prefer to call them what the name should be: slut pants. However, I say no to grannie panties. Guys stare at me with my SpitFire Girl. Girls stare at my lack of jewelry and make up. I have hippie necklaces to gothic crosses. However, is there something wrong with that? According to the student body, yes. Giggling. Rumors. Bullying. Those are only a few things I go through.

According to the special education program, I have an emotional disturbance. That has forever labeled me in their books as 'oh-she-needs-someone-to-stalk-her-every-move'. To every school I have gone to, there has always been a point sheet. A behavior sheet, A mentor. Someone to go to if I get 'angry' or 'frustrated'. Oddly, the student body has gone into my file and has found this out. The hints of 'bipolar' come to my ears so often, I should just get the words 'I'm Bipolar' tattooed to my forehead.

I have always thought that in high school, things would change. People would become more mature. Wiser, possibly. However, that was not my case. I have learned that people don't change in one year. Maybe a smack to the face will do them good. The prejudice that lies within schools all over the world is something that should not exist. Yet, we as human beings do not like change. I am not the only one. And I do not think I will always be.

In the late 1100s to the middle of the 1500s in Japan and sixth century to the 1300s in Western Europe, three things are looked upon on being similar or completely different: the role of religion, the weaponry, and the concept of chivalry and Bushido and the way it connects with feudalism.

The weapons and armor in Japan were superior, and somewhat similar to the knight's armor in Europe at that time. The armor in both regions covered their bodies, though, the Japanese samurai armor weighed much less. The knight's armor weight tons more and made it so that the knights couldn't move as easily as the samurai could have. They both, however, used swords, but the Japanese sword, the katana, was much lighter and much more deadly. This difference might be because the Japanese were ahead in many things during that time, including weaponry and the arts.

Both regions did have a 'code of honor' that their warriors followed: the Code of Bushido and Chivalry. Although the codes were primarily similar, there were key differences. Chivalry called for women of the upper class to be treated as objects of beauty and purity, but nothing more. This belief put these women upon pedestals, but removed them from productive society and turned them into objects, not people. Bushido, however, have women respect, although they were not always placed equal to men.
Also, not all knights practiced chivalry, and almost samurai practiced it or they were seen with dishonor and often committed seppuku( ritual suicide). The way this ties the samurai and knights to feudalism is that they both had their own place in society. The samurai were below the daimyos, like the knights were below the minor lords. They were both used in war, and they were also used as some sort of a police figure. The similarity in this structure might have been because this structure worked until in Europe when the Black Plague arrived.

During Europe’s feudal period, the Catholic Church had an insane amount of power. Its beliefs and declarations affected every aspect of European society for every social class. Kings bowed down and submitted before popes, or they would be excommunicated. They became nothing more than puppets for the Catholic Church’s power and were used to further its control.(Although there was some exceptions) State and religion became so intertwined during this period that they were practically corresponding. The influence of the Church caused the animosity and persecution of those of different religions. In post classical Japan, state and religion were kept mostly separate. Buddhism came to Japan years before feudalism came into practice. It was the country’s official religion throughout feudal Japan, but religious leaders did not try to control politics or society. This non-interference allowed the Shogun and Daimyos to rule successfully with only the best interest of their territory in mind. In short, Buddhism did not have ultimate control like the Catholic Church did during that time. This might be because Buddhism did not stress converting or stress complete control on the government.

In short, Japan was more advanced then Western Europe during this time period. In many forms, they were similar like with their social classes, but different like in the way their religions controlled their lives.
