Politics in Mathonwy developed for some decades post Shrivening along a rather dark and bloody path. Within the past century the city has witnessed such a variety of governance that today it cannot be imagined that the city has not experienced every regime under any sun. It has finally settled into a more or less democratic system where three elected Tribunes serve for three years at City Hall. Two of the Tribues are elected by the citizens of Mathonwy and one elected by the remaining noblility that managed to survive the excessive violence post Shrivening. As such, it is quietly spoken of the third Tribune holding a seat for life for the most pre-eminant noble family within Mathonwy remains the Scawens. That they have survived the ages as a lineage is testament some would say to either compact or covenant with some eldrich beings.
